QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) I actually like this lineup, with Alexei in the 5-hole & AJ hitting 8th behind Rios. Now if only the 6 & 7 hitters would step the f*** up, this could actually be a dangerous offense! AJ's been hitting well of late while Dunn has been cold as ice. I'd like to see AJ and Dunn flip-flopped in the lineup. Dunn can move back up if/when he starts hitting. Just my humble opinion.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 06:58 AM) Much ado about nothing. Much ado about nothing, indeed. And only here at Soxtalk is anyone even accusing AJ of showing up Peavy. Nowhere else is that even being mentioned or speculated about as being the possible cause of the little argument. And neither AJ nor Peavy seem to have been as offended by whatever happened as some here were.

LOL at anyone who thinks AJ was trying to "show up" Peavy. Wow.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Yeah, everyone hates AJ. This is going to linger. Oh wait Like I said, boys will be boys," Peavy said. "We are going to say stuff to each other at times that may not sit well with the other. Talk through it and get it straight. Like I said, I love A.J. Pierzynski to death. He competes his rear end off and has for many years. He won a World Series here. I would like to do that again with him." Do the people thinking this is a huge deal ever have arguments with their wife or girlfriend or co-workers? Is any argument always the end of the relationship? Somehow I missed your post 'til just now. I guess that setles it - It's a non-issue. /thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) If Peavy didn't like the numbers AJ was throwing down, he always has the option to shake him off. It is his game. Yep.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) @CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Peavy & AJ ate together postgame and still couldn't get their "stories" straight. Peavy admitted utter frustration at how his start ended......so it's a safe bet that Peavy kept on his self-disgusted muttering, aimed some at A.J., and A.J. took exception. LOL! So apparently it had nothing to do with anybody "showing up" anyone else!

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:21 PM) First of all, everyone is ASSUMING that Peavy was upset at AJ supposedly showing him up. No one knows that for sure. Second, AJ pulled Peavy into the clubhouse hallway to discuss things out of the view of the camera. That's a great move. I was just surfing around and it seems the only place this is being made an issue is here. Others are saying Jake was upset with some of AJ's pitch calls and that AJ handled it well by taking Jake into the clubhouse to discuss it. And both are joking about it when being asked about what happened by reporters.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Also, AJ doesn't need to show the guy up to get him out of the game. It was obvious to everyone that he ran out of steam. He was coming out regardless. It was obvious to many, especially AJ, that he ran out of steam a few batters before Ozzie finally pulled him.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) I guess we should all feel blessed this type of stuff has happened seemingly rarely with AJ while he's been with us. But I guess that's just how he is. The only reason it's happened recently is because AJ has witnessed the Sox blowing leads because Ozzie has been late in pulling guys who have nothing left. The first time AJ ever did anything like this was that A's game when Santos clearly had nothing and Ozzie left him in to blow the game. And remember the last time Peavy pitched, he hurt his groin and admitted afterward that he couldn't throw any pitches where he wanted them yet he said nothing about the injury until after he blew the game by giving up six runs. So tonight AJ witnessed Peavy losing his stuff and being hit around as the Cubs were coming back and Ozzie was leaving him in. I checked the game thread and several posters were calling for Ozzie to pull Peavy but it appeared Ozzie was going to leave him in one batter too long. Fortunately, he took him out in time. Does anyone really believe AJ was trying to "show up" Peavy? It's not like a player throwing up his hands after a teammate makes an error. AJ was just trying to let the manager/pitching coach know that Peavy had nothing left. If AJ was "showing up" anyone, it would be Ozzie. But Ozzie didn't seem to take offense, in fact with Jake's history of hiding injuries, Ozzie was probably appreciative of AJ's input. If anyone can tell if a pitcher has lost his stuff or not, it's the catcher.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Jake can go cry to his wife while he is cashing his $16 million paycheck. If anyone can see whether a pitcher is done, it's his catcher. I don't give a damned what peoples' opinions are of AJ...he is one of the few smart players on this team and one of the few players' whose desire to win I do not question.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Jesus even Hawk said he was done. The entire planet knew Peavy was coming out. You never know with Ozzie. AJ saw this movie once too many and probably just wanted to make sure.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) AJ just told CSN's Chuck Garfien that Peavy and him were arguing over who was better Chuck or Sara Kustok. There issue resolved. Sara Kustok hands down, IMHO.

AJ won the game with his triple and probably saved the game by letting Ozzie & Coop know that Peavy had nothing left. If they leave Peavy in, the Sox probably lose. Too bad they didn't listen to AJ in that Oakland game.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) So what happens if Vic isn't that stud immediately at the major league level? Do you blame Walker? I'm a little cautious when it comes to believing a player in AAA is the answer to their problems. The point is that the Sox are in desperate need of offense and about the only option the organization has is Viciedo yet they won't even give him a shot. If he fails he fails but at least find out. He can't produce any less than what Pierre, Rios, Dunn, Beckham, etc. have been producing. Besides, Pierre has no future with the organization yet he is blocking Viciedo? -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) It's fairly obvious that he doesn't have the power to pull rank. That's why I'm sick of Reinsdorf's bulls*** too. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Viciedo went 2-4 again today. 12 game hitting streak. I'd guess he's hitting about .330 now. That's not good enough! I want my LF'er to have 1 HR, 9-20 SB's, 5 errors, .250 AVG, .320 OBP! YAY! Viciedo would be a major improvement over Pierre in the OF or even over Dunn at DH (DV can play RF with CQ going to DH). But our brilliant manager can't figure out a way to get him ABs so he wastes away in AAA.

Even if Lillibridge doesn't hit, he still outproduces Pierre simply on defense alone. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) I'm not convinced De Aza would make much of a difference, but Viciedo in LF/RF and having Hudson back and we'd be a lot more competitive. I think a Lillibridge/De Aza platoon in CF would have produced more than Rios has so far this season, and Viciedo would have vastly outperformed Pierre of course. But dealing with what they have now, I would replace Pierre on the roster with Viciedo, start CQ, Lillibridge, and Tank in the OF and use Rios as a fourth outfielder/late inning defensive replacement. If any of the OFers got injured or if Lillibridge became over-exposed, Rios can win back his starting position if he performs well enough as a role player. It just may be exactly what he needs. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) Baseball salaries are ridiculous. Alex Rios will be paid more this year than Carlton Fisk made his entire 24 year career. Rios would make a pretty good fourth outfielder. That's a pretty expensive fourth outfielder, but the cost is sunk anyway so might as well pay him for the role he is suited for. How much better would the Sox be this season if Viciedo and De Aza were on the 25 man roster in place of Pierre and Rios? -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) I still hold out hope for Beckham but I wish they could send him to AAA for the year and let him work some s*** out. Just to get him away from Walker.
