  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Yeah, I know but maybe this is that one player the team goes all in on. Konerko off the books helps. They could offer $10M+ per season possibly. Crawford is known to be the player Kenny covets more than anybody in MLB... What happens to Juan Pierre then?
  2. My biggest concern is not Jackson's salary but the fact that he is a Boras client. That almost guarantees that he will go to free agency and it's highly unlikely he'll be re-signed by the Sox. Maybe they can trade him this offseason but the facts just stated would certainly lower his trade value as well.
  3. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) I don't know what is sadder. That Viciedo is making Ozzie look stupid again, or Flowers already having 4 walks in 10 ABs to A.J.'s 15 walks in 472 at-bats. Flowers is batting .000. I wouldn't start trying to compare him with AJ just yet.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) We could stick Flowers at Catcher and probably get similar production to what AJ gave us this year. I wouldn't count on it. Flowers batted around .220 with a ton of Ks in AAA playing in a bandbox.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 11:33 PM) I love all his contributions, but I'll take no PK next year and some cash. I think we need a different leader in the clubhouse and it can't be Ozzie. We need someone who would order for a retaliation when one of our get hit. We need someone who won't take getting our asses handed to them. And we need someone who will b****slap someone for complimenting the Twins on how great they are. Unfortunately Carl Everett is washed up.
  6. They just showed the replay....Rios hit the ball off the inside part of his left knee. He was definitely in a world of pain.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) Where did he foul the ball off? Hopefully it's no freak fracture like Dye had. Either right on or just slightly above the left knee. EDIT: At least that's what I thought I saw. But keep in mind I'm the guy that thought Manny's DP ball to the 1Bman was a force out to the 2Bman. LOL!
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Anyone know if Rios got seriously injured? Had to leave a game mid-at bat, and Hawk was saying he's never seen someone foul a ball off like he did. Looked pretty bad. He was laying on the ground for quite a while and looked to be in extreme pain. He finally limped off the field with Ozzie and Herm. Hopefully just a real bad bruise but you never know.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) The ball was hit to the first baseman, who turned a 3-6 DP with the tag at 2nd. Manny would have been safe if he was running even 75% speed. Shows you how close I'm paying attention to this game, LOL! I was actually writing something on the computer and just glancing at the TV from time to time. I didn't realize that was a "hardway" DP requiring a tag at second. That being the case, I'll have to agree with you that it was pretty pathetic of Manny. I was all for the acquisition of Manny. I figured he'd hit like crazy for a month, get the Sox into the playoffs, go completely ballistic in the playoffs and help the Sox win a championship. But even if that's how it would have worked out, I would have advocated letting him go after the season. The trick with Manny is to for a team to dump him before he dumps the team. He wont be back next year anyway. And I still think it was worth the gamble picking him up.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Turned on Sox game to see one play, and it was a pathetic excuse for hustling by Manny. If Ozzie had any balls, he'd pull Manny. I really enjoyed Stone's quip of "at least Manny hustled". Maybe the players feel safe now that they know Ozzie is coming back so they think they don't have to hustle anymore. Anyway on Manny's play, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. The ball was hit right to the scond baseman with Manny being on first base. I thought Stone's comment was unecessary. At least Manny ripped a single.
  11. That Cubs job has gotten the best of many better managers than Ozzie. Ozzie would crash and burn within three years of taking that job. Anyway, Ozzie is still under contract to the Sox next year so he should keep his big stupid mouth shut. I really wish the Sox would fire his ass already. If I'm KW, immediately after this season ends I would call him in my office and remind him that he is under contract for next year and the team holds an option for 2012. I'd tell him we expect him to honor his contract for next year and then depending on how well he performs we will re-evaluate the situation after the season to decide wheteher or not we will bring him back for 2012 and beyond. Tell him there will be no extension considered until after the 2011 season. If he isn't happy with this he can resign and forfeit his salary but then he still cannot take another job in MLB until the 2011 season is over.
