  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Lineup changes for #WhiteSox: Jones scratched with soreness in back; Vizquel to 3B, H8th; Viciedo to DH; Q to RF. New lineup: Pierre LF Ramirez SS Rios CF Konerko 1B Quentin RF Pierzynski C Viciedo DH Vizquel 3B Beckham 2B Absolutely love this lineup . That's the best possible Sox lineup than can be fielded on a regular basis IMHO. The only thing I might change is Viciedo 6th, Vizquel 7th and Pierzynski 8th, but I'll be happy if Ozzie keeps this lineup as the regular lineup for the rest of the season, platooning Viciedo with Teahen when Teahen comes back.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I just replayed it 3 times, Thornton definitely tweaked something in his arm or elbow that last pitch. What did he do?
  3. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Well, thanks to the fine work by Sales and Santos, we still have Thornton and Putz to go to in this game, which gives us an advantage over the O's in those extras. Let's hope we get to extras.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) I know we are all excited about the potential of Viciedo but I think he needs to go back to Charlotte and get more seasoning and help with his fielding. He has made some costly errors over at 3B Well if they're not going to use him primarily as the RH DH, then they should send him back to Charlotte when Teahen comes back. Then get a RH bat to platoon with Teahen at DH.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) kong's going to lead off with a dinger You are awesome!
  6. QUOTE (Ranger @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) Kotsay isn't going anywhere. I could be wrong, but my guess is Viciedo is back to Charlotte when Teahen is back. Konerko is getting quite a few off days from the field (he's already 3 games away from his single season high of games played at DH), and Kotsay is the only one that backs him up. If they decide to move Viciedo to first base, it won't be done at the ML level this year and they certainly won't want him playing there down the stretch in a playoff race. I understand nobody likes Kotsy and he's everybody's favorite target, but he isn't killing them and he isn't going to cost them the division. If they lose the division, it'll be because the pitching failed. I like Kotsay. He seems like a great guy, a good clubhouse influence and a capable backup. But when Teahen comes back, Kotsay is the most expendable. Viciedo has been hot with the bat and can play a little 3B, 1B and even though Ozzie seems to resist the idea he can be a RH DH. Teahen can play a little 3B, 1B, and corner OF and can be a LH DH. Both Viciedo and Teahen hit better than Kotsay. Defensively, Kotsay doesn't play OF anymore and can only play 1B. I know he's a clubhouse favorite and a great guy, but just as the Red Sox DFA'd him last season, so the White Sox should when Teahen comes back. If they don't, it's just another case of Ozzie falling in love with a bench player and playing favorites as he seems to do with someone every year.
  7. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) The more I think about it and thanks to Kalapse I think, Torres will be called up to pitch the DH, Viciedo will be send down, and after the Torres gets sent back down, Teahen will be back. That would just be so wrong. Not saying it won't happen, but it would be a bad personnel decision. It would be better if Torres came up and Kotsay was DFA. Then Torres sent down and Teahen called up.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) I agree, I also think Teahen coming back maybe Underestimated. He was batting over .300 when he was hurt and was the only one hitting at that point. He may be an excellent utility guy. Plays 2b,3b,1b, and corner of. But he doesn't play them well (except maybe 1b). The utility guy should be Lillibridge. Teahen should fill Kotsay's current role as LH DH LH PH and back-up 1B. Even though he's a great guy and good teammate, there is no place for Kotsay after Teahen comes back. But Ozzie being Ozzie, either Lillibridge or Viciedo will be the one to get sent down. Let's hope KW overrules him and DFAs Kotsay.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see AJP and Castro brought back, and Flowers traded this offseason. Let's hope so.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I don't think it's as much about Viciedo as it is Ozzie's LOVE for Kotsay. Kotsay should be DFA when Teahen comes back. I'm not saying he will be but he should be.
  11. It seems that Rizzo didn't want the great Tyler Flowers. I'm glad they kept Viciedo.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) In regards to the final point, the Sox can satisfy Dunn by platooning Quentin and Dunn in RF. They're both so bad out there that it really wouldn't matter who is playing out there on any particular night (sorry greg, Quentin is not good in RF, but he's a good hitter). Quentin is bad defensively in RF, but Dunn in RF makes Quentin look like Roberto Clemente. If Dunn would be a full time DH, playing defense only in an emergency, he would be a good fit for the Sox. But trading good prospects for him and putting him in the field either at 1B or OF would be a net negative for the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) What I love is that we won, yet gave KW still more reason to acquire offense. My thoughts exactly!
  14. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) And Quentin is hitting all of .229 in the majors. The 2 have identical .779 OPSs in their respective leagues. Throw in the fact that Quentin is a DH playing right field and hurting us defensively, while Flowers occupies the single most difficult position at which to field an adequate offensive player, and that Flowers is obviously cheaper and is under our control for 3 years more than Quentin......it is not so cut and dried. Though I think I have just made the case that Quentin should learn how to play catcher. Quentin just hit 2HRs tonight while Flowers struck out twice tonight lowering his AAA batting average to .216. And Quentin did make a very nice catch in RF tonight as well. The fact that catcher is the single most difficult position to field an adequate offensive player is a good reason to be more tolerant of AJ, a proven hitter who is just having a bit of a rough season so far. But the two main points were that no team is going to want Flowers as the centerpiece of a trade for a big bat, and trading Quentin for Dunn would not be the answer for the Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Andruw Jones is 18 of his last 117. He has no right to be on a major league roster. But he's having fun playing baseball again.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I think Quentin is worth more to the team right now than both Flowers and Dayan. Quentin worth more than the great Tyler Flowers? The guy hitting .219 in AAA??? I'd trade Flowers in a heartbeat but the problem is no other team would be interested in him as the main piece of a deal, even for a 3 month rental bat. Trading Quentin for Dunn doesn't accomplish much as they'd still be a bat short and Dunn would be gone after this year anyway. Plus with Ozzie around, Dunn would be playing way too much at 1B and in the OF which would make the deal a net loss.
  17. I expect KW to acquire a good LH hitter by Friday.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Hopefully Kotsay can flare one I hope Viciedo hits the game winner.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) Who would have thought Rios and PK would be the rally killers. PK needs a rest. He hasn't looked right at the plate the past few days.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) He can't. Oh well.....
