Sterotype much?

It is the only thing that truly matters. We know that one of the primary reasons for muscle injuries (other than previous injury which is always number 1) is passive stretching. Unless there is a significant lack of range of motion, passive stretching is not needed. it also decreases power and performance. This is why you see the dynamic stretching before competition. hopefully the athletes aren't doing it in the off season. Listening to the comments from players including Engel, in my opinion a strong possibility (just so people don't go crazy with "conclusions" again) it was the relative lack of baseball players and increased working out, that is causing many of the issues. You can train all you want but the quick start and stops at odd angles, reaching for the 1st base bag, diving for balls, sliding at weird angles really can't be duplicated in workouts.

The reason not to do a white flag is they will get Jimenez back and probably Robert. As well as Kopech into a more significant role.

Medicine is a practice not an exact science. The staff seemed to be handling it properly without letting him play on consecutive days and really restricting his activity. It may just be that he had a severe injury and really needs to take more time off but the team really needs him so they are pushing it.
-
Yep. This is the problem with the severe midsubstance muscle tears. It is why I say that Robert will probably be back bit it is also the one that worries me the most.

I said at the time that Bassitt was going to be the player that they would regret trading. You could see his pitchability.

He's not wrong. It makes sense with gripping the ball tighter. The medial forearm is where the finger flexors originate. When those muscle get fatigued the stress goes to the ligament which is already under stress.

I've been a proponent of this for years AAA is good for development up to a point. There comes a point where they need to learn to perform against MLB caliber players. It is a gap.
-
I don't think anyone really knows. He needs reliever innings this year. Kopech part time starter needs next year. It remains to be seen if he can handle that load.
-
I would guess 60 for crochet. I can't rodon being anymore than 150 for the season and playoffs.
-
Next year will be a little over 100 barring injury.
-
Yep. This is similar to the Eloy surgery. Much more effective when it's reattching it to the bone as opposed to the middle of the muscle.
-
Yep. From now on its how it reacts to the progressive activities. The attachment has healed.

Right on target.

Madrigal goes on 60 day DL, Hamstring tear: Goodwin recalled

Got it. I still think you are undervaluing a nearly double injury rate by calling it minor. It the largest baseball has ever seen at this point in the season. I don't think it is by chance. You are correct that we don't know why that is why it needs to be investigated. Purely my opinion and others I've talked to that the relative decrease in baseball activities could be a factor. It makes physiologic sense. -

That was a well researched article. He is right on all accounts. Pitchers and velocities show elbow issues. Baseball only activities when young show an increased chance of injury. -

The proof will be in the pudding as you say to see how the injury rates change not only next year but also through the rest of the year. However I have seen no research at all linking vaccines and injuries so that is far down the list of possible reasons. -

Velocity is the primary cause of elbow injuries. Research shows this. Not so much for shoulder injuries. The almost double the rate of injuries is not just pitchers, it's a huge increase in position players. It is a big issue as it is a huge increase especially if it's an outlier. This would add credence to the time off from baseball activities could be a cause we have never really considered. Not to say that it is but it brings up the new ideas to consider. It is definitely not normal to have this huge increase in injury rate from one year to the next. The lack of baseball specific activity may not be the cause but it certainly needs to be investgated. -

Of course there can be no conclusions as we are looking at just one season to another. The type of workouts they do would be irrelevant from the research perspective as none of the workouts can replicate true baseball activity. The question is is baseball specific enough that workouts can't replicate it. However with an almost double the injury rate from last year to this year it is an interesting discussion and will lead to further research on it because anecdotally it sure looks like there is a relationship. -

It depends where they are in the healing process. We've found that adding stress to any process increases the strength of the tissue. An example is why we put people in boots for ankle/foot fractures as opposed to casts like we used to. After about 8 weeks nearly all injuries are healed but it takes time to to regain the strength and control of the muscles. The new part here is how specific baseball activities are. Most of these players getting injured worked out for the last year but for the first time in the lives they worked out more than played baseball. It really seems to have a negative effect in their health. -

Agreed. It's tough to call them injury prone because they are all weird injuries. However it does keep happening. -

Not due to this injury but he seems to one of those guys that always has issues. Similar to Robert. -

After reading about the latest muscle injuries and Engels comments I think the injuries are from what the exercise field refers to as the SAID principle. Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands. In other words nothing really gets you ready to play baseball other than playing baseball. We've always known this in running. We knew it was unique and you need to run to get your body to run. You can to other thing to prepare the body bit you need to run. We've never thought baseball was that specific as we see running to first base is just running. But coming out of the box and stretching to first look to be specific activities that need the adaptations. Anyway just thought I would share some discussions we've been having in the medical field about all of these injuries. -
Doesn't mean people shouldn't be held accountable for what they say.

Good point.
