  1. Q will probably platoon with Wise so expect to see Wise get the majority of playing time.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Stolen base and error on the throw into CF. Pretty weak effort by Getz in knocking that ball down. Getz sucks in the field.
  3. QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Quentin can't get here soon enough. He'll probably wind up platooning with Wise anyway.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Ozzie's an idiot? Because KW gives him Anderson and Wise and no other options but Jerry Owens and DeWayne Wise for CF this year? I think you've missed Flash's point. He was talking about Poreda, not the CF situation.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Matthew Pouliot doesn't realize that trading Jor Danks and Ramirez will negatively affect the re-signing of Viciedo and John Danks. Good point.
  6. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) When is a decision going to be made to say this guy is ready OR NOT??? I cannot find anything on this site even HINTING when they will even consider bringing him up and it's killing me. Please fill me in guys, are we likely to see him in the Ray's series? Don't expect to see Quentin back up until they can figure out a way to make room for him on the 25 man roster without giving up Dewayne Wise. I don't know whether to use teal or not.
  7. By Dave van Dyck The White Sox had their usual lineup ready for a right-handed pitcher Saturday, as the Orioles sent rookie Brad Bergesen to the mound. Bergesen picked up his first major league victory April 21 against the Sox in Baltimore. The top of the Sox order was the same, with the bottom third of the order scheduled to be Chris Getz, Gordon Beckham and Dewayne Wise. Mark Buerhrle made his first start since pitching a perfect inning in Tuesdayt's All-Star game.
  8. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:20 AM) *Alex Rios. He's got a full NTC. His contract is low this yr, [$5.9 mill.] and wouldn't cost the sox much additional cash this year, or a huge boatload of talent, esp. from previous years. A good "buy low" possibility. The questions would be 1] if the sox think Rios is worth the $60 some mill. over the next 6 years, and 2] if the sox could swing a deal. I'd be a fan of this, as Rios can play CF, Pods play LF, CQ could play some RF and DH. I always thought Rios was a pretty good ballplayer and I didn't think his contract was that outrageous if he could return to form, which I believe he will. However a couple of posters on this board who seem to be pretty knowledgeable tell me he has character issues and doesn't hustle. That kind of cooled me to the idea of the Sox getting Rios. However, if KW and Ozzie think they can handle him, I'd say go for it.
  9. QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) I dont understand what they are doing with CQ. Hes played a weeks plus full of games in the minors. Played 9 innings last night went 2-4, but hes not ready?Obviously hes ready to play in the minors, but not the majors? The way I see it, either shut him down or bring him up. If hes gonna tweak something again it may as well be with the big club and not at a single A game. The soreness is not going away. Ditto.
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:56 PM) If the Sox acquire Roy, will you quit spelling his last name incorrectly? It's only been spell out correctly about a 1000 times between here and WSI You mean spelled correctly? Also, you should end your sentences with a period.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Why in the name of god would they want Richard. They have a lot of starting pitching. If they want a return back for starting pitching its going to be something that projects highly. Like say John Danks. So is Danks + Beckham + Flowers + Hudson + something else about what you want to give up for a 1 1/2 year prayer. Because if you drop that group in, and you don't win it. You have f***ed your franchise for a long time. If this was a Miguel Cabrera type guy, who plays everyday is young and under control sure blast away. But going for a pitcher and Rolen, I don't know if that pushes you over the top. Our pitching is pretty good right now outside of our 5th starter. X player + secondary crap or large numbers of crap isn't going to get this done. Think young major leaguers who project highly, and are under control for a long time. I don't know if they want Richard or anybody else. That's not the point. I was responding to the question whether or not trading Beckham straight up for Halliday would put the Sox in a good position to win the World Series. I said that if the Sox could also get Rolen along with Halliday then trading Beckham and someone other than the Sox top four starters would indeed put the Sox in a good position to win the crappy AL Central and the rotation of Halliday, Buehrle, Danks and Floyd/Contreras would be tough to beat in October. Period. I have no idea if Ricciardi would want Beckham enough to make such a deal or if he would hang up on KW after he stopped laughing. I just responded to the hypothetical situation of trading Beckham for Halliday. And no way would I trade any of the sox top four starters for Halliday. I wouldn't mind including Flowers in a trade for him though. (Not Flowers + Beckham though)
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) How exactly does adding Halladay equal title. This team has a lot of flaws and is not a single pitcher away from being a title contender. We wouldn't have kids like Beckham starting one year from their draft day on a one player away world series contender. We are a team in transition that might challenge the pirates for worst team if we deck Beckham and some kids for a 1 1/2 year rental. If you could get Rolen along with Halliday for just Beckham, or say Beckham and Richard, you improve at 3B and starting staff. With the improvement from Richard to Halliday and Beckham to Rolen, you can reasonably expect to win the crappy AL Central. In the playoffs, a rotation of Halliday, Buerhle, Danks and either Floyd or Contreras looks mighty tough to beat.
