  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) Fields takes 3rd, Owens stays in LF. Double trouble.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) I think he should be up right now, but it's pretty clear the Sox don't trust his off-speed stuff right now, which is understandable. If the Sox thought he could help this team out right now, he would be up. I don't buy the "clock" argument at all. I thought September callups don't count against the "clock". Do they?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) It was so obvious there was just a different energy with Crede in the game. Yeah.....and not in a good way.
  4. Now you see why some of us wanted to keep Uribe. He's worth every penny he's being paid.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) Too soon for Anderson to come in? With a 5-0 lead, I'd put him in for defense.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) angel announcers were just talking about what a beautiful swing griffey has, then that DJ mentioning Junior "shaking his hand out" after that swing.
  7. QUOTE (forrestg @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) Iguchi released http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Do we want him? He did well for us before but where will he play or would he be great off the bench....... I say if no one else really wants him do the guy a favor and sign him to sit on the bench during the last month of the pennant race. It will keep him in MLB and maybe the good will towards him will encourage him to put in a good word for the Sox with future FAs in Japan. What could it hurt? Reward the guy for his past contributions if he can't land a better job somewhere else in MLB.
  8. Even if they lose today, it's only one game. They can still go to Cleveland and take two of three. If they just go on winning series for the rest of the year, blah blah blah..........
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) And his streaks are always in April and September, according to his lifetime splits. It's quite wierd. Cool!
  10. Well, Uribe is way better at SS than Cabrera, so if Crede has to play third, Uribe and Cabrera should at least split time at SS.
  11. In defense of Eddings' call, nobody caught in a rundown spins and turns with their arms at their sides. It's common and natural for balance to swing one's arms when changing directions. AJ took advantage of the fact that the defender did not move far enough out of the way. AJ could have avoided contact by pulling his arms in, but why should he?
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) The injury to Wise is most likley going to put him on the DL, if it is as serious as reported. Thoughts were another pitcher might be called up, but also speculation they might be waiting to see if Joe Crede is ready to come back up. Ozzie didn't think Joe was ready, but in the 4th inning of today's game Charlotte-Norfolk Joe Crede has turned a DP in the field at 3B and has a hit. I would like Joe back up here for the road trip. Thoughts? Bring up a pitcher and keep Crede on the DL. Uribe is playing better than Crede at third right now and the Sox bullpen is wearing a little thin.
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) ...and right there it f***ing shows why he doesn't have that many late inning hits but his OBP is through the roof. Why do teams avoid him and guys like Alex Gonzalez get all the game winning hits. How many times has he been intentionally walked in late inning clutch situations? I don't recall that many. I do seem to remember him striking out or grounding out a lot in those situations. Maybe that's why he doesn't have many late inning hits? I'm not dogging Thome here, but since he's been with the Sox most of his big hits seem to have come early in the games.
  14. Uribe lost his starting job to Ramirez when Juan was injured and Alexei played well. Now Uribe has earned the starting 3B job playing for the injured Crede. Juan should remain the starting 3Bman as long as he continues to play well.
  15. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) QUOTE "All this has done has put the Tigers in a better position to contend with us," a supremely confident Williams stated, without the hint of a smile or laugh. After I first heard this I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry. I'm eating crow right now, this makes Kenny look like a genius. Actually this was the one thing Kenny was wrong about. Acquiring Cabrera didn't really put the Tigers in position to contend with the Sox.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Cross Garcia off the list, the Tiggers got him. s***. I'm going to hate rooting against Freddy.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) that's the problem, there really is no real talent in the minors right now And that's why I hope Dave Wilder rots in prison.
  18. QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) Well look on the bright side on losing Jose. It will force the Sox hand to acquire another starting pitcher, perhaps not for 08, but defiantly for 09. That means we will probably get someone younger and more talented that isn't a liability in holding runners on or covering 1st base. Im not happy Contreras is gone, but sometimes this stuff and turn out to be a blessing in disguise if it forces KW to do what he does, go out there get creative in bring in someone we thought we weren't going to get. Could work out well for 2009. As I posted in another thread, I would have Thornton try out for one of the starting slots next spring.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) It's amazing what's happened in the last 48 hours with regards to next year. 3rd base and #5 starter are serious holes. If I was KW and/or Ozzie, I'd go into spring training with the idea of having Matt Thornton compete for a starting job.
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) People here arent upset enough about this I totally would have preferred Contreras over Vazquez in one playoff game. More of a big game pitcher. And frankly, just a better yr so far than Vaz. Which is not saying much, I know. I'm very upset about this, and I agree with you.
  21. Well, there goes the Sox' best pitcher and probably the season with him. We don't need a fifth starter, we already have one--Vazquez. The Sox need a one or two to replace Contreras. Maybe a three.....
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 05:42 AM) I recently sort of warmed up to Garcia, but obviously with consideration the became less. If he came with an option for $6-8 mill non-guaranteed next year I'd be down for it because he's a fantastic pitcher, plain and simple. If not, I really see no point as the idea is to get an upgrade from Contreras while also spelling Floyd and Danks for a start here or there too. I love Freddy and know he could be an upgrade in certain spots for this club, but without an option for next year, I see no point in really signing him, since, outside of next year, there's not a huge point in signing him. The point should be to get an upgrade from Vazquez. I'll take Jose or Freddy over Javy in an important game any time.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) He barely did that in '06 and was better than a league average pitcher. He's still probably a better big game pitcher than Vazquez, anyway.
