  1. QUOTE(forrestg @ May 28, 2007 -> 01:45 AM) pitching wise he's not a prospect but can strike out. He'll be 28 next year what the heck I say we should give Dewon Day his day in the bigs.. Cooper can make him throw strikes cut back on his walks. If they call him up his arbitration clock is already clicking if that is a deciding factor... he did ok in spring training not real good now.. Can't be any worse than the player he's replacing.... FWIW, somebody with a grand total of two posts at WSI posted that he has "reliable" information that Day has been called up.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 27, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) The scary thing is Cleveland's offense is only going to get better. Haffner, Sizemore and Barfield are still not at the level they most likely will be at. Detroit should cool down a bit. Iguchi, Dye, Konerko and Crede are still not at the level they most likely will be at either. It could come down to whose bullpen is better/worse.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) I don't like Craig Wilson, but I like this type of thinking. He's also someone who can catch if necessary, which might give Ozzie some more flexibility. Exactly. If he can be a competent third catcher, it frees up Hall to be used as a pinch hitter or a DH at times. Same with A.J. on days he's not starting at catcher.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) I think it will definitely be Prinz, and it sounds like Gonzalez as well. No need for too many lefties in the bullpen. Can somebody give me the lowdown on Prinz? What's his story, what does he throw and what can we expect from him?
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) Yeah, if they were saying this week that MacDougal's been battling an injury, then Ozzie is an even bigger idiot than I give him credit for. See? We do agree on some things.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I hate the Cubs more than anyone on this site. However, they have a lot of talent on that team. And I hate the way the Sox have been playing more than anyone on this board. But a little perspective is in order. And for the record, our Sox also have a lot of talent on the team as well. They just need a little tweaking and for the talent they have to play up to their capabilities.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Ha...the Cubs chances of making the playoffs are much greater than the Sox's chances are. Their division might be the worst I've ever seen. The teams in the NL Central simply get their ass-kicked by teams outside their division. I'm sure you'll be happy at Wrigley for the rest of the season.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) I'd have to guess that Prinz, Vasquez, and Gonzalez will be on a flight to Minnesota tonight. The talent level continues to decrease. Sox made this move to clear rooom on the 25 man roster for Ichiro. Dye is moving to LF.
  9. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Fixed it for you. My post did not require your "fixing." This team does not suck. Quality players like Dye and Konerko have not been doing their jobs. This team does need a tweaking by KW, and although they have been playing poorly at times during the first two months, they do not suck. If they sucked, theyd be playing well under .500. If you can't stand the heat of a pennant race, go over to Wrigley.
  10. If the Sox fall short of making the playoffs this year, it will have been because Dye and Konerko killed us for the first two months of the season.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Ozuna was a solid utility player. We'll miss his hustle and versatility. However, he's someone that can be replaced if KW is smart and Ozzie doesn't get his way. Let's just see what they replace him with. I don't think it's possible to acquire a "utility guy" as good as Pablo (maybe Chone Figgins) and since we've been playing without a major league LF all season I suggest Kenny get one in here real quick. Either that, or a top flight SS/2B who can become the starting 2B.
  12. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) do macdougal and sisco suck, or what? Yes. Yes they do.
  13. Pablo was one of the better players the Sox had. The guy could fly, was a quality hitter and could play at many positions. He always gave everything he had, and got hurt giving it that extra effort trying to help the Sox win. He will truly be missed. Even before today, the Sox were playing one quality player short all season. KW better get busy gettting a major league talent in here quick.
  14. Game rained out. No DH tomorrow--the almighty dollar rules. Game to be made up Aug. 27th.
  15. Good that we won tonight and beat a good pitcher. I just wish the Sox had more speed. A man on 2B for the Sox is not a man in scoring position most of the time. And they rarely can move from first to third on a hit to RF. It's rough when you face a pitcher with the second lowest BAA in the league and string three solid basehits together followed by a long fly ball to RF and come away with nothing. Still, they won!
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) I don't get the connection to Guillen. I doubt Guillen ever threatened someone's life like that. I don't see any connection to Guillen either. Anyway, how does Dukes threatening someone's life make Guillen look like a loser?
  17. Too bad the Twins would never consider trading Torii to the divisional rival White Sox.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 20, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Terrero getting sent down and Owens getting called up to play LF everyday. He has a good OBP, BB, and SB numbers. Like to see that average higher though. Plus, you never know. He could be our leadoff guy for a couple years. The only problem with that is then we wouldn't have a competent backup CFer.
  19. As I've said before, I wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with some of the posters here. Sure we all get frustrated when the Sox don't play well, but people were advocating Fire Sales and blowing the team up when they were playing over .500, only 3-4 games out of first in early May, even while most of the team was hitting way below their career norms. Unbelieveable. It's as if most of these people never went through an entire 162 game baseball season before. A lot of posters here are an embarassment to true Sox fans if other team's fans ever lurk here and read their whinning.
  20. The past week has shown that Sweeney is not ready yet to be a big league starter, and sitting him on the bench would be the worst thing for him at this point. I'm glad Ozzie started him as much as he did the past few weeks, but now I think they made the correct move by sending him back to AAA.
  21. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 19, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) You little kids have no idea how to love a team. It either win everything or nothing for you. When we win a game it's "YEAH"!!! When we lose it's "Fire EVERYONE!!!" You are too bi-polar. You are obviously a young, spoiled group who grew up under a Bulls Championship dynasty. I grew up in an era where Chicago had NO championships for the longest time. Instead of savoring it...you spit it out and wanted seconds. You have no clue what's its like to wait your whole life for ONE Championship. You got it and you greedy, ungrateful lot demand 162-0 seasons since. Can you be disappointed by a loss...yes. But, there is a balance to being a TRUE fan. Big deal what Cubs fans think. They are going on 100 years without tasting what we tasted a year and half ago. I'm sorry...TRUE White Sox fans DO NOT act the way the unfortunate vocal ones on this board act.
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) A firesale hurts this team for a lot longer than you guys think. Sure it gives you some talent, that may or may not help you. But a fire sale will kill attendance. A fire sale + cubs doing well will bury it. It will taper off later this year. If we are fielding a rebuilding team next year, they will see less renewals on the ticket plans. And without that revenue, the salary of our team will drop. Its a vicious circle. Hopefully they can turn this around. You are absolutely correct. The Sox need to add a couple of key pieces in the next month or two, not subtract. Since the Sox don't have anything in their minor league system to help, they must overpay financially to fill holes. This is why they should be looking to pick up a couple of high priced guys by taking on some contracts while giving up little in talent in return. The Sox have been playing like crap and they're still over .500 and well within reach of first place with a lot of time to go. If they would only start playing up to their career norms, they would be right up there near the top. Adding a couple of key pieces can put them over the top. A fire sale would only guarantee the end of the current WS window and would guarantee nothing for the next few years. The Sox have to keep attendance up this year so they have the resources to replace the guys everyone is saying need to be replaced for next year. There is no one in the farm system that will help, so they need to pay for top tier talent. They have to operate like a big market team.
  23. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:46 AM) And you would trust KW to rebuild this team? Why? Let's say they lose Buehrle and Dye as Free Agents...do you really trust KW to rebuild, when we've had so many blown first round draft picks and busts in our farm system? KW has a good track record as Sox GM. And if they lose a couple of free agents, they can also sign a couple of free agents. I just hope the Sox can win today, because if this team ever loses two in a row again, some people here will be ready to throw in the towel again and clamor for a fire sale.