  13. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) i think a deal of Richard, Poreda, Fields, and another prospect would get Halladay. That's 3 young guys who are already at MLB level and an upcoming propsect. That's rumored to be more than what they are looking for. Sold!
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Trading Flowers would be a huge mistake. .....Unless they get somebody really good.
  15. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Everyone has a bad day once in a while, but I guess you didnt read my post. I said trade Beckham, but no one else. F--- the future if it means another title, that's my thinking. I'd be tempted to consider trading Beckham for Halliday plus Rolen.
  16. QUOTE (DC23MVP @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) I think that a Floyd, Beckham, and Alexei for Halladay deal is pretty good for us, but I don't think we need to do it. We'd have a whole at 3B and at SS that would be hard to fill, and I think it wouldn't be worth it.
  17. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) I have a bad feeling..... We'll make another Ken Griffey head scratching move. We'll finish 10 games back. Hope I am wrong. I have a bad feeling that Carlos Quentin is going to be their 2009 version of the 2008 Griffey Jr. Hope I am wrong.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) So now, what happens with Armstrong and Lucy? Cole has been on fire with the bat lately, and has gotten his season numbers to a respectable level, which is impressive considering where they were in April and May. Lucy has had a few good games lately too, but he's behind Cole at the plate. Armstrong hits left, which would be more ideal to back up Flowers, but Lucy hits righty, more ideal to back up AJ. Its possible one of them will be dealt or released. Its also possible Armstrong goes down to AA to get regular reps, so he can become Flowers' backup, and allow Lucy to work with Flowers on defense. Or, given Lucy is struggling so badly at the plate, maybe its Lucy who gets demoted. ??? Cubs need a catcher...
  19. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Wow. Makes sense because of the bat, but I really hope we're going to let this kid's skills develop behind the plate before we call him up to the Sox as a C. I'd bet almost anything that we don't. Let's hope Beckham doesn't get hurt or Ozzie will probably start Flowers at 3B. (I don't know if that should be in teal or not which is sad).
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) If that's true, then there's no serious mandate for them to cut salary and it's time to just start closing threads. Really. That makes no sense at all. I've always felt that 90% of what we hear/read as far as trade rumors are concerned is either pure BS or misinformation anyway.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Yes, he's got character issues and rarely hustles. Hmmmmm. Then I guess I'll retract my plan. I'd still like to have Halliday and Rolen, though. Beckham needs to be moved to his future home of 2B ASAP. Rolen's bat and glove would help the Sox and again adding Halliday without giving up Buehrle, Danks or Floyd makes the Sox very dangerous in the playoffs.
  22. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) God awful. From Rotoworld: The only way I'd take him is if the Blue Jays payed at least half of his remaining contract. Plus, from what I have gathered, he is a big time d-bag. Is he? I never heard that. He always looked pretty good to me whenever I saw him play in previous years. Even though he's having a bad year this season, looking at his stats he'd still be an improvement for the Sox. If he really is a bad character guy as you say, then I wouldn't want any part of him. But I don't know that to be true.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) And we tie ourselves up with these contracts, how do we extend Danks and Quentin, etc? Halliday is only signed through next year. I believe Rolen as well ( could be wrong but I think that's what I heard). So the only contract they're tied to is Rios and if he reverts to form it's not that terrible. ...And Danks and Quentin are under Sox control for a while anyway.
  24. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) so the sox should be financially irresponsible by taking on an overrated player's contract just to try and win a crappy division this year? We're not the early 2000's Yankees Rios is pretty good and the Sox have money coming off the books the next couple of years. And Halliday gives the Sox a real shot at the WS once they win the crappy division.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) His contract is awful! Right. Which is one of the reasons the Jays would lower their asking price for Halliday if a team is willing to take him as well.
