  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) You could tell as soon as the lineup was posted that our 6-9 hitters were going to be in a lot of trouble. Castro just shouldn't be playing against RHP, and what the hell happened to Getz? He doesn't put up near the productive numbers to go through these long slumps. Getz is a nice little part time player, a good 25th man to have on a roster. As is Anderson. The problem is, the Sox have two "25th men" in their starting lineup (2B & CF) another "25th man" at best in Josh Fields, and a guy not even good enough to be a "25th man" on most teams, Dewayne Wise, all on their current major league roster. Plus, they have a kid barely one year out of college starting at a position he never played before in his life.
  2. QUOTE (kwill @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) If we are doing just pure speculation and fun. How about Poreada and Dotel for Brandon Wood. OK, I'll play: Poreda, Flowers, Getz, Fields and Linebrink for Tejada and Pence.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) InsideTheSoxSox at Reds: pods7, missile6, aj2, pk3, ba8, getz4, beckham5, wise9, richard1. They really need to upgrade over Wise. Even Craig Monroe would be better. Almost anybody.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Flowers has been put into the same category as Beckham in terms of trade value, at least by the organization. He won't get moved unless it's just a mega deal. I understand that. My question therefore is what kind of value do you think he has to other teams? If the Sox did trade him, what kind of return would they get? Could they get a stud outfielder or a top of the rotation type pitcher or a top flight third baseman for him? Or do the Sox value him considerably higher than how other teams see him?
  5. To those of you who follow the minor league prospects, just a question: What do you think the Sox could get for Tyler Flowers, or a package of Flowers along with a Getz or a Fields? I know most don't want to even consider trading a guy like Flowers, but I'm just wondering what kind of value does he have at this point. Would a guy like Flowers be able to land us that stud outfielder (say a Hunter Pence) or a top line pitcher? Just wondering.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) How about finding a RF for next year, and then basically narrowing down between Dye and Thome who you want to play DH next season? Like who?
  7. Get Tejada to play third base and move Beckham to 2B to stay. I believe Tejada will be a type A free agent so his departure would help restock the organization with a prospect since they would likely trade a prospect or two in acquiring him. Also get an upgrade over Wise as a fifth outfielder.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) His range to his left is great. That's about the only above average thing he does defensively. He's been atrocious at turning the double play, with both setting up Alexei as well as his throws to first. I'd give his defense a C- so far. Agreed.
  9. QUOTE (HoosierSox @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) People are forgetting Getz saved a run earlier in the game with that dazzling highlight play up the middle. I think he is just fine at 2b and hes starting to really hit the ball well. Looking at the entire season so far, not just one game, Getz's defense has been mediocre.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I hope we win, but I hope its because of our young guys developing and while Getz had a less than stellar defensive game thats okay because he's starting to hit and figure stuff out and defensively he is darn good. Defensively Getz has been mediocre at best.
  11. Dye getting the day off: Podsednik lf Ramirez ss Pierzynski c Konerko 1b Wise rf Anderson cf Getz 2b Beckham 3b Buehrle p Ugh.
  12. Jose proves all his critics wrong -- once again.
  13. Podsednik lf Ramirez ss Dye rf Konerko 1b Castro c Nix 2b Anderson cf Beckham 3b Contreras p
  14. Paul Konerko expects to return to White Sox's lineup Saturday By Mark Gonzales MILWAUKEE - First baseman Paul Konerko said he would be "shocked" if he doesn't return Saturday to the White Sox's lineup. Konerko said the shot he received has successfully alleviated the pain in his right thumb. He said he won't attempt to take batting practice before Friday night's game at Milwaukee.
  15. Tonight's Sox lineup: Podsednik lf Ramirez ss Dye rf Pierzynski c Anderson cf Getz 2b Beckham 3b Fields 1b Richard p Konerko says he'd be "shocked" if he was not in the lineup Saturday.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Micah Hoffpair Is that "tongue in cheek" or do you know something???
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) If Nix is a key part of your team in 2010, then we're in trouble again. He's fine as the 2nd back-up infielder. I agree, but I think the same is true of Getz. I want a quality third baseman and Beckham at 2B, this year.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) Why not give Getz a chance to see what he can do? Besides for Brian Anderson, no one has received more love for accomplishing less than Nix this season. Nix is an outstanding defensive second baseman. Neither can hit much, but Nix has a little more pop. Everyone knows 2B belongs to Beckham anyway, so until they trade for someone to play third (which I hope is soon) I would play the better defender with a little more pop. If Getz or Nix aren't included in any trades, both make decent bench players although again Nix ghas an edge because of his versatilty over Getz.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) He calls up Beckham but lets Ozzie Guillen sit him in both games of a double header because of a slow-start. That's not true. Beckham is starting tonight.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) Wow. Poreda is better than Freddy, just promote Poreda is Freddy is going to be expected to be in the rotation at some point. They're probably going to trade Poreda.
  21. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) The White Sox also signed right-hander Freddy Garcia to a minor league deal, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Good.
  22. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Who knew Fields / BA wouldn't perform to their capabilities? They are performing to their capablities. That's the problem.
  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Good...I'd still rather have Nix in than Getz for this game though. I'd rather have Nix at 2B over Getz every game -- until they get a quality third baseman and move Beckham to his future home at 2B.
