I remember he had a bone chip or fragment that would get lodged in his wrist. He had it flushed a few years ago, if I remember correctly. Also, I remember he had issues with a sore thumb on and off through the years. Let's hope he'll be fine in a day or two.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) This is a good excuse to DL him and get a brief look at Jordan Danks, no? No. But it was a great reason to discover that Escobar can play pretty well in the outfield. So when Morel comes back, Kosuke may be the odd man out.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) I think that is because it is usually reactionary...I think the umpires in the series may have been briefed to take caution because of the events that took place in Boston between the Rays and the Red Sawks...then you get an increased awareness and a sensitivity that might not normally exist during normal conditions... So then the umps should have had increased awareness and sensitivity to the Rays hitting De Aza in one of the previous games, then Beckham, then AJ in the finale. Instead, they seemed to only have increased sensitivity to Quintana throwing behind but entirely missing Zobrist on a pitch below the waist. And after all this, De Aza got hit in the knee at 2B. The umps were clearly wrong in their handling of all this. EDIT: Can someone refresh my memory -- Did AJ spike Zobrist at 2B before or after De Aza got plunked by a Rays pitcher? I can't remember exactly the order of events but could AJ's dirty slide been in retaliation for their guy hitting De Aza? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Hawk can talk all he wants. All I have to do is look at the results on the field over the last few years. Look at guys like Nick Swisher who were great before they got here, absolutely f***ing sucked while here, and then were great again when they left. Adam Dunn who was the most consistent player in all of baseball for a freaking decade, has the worst season in the history of baseball, and then is back to himself again. Alex Rios did the same thing. All guys that Guillen hated and b****ed about. I agree with you 100%. I just thought it was funny coming from Hawk who was one of Ozzie's biggest supporters/apologists when he was here. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) And more of a selfish manager destroying the GMs biggest acquisitions. Hawk made a point today of telling how Dunn said at the end of spring training that he's never had so much fun and according to Hawk it was because of Ventura and the attitude he brings that wasn't here the past few years. -
Congratulations Mr. 400!!!

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) Probably not the right thread for this, but did anyone catch Sveum's postgame conference yesterday? He said something to the effect of "We were getting it together for a week, and then this last week...we haven't won a game...and then we get swept by the White Sox at home...I mean how much lower can it get than that?" I found that to be mildly offensive, honestly. I caught that too. -

Does Hudson have the arm to play major league 3B or does he have a second-baseman's arm? -

To paraphrase Jackie Gleason, "How sweep it is!" I'm a happy camper today. -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) I would assume if it becomes official today or tomorrow, he'll join the club Tuesday. So they'll be playing two short (Paulie, Morel) for the next two days. I don't like it. -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) With the Orlando Hudson signing, I guess we know why they didn't call up Johnson now. Morel is heading out. When is Hudson going to be available to play with the Sox? -
QUOTE (That funky motion @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Can he play 3rd? I hope so. Up until Thursday I would have been happy with this move but Gordon Beckham won back my heart the way he stepped up and played yesterday. But I guess Hudson would be good to have in reserve if Beckham reverts back to the way he has been for about the past year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Some people here were hoping that he'd do the same thing he did when he first came to the Dodgers, come out motivated for several weeks and really make a difference. I know that's exactly what I was hoping for.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) If Morel may go on the DL, then he should be on the DL. With Paulie out until at least Tuesday, they can't afford to keep a guy with a bad back on the bench. If he can't play, DL him and bring up an able body. It's not like he's been tearing it up, anyway. -
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 19, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) I'm cynical like thinking Josh Hamilton's great year is the result of him finding a better coke guy, with the Peruvian s***. That's only slightly tasteless.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 19, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) I doubt he was trying to hit him in the face. It very well could have been a purpose pitch. s*** happens. Problem is any further retaliation we take now will immediately draw a warning. I'd wait til the late innings next time Nate Jones is pitching and drill Castro right in the ribs. I agree with all of this. He probably wanted to knock him down. Still, he's responsible for what happened to Paulie.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 19, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) Jake I know you played the game and want to think of it as pure. As adamant as Greg is about it you seem overly adamant about defending Samardzija . All kinds of pitches are used to hit guys on purpose. That way you can say "if I wanted to hit the guy I'd have used a fastball." The intent is not to hurt the batter but to send a message. Mike Huff played the game and he said on the radio this morning that he has no doubt that Samardzija hit him on purpose and said the splitter was used because it is a less lethal way to achieve the desired result.

Sox @ Cubs 5/19 game thread

Sox' worst pitcher going up against Cubs' best. No Paulie. Should be a close one. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) I believe its KW's job to put a team together that makes the playoffs. If he has bad coaches or a bad manager, that's his responsibility. Not with JR running the team.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Actually, I checked the box score, it wasn't the next time Heyward came up. He hit a homer in the 2nd, grounded out on 4 pitches in the 4th, then got hit with the first pitch in the 7th. No idea what type of pitch it was or how it looked. Fastball. Hit him in the back. -
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
South Side Fireworks Man replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
f*** the Cubs. Bush league stopping the game for five minutes to celebrate the mediocre career of Wood. Konerko with the big home run, then takes one off the eye. Hope he'll be back very soon. Great job by Reed. But my hat goes off today to Gordon Beckham. Not just for the game winning home run but the way he played the whole game, especially the play at 2B. Let's sweep these bastards! -

QUOTE (59th street @ May 18, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Robin with the best post game "poker face" answer ever. cub apologist p. rogers wanted to know if Humber intended to retaliate and throw at la hair; Robin said NO and stared him down for about 20 seconds. It was fantastic! And that's how to handle it. Ozzie never learned how to handle these situations.
