  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) He might also strike out 4 times more. But if he hits twice as many home runs and draws twice as many walks, I can care less. Let's see how Flowers offensive and defensive performance hold up after he gets banged up and worn down from catching every day. That's what a lot of people don't seem to appreciate about AJ's game.
  2. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) Hahn quote: "“Jeff adds a valuable & different type of offensive player to our lineup, combined w/ his ability to play quality defense at multiple positions as well as his overall approach to the game,"” Ugh. This coming from the guy who, about Rob Mackowiak, was quoted as saying, "Everyone thought we got him as an insurance policy for Joe Crede at third base, but you know what? This guy can really play some center field.''
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) One thing I have never understood about sabermetrics is how little strikeouts mean offensively, yet the value they have for pitchers. That's a good point.
  4. I wouldn't be so quick to trade Beckham unless some team was willing to overpay for him. The Sox need a good utility infielder and I think Beckham would be one of the best. He could play 2B, 3b and SS and who knows, if someone gets hurt he still has a chance to play himself back into a starting role.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws Congrats to AJ! Hope he's back with the Sox for a few more years.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) With the season AJ just had, he could easily make $8-10 million on the open market on a short deal if someone is willing to take on that character risk. I don't think the Sox really want to spend that much on a catcher at this point in time. There is no "character risk" with AJ. Anyway, he'll probably gladly re-sign with the Sox if they make him a decent offer for multiple years - and they should.
  7. I wonder how Flowers' defense will fare after he gets banged up catching everyday the way AJ does. Also wonder how much his offensive production would drop playing everyday. I'd keep AJ and let Flowers have more playing time backing him up.
  8. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) F*** Ozzie! And the horse he rode in on!
  9. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) So basically, what I said all season. He continued to play hurt instead of getting it taken care of early and possibly coming back to actually help the team in Septemeber he chose to "play through it" and shug his shoulders every time he swung the bat. How do we know he was playing hurt? He said it wasn't a problem since June. He's had this bone fragment in his wrist for a few years and it only bothered him when it got lodged in the joint restricting movement. When they flushed it to a different spot he was OK. He was planning on having this surgery since June to prevent the fragment from moving back into the joint in the future. If being hurt was the reason for his poor numbers the last part of the season it may have had more to do with his back or his concussion than his wrist. But it's also a possibility that he just had a bad streak. he's been known to have them before throughout his career. He's not getting any younger either.
  10. Acquire a good second baseman. Keep Gordon as the utility guy. If he plays himself back into a starting job, great. If not, he'd be one of the best utility infielders the Sox ever had.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) 1st choice, Hawk and Paciorek back together. DJ and Farmer have really gotten old the last couple of years, having had to listen to more games than being able to watch them due to slow internet overseas. And please get rid of Rongey while you're at it. And Brooks Boyer. They need someone with a fresh perspective and some imagination to totally start over from scratch on the marketing and promotions side. I'd like to try Stone and Paciorek on TV. Farmer sucks on radio. Agree on needing a new direction on marketing and promotions.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) #obamacurse @AustinCollins94: So since Obama said that he wants a ChiSox/Wash World Series, the sox have gone 1-5. #Tigerschat Is there nothing he doesn't screw up?
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) Hawk brings far more fans to the White Sox than he pushes away. Anyone heard of Harry Caray? Similar appeal. Hawk couldn't carry Harry's Meister Brau. When he was in his prime, as he was his entire time with the Sox, Harry Caray was one of the best baseball announcers ever.
  14. It would help not having a .208 hitter batting third. The Sox need to somehow acquire a .300/30HR/100+RBI guy to hit third, or their offense will still suck.
  15. Stone did a good job on the play by play again last night. It was refreshing not hearing Hawk drone on about the worst five words for a batter to hear and how the more pitches you see, yadda yadda yadda. If Hawk stays and Stone leaves it's just another example of what a s***ty organization this is. And they wonder why their fanbase is shrinking.
  16. After the Sox beat Detroit in the Monday afternoon makeup game the division title was their's to lose ... and they did.
  17. Just another typical Chokago sports team. Chokin' chokers who choke.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 18, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Either has to be an injury or some kind of family emergency. Maybe he was traded.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) Did you ever deal with the crazy 88s in your travels? I think Black Mamba got to them before Caulfield got there.
  20. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 15, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) So who closes if not reed? Myers.
  21. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) Ill take a boring W any day of the week. SALE!!! YOUK!!! TANK!!! MYERS!!!
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Farmer's theory is that the colder September weather is bringing him back to life after the heat of July/August. Ventura or Sale???
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) The kid gets an extended rest and you improve your chances in the last full swing game against the Tigers??! I think it's a good idea.
