It does make you appreciate that Soxtalk isn't a singularity. Other boards are too.

Time to move on. If you aren't sure after nearly 40 starts, you have your answer.
-
A classic seafood seasoning. Can't go wrong with that.
-
I don't think that was ever a comment. Bad is one thing, being good is another.
-
Teams with good pitching tend to do well in the playoffs?
-
That's why I think teams need to focus on pitching. It is more of a in known the hitting for various reasons.
-
Yes, a good return will speed up the process and help but need is the wrong word to use.
-
True. Looking only at a single year doesn't really tell much.
-
Agreed that of course you need both and you build the roster overall as best you can. But with the higher bust rate and injury rate for pitchers, teams need more shots at the good ones.
-
Yes. That is only this offseason. Building a team is more than just one trade.
-
This data is for the regular season. What is the data during the playoffs? As I said hitting gets teams there, the better pitching wins in the postseason. Although with the new rules changing both hitting and pitching approaches, it may change. There isn't enough data to show it yet.
-
That is very short term thinking. The Sox need to hit to be good in the near future. The longer view is that the new FO should produce a better overall system. I don't think they will trade Robert. He doesn't have Boras for an agent.
-
Agreed. But I also understand the hesitancy to sign pitchers to large long term deals.
-
This is exactly why pitching is a priority. The bust rate is so high, Tema need more to get the chance at quality. Hitting will get you to the playoffs. Pitching is what wins in the playoffs. This is why the Orioles needs this type of trade otherwise it will be an early exit again.

That's good to hear. I think he would do well there. He's seems pretty cool and collected on the mound.

Also anyone who had COVID. Many documented cardiac issues after recovery. The NCAA made it mantory for endurance athlete to have a full cardiac work up for myocarditis before returning to practice.
-
Just depends on the cause and the damage done. It can be more problematic for athletes as they typically train harder than your average person and the possibility of cardiac events such as strokes or blood clots is higher.

I hope you're right. I just see too many posts stating that once cheap JR is gone, new new owner will come in to correct the spending. I'm skeptical about that but the other improvements are probably realistic. Except the not giving the long term contracts to pitchers. With injuries to pitchers I can understand that one.
-
I don't disagree. I'm just don't think it's guaranteed to be better just because there is a new owner.
-
We'll see how Cohen spends in a couple of years when the financial breaks and initial attention wanes.
-
This is a point that David Samson talks about in his podcast. Owners get massive tax breaks and financial advantages for 5 years after buying a team. So many of them spend early. It's how they spend after that that really shows what there spending habits will be.
-
But what makes you think said billionaire is going to just spend like crazy? It isn't the norm for baseball franchises.
-
This brings us to a point I stated in another thread. If all of these owners are considered being cheap, JR, Orioloes, seattle..... Why are so many people convinced that the next White sox owner will be drastically different? It's not like JR is the only owner that everyone is considered cheap. don't get me wrong, I would love to see the next owner spend like crazy. But what are the odds that will happen with the trend in baseball?

All depends if they changed his mechanics, if they were non-contact injuries. -

Probably. It's going to be similar to what the Cubs tried in the 70s with 3 inning pitchers. There just isn't enough good pitching. So the alternative is to let the the mediocre ones throw as hard as they can until their arm is tired. The pitch clock will hasten this change by making the outings even shorter as the pitchers can't rest between pitches and they will fatigue faster.
