  1. Again, I don't think it's much of an issue because that's only this year. Even if they keep him, it's only this year. I think the issue is more how many years they are committed to it.
  2. No the 4 year isn't crazy. It would be a consideration, if that is truly the length. However, the Sox can't afford to wait around forever when they had other needs as well.
  3. Agreed. I wouldn't unless they are special players or in house ones you know everything about them
  4. That's where they sign the young in house players to long term deals like Robert, Jimenez, Moncada and Anderson. Then they can sign FA to short term deals for others.
  5. Agreed. Which is why I wouldn't sign many FA to long term deals unless 1. They come from your team where you know everything about them 2. They are very special player. I know many disagree but it usually just isn't worth the risk especially when we know there will be a budget limit.
  6. Of course there are ways to make it work. But is it worth committing it for when you know they will be declining.
  7. 5 year deals are iffy for any player. You know they will declining towards the end.
  8. He will be. That is just a time injury. Unless there is an underlying instability but I would hope they checked that
  9. It's not the single year salary. It's how many years after that they need to commit to him.
  10. Agreed. I think the Vaughn/Sheets/Engel will produce good offense. The question is what is it worth to have Conforto offense difference and defense for 7 innings worth it?
  11. They would never hold a lead. Imagine the reaction when they lose leads in the 7 and 8. "How could RH not sign a decent reliever" We have all these hitters but can't hold a lead.
  12. That was just in response to the person that said they could platoon him with those splits. Not that he should platoon.
  13. you put this edit in after I replied. I wholeheatredly agree they overworked the starters coming off the previous year. I hope Katz learned his lesson and changes it. A positive sign is that he changed it at the end of the season but it was too late by then.
  14. True, but when they have a young cost controlled lineup, they can do that. If they have a number of quality one inning guys the need for multi-innings guys decreases. Plus Crochet will move to a multi-inning guy. I don't know the guys they picked up well enough to discern that but I like the idea.
  15. If you consider getting RP squandering that is. ? Regardless of that as he stated 20+ AAV for a platoon bat is a waste of resources as well.
  16. Yep. Many times the deals are more about getting more than a certain other player more than the actual money. They get on each other in the locker room constantly.
