QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) I've been saying how bad the Alexei/Getz DP combo is all year. Getz doesn't throw hard enough to turn it, and Alexei seems tentative with his tosses to 2nd and he can't get anything on the throw to first. I don't care if it's a rookie DP combo, that doesn't mean it's not killing us this season. Spot on. -

Anytime Carlos Quentin decides to join the 2009 Sox offense will be fine with me. Hopefully it's tonight. -

Josh Anderson available again...
South Side Fireworks Man replied to EvilJester99's topic in The Diamond Club
Because Wise made that catch yesterday we're probably stuck with him for the rest of the season. Josh Anderson would be much better in that role, but it is what it is. -
QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) A good % of the posters in this forum would have taken HGH faced with similar circumstances. I'm not mad at Jim. Same here.

AJ is a winner. He's an all around good ballplayer as well.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Worrying about losing Wise on waivers is absolutely f***ed. No one would even want him and even if they did that would be beneficial. Agreed. In fact $20,000 would be a haul for Dewayne Wise. -

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) What does this mean? Ask Cowley. Probably just trying to stir s*** up again as usual. Just Cowley being Cowley. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Per Cowley's Twitter: Cowley was on the Score a little while ago and among other things said that both Anderson and Wise played hard but "one was playing hard just to be here while the other guy was playing hard so he could be somewhere else and the organization knows this." Another thing he said which shows you how much credibility Cowley has was that defensively speaking Wise isn't that far behind Anderson. -

FWIW Cowley was just on WSCR saying the plan is that Quentin will be starting 75% of the time. So expect Wise to be getting a quarter of the starts plus probably coming in late in games as well. -

QUOTE (shakes @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Ozzie is not the GM. This was Kenny's decision. And the logic isn't that hard to figure out. BA has an option left. If Carlos comes back and aggravates the injury, or if Pods gets dinged up in CF, than Anderson can come back up. It's not likely Wise will get picked up, but he might, or he might refuse his assignment. This is just to have some depth, for the next couple of weeks, to see how things go. This makes sense only if the sox have nothing close to as good as Wise in their minor league system. I find that hard to believe. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) I guess Ive never seen why Anderson has gotten so much love on this board. He had opportunities, Im not about to cry over a player who hit .200 so far in July. Sure he may be a better defender than Wise, but its not such a disservice that it deserves this much attention. Anderson had a chance to earn his role, he didnt. That leaves it up to the manager to decide, and Ozzie made his choice. I agree Anderson is a pretty lousy hitter. I also agree he had his chances to be a starter and failed. I also agree that he had a chance to earn his role and didn't. But Dewayne Wise has earned nothing and has underperformed Anderson in every category. I agree it's Ozzie's choice to make and he made it. I just don't understand why he chose the inferior of the two choices. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) I look forward to reading this thread after 2 hours. It will probably have 45 pages of Wise bashing with 3 or 4 comments mentioning the return of Quentin. I just hope that Quentin's foot doesn't bother him to the extent that it robs him of his power. Otherwise he will be a base clogging singles hitter, which is still an improvement over BA/Wise in the lineup. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) At this point with Q back how often were you expecting Wise/BA to be getting ABs where it ultimately mattered in the grand scheme of things? Almost never, which is my point. You keep the weak hitting above average defender over the even weaker hitting below average defender. There is absolutely no reason to keep Wise over BA at this point. None. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) They probably just wanted a left handed pinch hitter over a right handed pinch hitter. To pinch hit for whom? Great, so we keep a sub .200 hitting crappy fielder around to possibly pinch hit for Nix or Fields on the rare occasions that they're playing? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Anderson had his chance to hit in June. He didn't. Even I'm not going to bother caring about this decision. Who cares about Anderson's hitting? Wise can't hit either and has actually hit worse than Anderson. The question is defense. They both suck at hitting, and I wouldn't want either one coming in to pinch hit for anyone except maybe each other. But who would yo rather see coming in as a defensive replacement for Q every night, Anderson or Wise? -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Wise? Anderson? What's the diff if Quentin, Podsednik, and Dye are playing everyday? Not really a big story here, in my opinion. On a team whose biggest weakness is defense, I think Anderson would be much more valuable as a late inning defensive replacement for Quentin than Dewayne Wise. As for hitting, who is the sub .200 hitting Wise going to pinch hit for anyway? -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Like I said...it ain't a good reason. Also, Wise "bats" left handed. If that's what you call it. I know. It's just that I don't even know if it's sad or funny anymore. -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) It's not a good reason, but it's a reason...Anderson has options left, Wise doesn't. Yeah, because you know teams would be lining up to claim Wise off of waivers.