  12. Here's the Sox's lineup: Pierre lf A. Ramirez ss Rios cf Konerko 1b M. Ramirez dh Quentin rf Castro c Morel 3b Lillibridge 2b Danks p
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Well...worth thinking about...a manager and his former GM ripping each other in public is going to hurt their chances of finding a new job a lot more than a player and a GM ripping each other. Managers and GM's are supposed to keep their mouths shut and look out for their bosses and players. If you were a GM and you saw Ozzie get fired and then go off ripping KW to pieces...would you have any urge to hire that man yourself, so that he could air all of your dirty laundry in the future? Ozzie would wait until after he signed a contract with a new team and then he would start badmouthing KW. But who cares? Everyone knows Ozzie is a blowhard.
  14. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) I got this from a radio guy who comes in my business. He said, he ran into Ozzie's son at the East Bank Club. Ozzie's son said that if the Sox don't sign Oz to an longer deal, that Oz will call Jim Hendry personally, to try to manage the Cubs. Then Ozzie would be in breach of contract and could/should be sued. The jerk has another year on his contract and the Sox hold a second option year on him but he's talking like if he doesn't get an extension he is walking. Yeah, the Sox could let him out of his contract but it's up to them not Ozzie. And if out of respect for Ozzie the Sox do him a favor and let him out of his contactual obligations and he tries to get Hendry to sign him just to spite the Sox, he'd just be showing everyone what a jagoff he really is. But I doubt Hendry would have Ozzie near the top of his list anyway.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Kotsay's a good pinch hitter. Always has been. Too bad that hasn't been his primary role here.
  16. Kotsay just guaranteed himself a spot on whatever team Ozzie is managing next year.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) He's actually on record (The Club) saying he'd pay as much money as possible to land Pujols. Could that be considerd tampering? Anyway, it sure would turn the outlook of this team around in a hurry.
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) This might add a little fuel to the fire, Ozzie just posted a link to the Sun-Times article about him wanting an extension. The Sox are on an eight game losing streak and the jerk says he wants an extension. Talk about bad timing. Either Ozzie thinks he's entitled to the Sox manager job for life or he's intentionally trying to force the issue so they will let him quit and release him from his contract.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) Konerko who? You know, Paul Konerko - the Sox future DH and backup 1B to Albert Pujols - that Paul Konerko. Seriously, I never heard that Pujols said wherever Larussa goes he goes. And although I was never a big Tony Larussa fan, if that quote from Pujols is true I hope the Sox hire Larussa early next month.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Viciedo and Flowers better be playing against a LHP tomorrow. Viciedo anyway.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Based on our luck this year, it will be a detached bicep, or something weird like that. Actually, he grabbed his tricep, not his bicep. Stone said the initial report is "shoulder tightness."
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) There's a reason the Sox moved Viciedo off 3B this year. He may make an appearance occassionally over there, but he will never be considered a regular there. He's probably a DH although I have heard many with the White Sox think he will eventually be a LF or RF. I just hope he can hit like Carlos Lee. That's who I compare him to. El Caballo was a 3B at one time, doesn't take many walks, can hit it a mile and weight is always a concern. I wish/hope Viciedo could play RF. He has a cannon for an arm and if only he could be average at covering RF he would be a huge upgrade over what they have been putting in RF over the past couple of seasons. But since he's only been playing 3B/1B in the minors even though he doesn't look very good at those positions, maybe they see him as even more of a butcher in the OF--like Josh Fields/Pablo Ozuna/Adam Dunn bad out there. But if he could play an average RF, it would solve a lot of Sox problems going into next season. With young cheap players like Morel at 3B, Beckham at 2B and Viciedo in RF the Sox would have more money available to bring back Paulie and AJ. If Quentin can DH and get back to a semblance of his 2008 production, the Sox would be set up pretty well. And Ozzie can still have his rotating DH going with Viciedo backing up Paulie at 1B and Q going to RF when Paulie needs to DH.
