  1. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Yes. I'll add the Anderson callup to the DO SOMETHING category, as there's a definite downside if it doesn't work out that's been covered here very well. But it also has upside too. The Shields trade was just garbage. I think we're gonna be hating that for a long time. I hope not. If so, they both should be fired. I hope they they did it because they think he is ready.
  2. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) There's a difference between making smart moves and making moves for the sake of making a move. Shields was a "DO SOMETHING!" move that probably won't help the team all that much. Erik Johnson and Latos could've done Shields' job at a fraction of the cost. Morneau is a smart move that has a chance of actually helping the team. He's older and coming off of an injury, but will probably be more productive than Avi after his rehab stint. That remains to be seen. He has a better track record than either of them.
  3. QUOTE (MEANS @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) I can't take you seriously when you keep spelling this word like this. I understand. I've never been good with the written word. I have to give my research articles to many different people before I can submit them.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) One of my friends has a 25 year old daughter living at home with no prospects of moving out cause she can't find a good job. I do feel the pain of Millenials in a lot of ways. They are inheriting a work force that a.) does not want to pay them medical benefits. b.) that does not want to ever give them performance bonuses or heaven forbid, raises in pay according to merit. c.) that requires overtime with no overtime pay, basically threatening them with termination if they don't play along and do the work for no extra pay and finally d.) they are the generation that in college was expected to do unpaid internships which should be illegal. If somebody does work, they deserve pay. So I ask ... can we blame Millenials for moving back in with mom and dad? Are there any hope for millenials that don't become doctors in terms of them ever making a fair, decent buck? Best wishes to all new grads BTW and best of luck in finding suitable employment! Also I would like to ask those Soxtalkers who have a say in management of their companies ... do you have unpaid internships and what is your justification for having kids come in and work for NO PAY? Unpaid internships anger me beyond no end. Pay The Worker, don't hide behind the fact it's an internship. This has always been the practice in allied health professions. The clinical instructor mentoring the student doesn't get extra pay and the student doesn't either. The theory is that the time spend mentoring is time away from patiet care so the student is costing the company money already.
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 27, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Yeah if you don't get a scholarship, paying for two years of CC isn't terrible but the kids need to bust their asses so they can get scholarships. I had a scholarship and still had to take out loans. My sister got a scholarship and still had to take out loans. College is just too damn expensive these days. It's a big business now. Yes, you can thank most states for decreasing their funding. Private schools have always been expensive.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) Our front office is behaving like they're in danger of losing their jobs. Whether they actually are can be debated, but they've shown all the telegraphs of a desperate group since the Shields trade. Do you really thinks that's it or are they trying to improve a team that isn't playing well? If making moves is desperate, what would say if they didn't make any moves?
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) Alex Call, Ball State OF. Not on the top 200 for MLB Of course, he is the first guy drafted that MLB doesn't have an immediate scouting report on.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) You've said in the past, "If you smoke pot, you will get cancer." You know that is not true. I'm all for education, but please use facts & accurate info. I've never said cancer, I've said you will have a heart attack and is true. It's like saying if you smoke tobacco you will get lung cancer. Is it 100%, no but It is most likely to happen. Same with pot and coronary heart disease leading to a heart attack.
  9. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Well, according to the coroner it did not. You have an agenda against pot. I don't have an agenda. Just want to educate. Edit: Let me re-phrase that. I have an agenda is to educate about the health issues. People can do what they want to but they also need to understand there are some health issues. It's like tobacco on PEDS. It's not a direct killer. As far as the coroner is concerned there have been many studies since the time. I think he would change his mind at this point, like many others thought at that time.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) But didn't his family also have a history of heart attacks at early ages? Yes, that was a contributing factor as why it was so early as well. His was so young that there were alot of risk factors that contributed.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Marijuana had nothing to do with Kile's death. Yes, it did. The coronary heart disease was off the charts for a guy his age.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) Eaton Melky Frazier CaGo/Bruce Abreu Lawrie Navarro Jackson Anderson Who loves that lineup? *raises hand* I think you leave Jackson at 2 where he's been hitting well.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) I thought I had heard about the NCAA changing up those rules recently. Am I wrong about that? Could be. I don't keep up on that as much.
  14. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) No, the challenge for young players is hitting ML pitching. Just about all of them can field their positions well by the time they get called up. Marcus Semien says hello.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Wonder how Latos took it They are patching the drywall as we speak.
  16. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) I've heard this before, but not any indication on what's considered "consistent." As in, number of times per week, over how long of a time period? And is it only current use, or cumulative effect of a lifetime? Also, I thought one of the issues with marijuana being schedule I was that we couldn't do a lot of studies on it? Or does this information come from outside the US? Anyone who thinks there aren't negative side effects to weed is either an idiot or ignorant. But being able to research the actual effects is important. The research studies are mostly done with the THC as a chemical. There is also clinical evidence such as studies on people who die young from heart attacks. An athlete example was Darryl Kile from the Cardinals who died during his playing career from a heart attack.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) I'm not too worried about Anderson's bat skills transferring. I just hope his defense is ready It's the hitting worries for me. Lots of Ks.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Unbelievable. (had to be done) Excellent!
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) LOL I will make sure to give Kenny his credit when Tim performs well. Both of them.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Hahn ain't f***ing around. Guess this is a move people like. If he struggles will people blame KW for bringing him up too soon as a typical KW move.

    Music and more Music

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) I'd rather see the Ass Ponys. Butthole Surfers were a fun concert back in the day.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) He hasn't signed yet though. Just agreed to terms which is great. I don't think he could actually play for Miami this weekend otherwise. Hadn't though of that you're right. He can't even have an "agent" yet just an "advisor."
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) If it plays well, it will be awesome, because not only does he look like an awesome movie casting of a baseball player, but also swings like gary Sheffield which is how every kid my age tried to swing growing up. There's a really bad joke there somewhere.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) One of things that worries me is I really hope this isnt another move of urgency from the FO. Rushing a guy up who you arent totally sold into being ready just because you think he may bring some offense to the team is so dangerous. This kid cannot be thought to be the savior here. He might be wanting to be the savior knowing that the team is struggling which is overwhelming for a young kid. Even for the best of the best prospects in the league. As I said earlier, I agree. Let's hope this is because they truly think he is ready.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Yeah, we have to keep that in mind though and hope to see adjustments in september. Let's just keep special attention to teh times where his fast hands adjust mid pitch to make contact with the ball. Also, it seems he struggles for a month or so at each level and then starts to adjust. It may be longer at the top level, so let's hope his confidence stays with him.
