  1. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) And if Ozuna was thrown out, people will scream for Ozzie's ass - How stupid can you be to have Ozuna steal a base when Thome or Konerko is coming up? And that, my friend, has been the problem and the reason why the Sox haven't been playing "smart ball" as much this year. Stay aggressive, play the game right, and let the home runs come when they may instead of just waiting around for them to happen. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) All that said, we should still be willing to call hit and runs and stolen bases because it will keep the team fresh and make sure the opposition is focused defensively. Thank you.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Can Ozzie please try to be agressive. This team has been so fishing passive the past few weeks its disgusting. Our fastest and best base stealer has reached based twice tonight and he's yet to run (Ozuna). He even had a few pitches that got in the dirt (one of which he should have been on 2nd on) where he didn't attempt anything either. I noticed that and was thinking the exact same thing.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Hope for a sweep Twins sweep(and we can actually take care of business), and we gain ground in the Central. Tigers sweep, and we gain ground in the Wild Card. At this point, I don't care who wins. I just want a sweep. The winner of the first game dictates who I cheer for in the next 2 games. That's good thinking.
  4. Ozzie better play the "A" lineup. We need LEFTIES in there against Santana. He kills righties anyway. Twins have a good chance to sweep this series. At the moment, they are the best team in baseball. Sox must find a way to win this series!!!
  5. Most definitely their roles should be reversed---and right now. Vazquez does great the first couple of times through the lineup but can't pitch well the third time to a hitter in the same game. Salary is not even an issue, because the total salary remains the same no matter which role McCarthy and Vazquez are in.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) I've never seen his 2 seamer look so crisp, he was blowing it right by hitters. Then he hit the 6th and it all went to spiff. Javy belongs in the Sox bullpen --- or starting for someone else.
  7. Vazquez sucks. Get him out of there while it's still close.
  8. This series is HUGE. These games are indeed now even more important for the Sox than last week's series against the Tigers. Let's hope Vazquez can give a quality performance for a change tomorrow. And I hope Ozzie puts some lefties in the lineup against Santana. Santana mows right through our all RH lineup.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) The last time I checked, Stewart had only caught 1 Haeger start this season. Matos has been him primary catcher. Thanks. I guess I was misinformed.
  10. QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) I was watching baseball tonite and theres a rumor the sox may be getting joe boroski, you think theres any possibility that we get Olivo back in that trade?? I always liked Olivo. Not a good game caller, but still.... I doubt the Marlins would trade him unless they got something pretty good in return.
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) And the fact that he's making 8.5 million this year, which would probably be around what, 3 mil for the rest of the year? I wouldn't give that to a backup. They paid Ben Davis $1M last year to sit in the minors or on the DL, so $3M to Lopez would be a bargain by comparison.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I also talked to BHAM last night, regarding Stew, actually. Says he's a good character guy and he likes his game calling. His PB numbers in Charlotte can be overlooked, because of Haeger. I thought I remember hearing somewhere that Stewart does an excellent job handling Haeger's knuckler. Can anyone shed more light on how well he handles Haeger? Also, could it be that a move is in the works that would involve Haeger coming up resulting in Widger being DFA'd and Stewart coming up as Haeger's caddy?
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) It's not. McCarthy would be a must for the Marlins in a Willis deal. No deal then.
  14. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) I would love Willis, but it would most likely cast Fields and Sweeney, and I think they might be too much to give up. If that's what it takes to get Willis, this deal should be done yesterday.
  15. Either start McCarthy and put Vazquez in the bullpen where he belongs, or trade Vazquez and Mackowiak for Howry & Pierre, Gordon & Rowand, Etc. Vazquez does well the first couple of times through the llineup, so use him in relief. McCarthy is our starter of the future anyway, and he can't do any worse than Vazquez right now. I have nothing against Mackowiak, but it seems as long as he's around Ozzie is going to continue to stick him in CF. He doesn't belong there.
  16. That was the most satisfying win of the season so far to me. Nice job by Jon, and Paulie came through big time. Let's keep it up and go on a big win streak.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Its sort of my personal crusade. I can't believe all the posts I see of acquiring rubbish who will magically turn to gold working with Cooper. Cooper was the Sox pitching coach before last season, and I didn't see everyone thinking he was a miracle worker then. I do think he's a good pitching coach. I just don't think he "fixes" everybody. If the guy was the miracle worker a lot of people think he is, would the board have any posts which state the concern with the current pitching staff, the one with the greatest rotation ever assembled? I agree with you. I feel the same way regarding all the posts about how Vazquez is going to be great in the second half this season because Contreras struggled last year in the first half.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Javier Vazquez is going to have the second best second half of any pitcher on our team. I hope you're right, but I highly doubt it. Someone recently posted stats on Vazquez showing how his first time through the lineup opposing hitters have a miniscule batting average against him, second time through pretty small and then third time through astronomical. Therefore... Sell the farm for Dontrelle Willis, and move Javy into the bullpen. Problems solved.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) BTW....station-to-station baseball rules. For a team that was supposed to have speed as a major component, the Sox are sure slow. Dye looks like he runs with cement shoes on, Crede, Konerko, and A.J. are just plain slow, Iguchi has average speed at best, Pods gets thrown out at too high a rate...and oh yeah, nice hustle by Thome today.
  20. It's early, anything can happen yet, but at this particular point in time... THE WHITE SOX SUCK. I just had to vent. Now, let's win this freakin' game!!!
  21. Sounds good to me. I was thinking the same thing. Abreu>>>Pods Gordon>>McCarthy McCarthy>Vazquez
  22. It's a combination of things. Our pitchers pitched over their heads last season, Vazquez is pitching like he normally does (mediocre), and historically a lot of times staffs that pitch late into October often have down years the following season. Schmidt is not the answer. It's D. Willis or bust. Sox won't repeat with pitching like this.
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) And which of these "actions" contributed to the rumors of Bobby being a white supremacist? The fact that he lived in rural Idaho, drove a pickup truck, and listened to the Charlie Daniels Band? Or the fact that somebody heard him use a racial slur? Because if he did use the term "dirty Jew", he MUST be a white supremacist! :rolly Don't these things set off your "white supremacist radar"??? QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) In my experience, racists can be identified by the way that they use the race card to tear down those that they don't like. Right on.
