QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Wasn't that the same injury Peavy had? (albeit I believe Peavy completely tore his) Close. Peavy tore the tendon off the bone so it required surgery to reattach it. This looks like a partial tear in the muscle itself. The healing process should be interesting. I think it will be longer than 10 days.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 1, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) I assume you mean DB(Jackson) unless I missed something that happened to Cohen between the combine and the draft Yes. Hit the wrong key.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) That Trubisky trade is so dumb. They gave up THREE additional picks to move up ONE spot when it wasn't even certain that SF would take him or that there was a better offer for that pick. Trading additional picks is the last thing the Bears should be doing right now. Putting all their chips into Trubisky when they have so many other needs is absolutely baffling to me. If you go by the "points chart" that most teams use, those three picks equal a second round pick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) At the very least, it allows the Bears not to rush Trubisky. They weren't going to win anything anyway in 2017. Free agency was quantity not quality. They are playing for 2018, and probably at least one of Pace/Fox won't be there, maybe both. This is the key. They drafted for 2018 so you would assume the Bears ownership told Pace he will be back for at least that time. The first two picks need at least 1 year before they will be ready. The RB may need the year to recover from the injury.

QUOTE (pablo @ May 1, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) Not sure where you are getting that I don't believe Tim is a SS, but I guess you can spin it how you like. He's a very good SS who is already premium at the position. In case you missed it, Sox are in a rebuild and should be acquiring the best talent possible and if that means you duplicate a few positions and figure out where everyone plays later then that is what you do. Only point I am trying to make. Tim's athleticism is an asset to the organization in this regard. Trea Turner was a SS "Full Stop" until June last year, played about a week of games in CF, and then transformed a struggling Nats team and took them to the playoffs. I'm guessing you would have kept him in the minors all last year at SS though. That's only because they had no other options and they didn't really move him around, they left him there. They traded for Eaton to get him out of the CF and back to SS. They isn't a move him around.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) By the advanced metrics TA has been already worth about 11 runs better than average, including .7 this year, as a MLB shortstop. TA is a SS. Full stop. "Positional Flexibility" is great, but so is an above average defense MLB SS. You don't take a young kid you is really good at one of the most important defensive positions and move him around. That is for the marginal defensive guys at the corner positions.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) I think Adams is going 2 actually. I can't justify taking a non-elite S that high. That's possible. If so, they should take Lattimore or Thomas. I would still go Lattimore.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) I hope they take Watson just to see the meltdown. I have no issue with that............if it's the 2nd first round pick after they trade up. If it's the 3rd pick in the draft, I understand it but that is a risky pick.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Best case scenario for me. Bears take Adams and then trade up into the first to get a QB. Great minds......
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I think the Bears end up with Solomon Thomas. He's my favorite player in the class but I think they'd love to move down. I sticking with Adams or Lattimore. (Then a trade up into the latter part of the first round to grab one of the QBs.) The second part is wishful thinking.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) I guess you missed the point of the post. Well OK the White Sox might go into a season long dive like last year and Swarzek might blow up like Albers. That is one way to look at it. My own view is that our bullpen is deeper this year than last, there are reinforcements available in the minors that we didn't have last year, and most importantly, Renteria actually knows how to use a bullpen. This is a different Manager, a different team, and a different season. My own opinion is that the Sox are better right now than they were at the same time last season, regardless of the record or Matt Albers. No I got the point. It's just that all of your points are based on the first 20 games. At this times last year the Sox had a better record than the cubs and Matt Albers could not be scored upon. In other words don't count on these Sox being any better than last year because it's too early and the same thing could happen. It may not but it's far to early to make the claims that you're making.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) I turned 17 about a month into my freshman year. I turned 18 just before I started my freshman year. Luckily, the drinking age was still 18 in Wisconsin.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) For sure, but didn't he notoriously push Sale past 120 last year in April? edit: was 120 exactly, on May 7th. What start was that, 5 or 6? I don't think that is too aggressive. Heck, I think Gonzalez was over 100 in his second start this year. It will be interesting to see how sale does this year. He has been over 100 in every start.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) Renteria is really a breath of fresh air: Good to see he's thinking about the long haul. I never liked seeing Q and Sale over 100 or so pitches early in the year. By their 4th start the TOR guys should be going over 100. If you keep all of the pitchers that low, the bullpen will be useless by the all-start break.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) It wreaks of authoritarianism. Remember, those planes own you. I appreciate the military, but a bought and paid for demonstration of military might is kind of silly, IMHO. The flyovers aren't bought. I also prefer to think that those planes protect you but it's all in your point of view.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) some background reading on that "paid patriotism" http://deadspin.com/these-teams-earned-the...d-pa-1740567338 Good for the teams for getting creative revenue streams. Although, if you notice not one mention of the flyovers. I don't think these are actually included. From the article it's only the on field type tributes. I don't think Bernstein was going for his "military advertising" bent, I think it is just is anti-authoritarian speil.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) Recently we have been too good at leading the league in DERP. Is that from eating too much spicy food? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) He hates it because most of Military acknowledgement in the NFL is staged and paid for. He goes overboard a lot but that point is part of a larger complaint he has I know I've heard his spiel before. Doesn't make for good sports talk.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Fans are looking for excuses concerning their last place prediction for this years White Sox. Let me suggest some that I use.. Renteria is one of the best while Ventura may have been the worst Manager in MLB. Leury Garcia was a largely unknown commodity and nit used properly last season. This year he looks good as a CF (glove and arm) and as a switch hitter. No one predicted Avi Garcia would have the kind of sustained success he has had thus far. Sale only started on out of every five games, and he didn't win 'em all. No Matt Albers in the bullpen this year. Swarczak has been lights out, Holland and Shields have been decent. Our catchers have been a plus offensively and defensively. I think tanking is off the table, at least for now. Albers was lights out at this time last year.

don't listen to 670 much anymore but figured with the draft coming up I would tune in to see their view on the what the Bears might do. As soon as I tuned in i heard Bernstein say, "the NFL continues Red Square style military flyovers." Really? Usually 1 or 2 aircraft flying over a stadium wreaks of communism? good thing I tuned in there to remind me why I don't listen.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) So Q is in line for a win...... Now you take him out. Before with the ND, I would have try to stretch him to 115-120 pitches to try to get the win. -
