  1. Long rehab time must be a significant herniation and they need to do an open procedure versus a microdiscectomy.
  2. The question is how much prospect capital a team is willing to use vs. money. This cost the dodgers both but most teams aren't going to do that. Baltimore is interesting that they have such a low budget that they need to keep prospects to be competitive in the future. But don't have quite enough to put them over the top yet.
  3. Since this is Getz first year in the job there is no historical evidence either way. Until we have a body of evidence of his work, I'm not going to assume that he is competent or not. I'll base my view on evidence not assumptions that may be biased. It's the researcher in me. I'm just pointing out that someone on his staff probably has some inside knowledge of a pitcher he has know for a decade and it may have influenced the decision. So far he has said one of his goals was to improve team defense. He has definitely done that. We'll see where he goes from here.
  4. OK. From your comments it sounded like they were criticizing the Sox for the ridiculous asking price.
  5. You don't think Katz has some inside info on him, with the way he pitched the last if years? Obviously you should always assume. The new GM is wrong.
  6. Two Cubs fans criticizing what the Sox are doing? I don't believe it.
  7. Or does Katz know something that kept the team away from him?
  8. I agree. A salary cap along with a floor would really help the game. Unfortunately the union will never go for it.
  9. That would help then. Let's hope it's true.
  10. Or the price for Cease goes down because the dodgers are no longer in the bidding. Could go either way.
  11. Unfortunately, it is what's needed. Just like any job, people get complacent during their employment.
  12. People like to think it's new. But mlb has ways been this way. Where did the Yankees get players like Ruth and Maris. From other teams.
  13. At least he is picking up players that are really good at something. Most of the previous players were below average at everything.
  14. Or does this mean that Cease is not going there because they could t get a deal where he was included?
  15. The second UCL reconstruction is a big worry. There is a really good chance he won't be the same pitcher.
  16. Yep. The the whole organization is run that way. And everyone of them believe it.
  17. Anytime you can get 4 quality arms back, it can't be too bad.
  18. That would have been fun. Not sure I could handle the criticism though. ?
  19. DeBartolo and Steinbrenner owned the racetracks, except Arlington in the 89s and 90s until Fast Eddie got caught. They were a fun group to work for but to say they had ties is putting it lightly.
  20. Pat Croce started out as the PT and rehab coordinator for the Flyers. Then opened a bunch of PT clinics and mage enough to buy the 76ers. Should have gone in with him early on
  21. Why would someone do this if they didn't need to? Its smart business if you can get someone else to foot that bill. It's the politicians fault for agreeing to it.
  22. How many of the other teams fans do you think believe are putting out a good product? Most cities i travel to believe their owners suck and don't do enough for their fans. I'm not saying JR is doing a good job. I'm just saying that to believe a new owner is just going to magically change everything maybe unrealistic. One of my favorites is not an owner but coach. Mike Tomlin has neve had a losing season and people outside of Pittsburgh love him as a coach. In Pittsburgh the fans can't wait to get rid of him and think he s holding the team back and never has them prepared. Perspective.
  23. I asked this in another thread. Do people really think that some one is going to buy the Sox and spend the team into the red? Owners just don't do that. The teams that spend well over the luxury tax are the highest revenue teams which cover that deficit. Owners spend in the first 5 years due to the tax breaks but then it slows down. Look at Cohen. Last season everyone was going crazy with "look at how he was spending." It's already slowed and the Mets are a much higher revenue team. I just don't see anyone buying the team and the situation being much different. People will hate the next billionaire as well. Until they win.
