Too bad they wasted his being "locked in" for months in Charlotte. Now that he's in a funk due to the thumb injury they'll probably be bringing him up soon.

Sox vs Damned Yankees 8-2 game thread
South Side Fireworks Man replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) At this point, Rios and Dunn have to start playing well for this team to win at all. You might as well keep throwing them out there and hope they actually play like normal. The scrubs aren't going to win the division. De Aza can outperform Rios and Viciedo can outperform Dunn. -
If Ozzie gives that order, whomever the Sox pitcher is should lob a lollipop at Teahen. When asked about it after the game he should say, "I had to follow my manager's orders, but my heart wasn't in it."
-
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) He doesn't have to be the savior, he only has to perform better than the guy he'd be replacing -- who is hitting around .160. Not a difficult task. Many people (I believe including Rongey) have said that if only Rios and Dunn were having merely bad years instead of the absolutely horrid years they've been having, the Sox would be right near the top of this division. Well I'm sure De Aza can produce a "bad" Rios year and Viciedo can produce a "bad" Dunn year and I'm absolutely certain they can by far outproduce what those two have been doing this year. The answer is so simple yet the Sox refuse to make a change to give the team a shot to win.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) The most shocking thing to me last offseason was how vocal so many Sox players were about how distracting the Ozzie/KW soap opera was. Yet, some people still think Ozzie's antics are "fun" and better than having an "uptight" manager. Oney's just attempting help his father's team by trying to take pressure off of the players. It's a trademark of the Guillen genius!
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Ahhh. I was wondering what the hell Oney was tweeting about last night. Two or three times he posted something to this effect: "If I ever get married I hope my wife isn't someone that is completely busted/ugly/a dog." Just paraphrasing what he said, and it was completely random and had no context at the time. Makes sense now. What an immature little punk/jagoff.
-
I doubt if many of the players have any respect for the Guillen family anymore. That's probably much of the problem with this team. Nice organization you're running, JR. If you had any repect for the image of the White Sox or the Sox' fan base, you would have allowed KW to fire Ozzie long ago. Instead we have to be embarassed by Guillen and his family on a regular basis.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) cool... http://twitter.com/#!/CSNChi_Beatnik/s...143508120080384 Ozzie--just f***ing leave please. What did Oney tweet about Teahen and his wife? If he tweeted something about Teahen's wife, he should get his mouth shut.

7/31 - Red Sox vs White Sox
South Side Fireworks Man replied to flavum's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Morel was having a good day at the plate and he hits RHP better than LHP anyway, so Ozzie pinch hits for him with Vizquel - ugh. Tyler Flowers' passed ball was the turning point of the game. Rios and Dunn still suck. The most disappointing thing is the trade deadline passed and they still didn't open up a spot for Viciedo on the roster. This is a dead ass team and it looks like it's going to be a boring August and September. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 01:22 AM) Stupid, stupid tweet by Rosenthal. Yeah, everyone in baseball knows about the issues with Peavy and Humber in the 5th/6th innings now. But he had to get something helpful back for Jackson (before the deadline), more than just getting a measly Type B sandwich pick which JUST might impact our team 3-4 years from now, but probably never. You can't fault his aggressiveness here, just getting rid of Teahen alone might have been worth it financially. Thank you. The overreaction to that stupid tweet by some here and at WSI is ridiculous. -
I think it was Kenny's plan all along to get something for Jackson (Frasor, Stewart and ridding Teahen's contract), then try to obtain some young pitching prospects. The Q for Beachy rumor for example has been floating around for quite some time. Also the Thornton for starting pitcher rumors. It's just the way Rosenthal worded his tweet that makes it sound like KW just realized that trading Jackson thinned out his starting staff. That's ridiculous.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) I would of traded Quentin and Thornton by now. For whom? I sure wouldn't have traded Quentin for the package the Astos got for Pence and the Phillies would probably have given less for Quentin. But I agree, I'd trade Quentin and Thornton too if they can get good value for them. Let's see what KW does by tomorrow.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) Well how exactly do we get a pitcher that we can control for a few years without giving up something of value. Ithis is a sellers market right now. So you thought they should have held on to Jackson? (and Teahen too?)
-
Jackson was gone after this year. They shed his salary, got Teahen's contract off the books, picked up a good reliever and got a starting prospect. Now they're looking for a starting pitcher they can control for more than just the next few months. Makes sense to me.

Ubaldo Jimenez headed to Cleveland

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) This is the Trade Deadline of the overpay. Don't tell me we couldn't get a complete haul for Quentin, Crain, Frasor, Ohman, Thornton, Floyd, and Danks. Do you really think the Phillies overpaid for Hunter Pence? I thought it was a steal, and they would have paid even less for Quentin. -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) I'm very happy to hear the Sox got Rios. I just hope some of the stuff I've read about him not hustling and being afraid of walls is exaggerated or not true. I always liked him but I've only seen him when he played against the Sox. Anyway, we finally have a major league centerfielder for the first time since 2005. I guess the stuff I read about him wasn't exaggerated and was true. What a bum. -

Thornton to the Texas Rangers?
South Side Fireworks Man replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman #yankees indeed among teams to inquire about available matt thornton. #chsox, #tradedeadline Not exactly difficult to figure out why Kenny is dangling Thornton, aside from the contract, frightening start to the season and our good of lefty reliever depth Matt Thornton is a hot commodity on the trade market, get a few teams bidding against each other and we could get a very nice return. Especially when two of the teams are the Yankees and Red Sox. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Michael Young could play 3rd base for us. Danks, Thornton and Rios for Holland, Young and a pitching prospect? -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 04:46 AM) I can't even find a White Sox trade rumors forum on WSI let alone that post . Link ? They put their trade rumors and such in "What's The Score". The post I'm referring to is #137 in the "Braves Hot for Quentin" thread. I just posted about it here FWIW, not saying it's accurate or not.
-
Take this FWIW - A poster on WSI claims his "good friend" is at a wedding with Sergio Santos' agent and Sergio just texted him (his agent): Quentin to Braves, Thornton to Phillies.
