  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Doesn't make any sense. You send down the starting 3b? And if he isn't the starter, why was he staring for 3 straight games. Not to mention the useless Bonifacio is on the roster. He's started to see how he does in case they trade some of the others as well as to give other starters rest. RV obviously doesn't care for Bonifacio's play for some reason.
  2. QUOTE (ottawa_sox @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) Perhaps this photo captures the beginning of the extended 'pose' he has previously featured. His foot may land yet before he begins his acceleration process. His weight is too far forward for that. If it is than his entire upper body is lagging behind.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) The picture worries me a bit. His hand is to full elevation before his foot hits the ground. This means the arm will start to accelerate without lower body support. The beginning of the acceleration is all arm. Not usually a good way to protect the arm. I wonder if the back issue is keeping him from complete rotation? It doesn't look like that from the picture though.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) Makes you wonder why alcohol wouldn't be included. I think the deciding factor was legality. That may be part of it. But baseball put it in the CBA specifically. They aren't required to test for it due to its legality. The NBA doesn't.
  5. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Can't tell if you are joking or not. I'm not. I believe it's considered a drug of abuse due to it's addictuve properties. Baseball put it on the list due to the number of players who use it and it's health hazzards it imposes with regular use. Guys like Darryl Kyle who die from heart attacks in their 30s really shook up baseball.
  6. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Can Rockies players get suspended for smoking dope? Its f***ing legal in their own howntown. I believe so. It's part of their contract with the CBA. Their are plenty of examples of this in drug policies. For example, caffeine is banned during many international competitions such as the World Cup events and the Olympics.
  7. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) Wow. Marijuana is considered a drug of abuse. That is insane. It is because of it's addictive properties.
  8. QUOTE (Greyone @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) And Bear fans will never let go of their one Super Bowl victory... we get it... move along... this topic is so nauseating, nothing anybody else says is going to change any ones opinion... I'm not really sure how it got here. All I said was that since KW won JR his coveted world series, he has a job for life. He's not the GM but he is still in the organization. He is the most successful GM the team has had. He is not going anywhere even though he isn't the GM. I never said I agreed with the decision but JR will keep him around.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Why would a team trying to contend trade away one of their starters? Same thing with the Jays and Travis, I am not sure any GM out there is willing to make his lineup worse to get a SP its just robbing Peter to pay Paul. If I am dealing with the Twins I want a SS (Polanco or Gordon) and Adam Brett Walker. Because pitching is more important than hitting, especially in the playoffs.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) I think Oduya needs to come back more from just a depth perspective. The D corps start to look scary when he is removed from the lineup. Agreed. Someone needs to play the blue line.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Great post. I know it's off topic but I was against the Melky signing from the beginning. Cheater in the past who would be a utility player at best if not for the cheating years. I wish they'd clean house. Everybody but me thought firing Ozzie would do wonders. That did nothing because a lot of bad baseball people remain aboard. What does this have to do with KW. RH is the GM who signed him. By most accounts KW focuses more scouting new talent as opposed to signing players. Unless we go back to the discussion of RH being an idiot to take a job where someone else has all of the power of your job.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) So no "What have you done for me lately?" managing of this organization by JR? That's strange. I mean, ask Kenny and Rick yourself, and they'll gush about Reinsdorf's "competitive spirit" - you know, that same spirit that compelled him to go above and beyond this winter to sign the Great Melky Cabrera. The two of them couldn't shut up about it at the time of the signing. However, if JR is as competitive as those two say, then your assertion that Williams stays as long as he wants, results be damned, cannot be true. He should be demanding and expecting better results than he's been receiving for quite some time now. If he is content with that one championship and therefore prioritizes his loyalty to those who brought him that one championship, then yes, your assertion is most definitely true. Again, I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm going on how he has historically treated executives in the past such as Krause, Schueler, and others. I think that KW earned enough respect from JR that he has a job as long as he wants it. He is no longer the GM. He does more scouting and other things which is what KW always claimed he enjoyed more.
  13. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) another one disloyal to the organization I see. your name has been forwarded to the proper authorities. Yes. Because those are the only options, loyal, disloyal.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) Since 2008 or so, they've been one of the worst franchises in baseball. No ifs, ands or buts about it IMO. OK. Everyone in entitled to their own view.
  15. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) Is this meant to be a compliment to Kenny or a very damning (yet deserved) critique of all of his predecessors? Neither. Just stating that since he won a world series for JR, he will be with the organization aslong as he wants. Howver, it could alsobe both of your suggestions.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) And that's helped contribute to the Sox becoming one of the worst franchises in all of baseball. Any other franchise would have let go of KW, not promoted him. But Jerry sleeps with his 2005 baseball every night. I wouldn't be too sure of that. There are many franchises that keep executives around in lesser roles. IMO the Sox are far from one of the worst franchises in baseball. However, as I stated, he isn't going anywhere until he decides it's time.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) And George Herbert Bush was the best president the Bush's ever produced. I'm not saying he's right. It's just that KW brought JR his championship in his beloved sport of baseball. The only way KW leaves the organization is when he wants to leave. Regardless of what fans think, KW accomplished this and will be with the Sox.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) Pretty easy to always stand up and take responsibility for continuous failures when it is seemingly clear at this point that there will be no ramifications whatsoever from above. Especially when you are the most successful executive the team has ever had.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Why did they leave Webb in? How we win 4 games in a row is beyond me How have we won as many games as we have is beyond me, its a miracle. You lollygag to first, you lollygag in the outfield. You know what that makes you, LOLLYGAGGERS. Edit: sorry I thought we were doing movie quotes.
  20. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/pr...6afa1d2a12.html The Sox should hire him. Looking at their track record, he knows how to scout talent.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) but in that time of the fiery tempered manager, this team would have been turned around and/or players who would be identified would be gone. a fiery manager can change his way of working with players, later. No. a fiery manager cannot get rid of players anymore than a calm one. Either manager must go to the GM. A fiery manager cannot change his way of working with players anymore than a calm manager. Either one can change tactics. The only difference is that some players will respond better to one than the other. I think it's been shown that most players of today do not respond as well to an old school fiery manger and respond better to a "players coach."
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/gm-jerry-dipo...-215115777.html According to Passan, Scioscia is the last "all encompassing power" manager left in the game today, with LaRussa gone. OK
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) I don't care if the manager is deaf and blind. All I want is a team prepared to play on a daily basis. This team is not that. I agree. I'm just saying that the "type" or "style" doesn't matter. Picking one based on that shouldn't be a high priority. Although teams often do that, especially in baseball when they spend so much time together.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) and at that time, the most visible change will be, outside the FO, the manager. i keep saying this, i would really want a fiery manager at this time. shake up the team. That's fine but it probably won't help. All types of managers win, calm, fiery, screamers, micromanagers. Just because it's different from the current one doesn't make it better. Just because it's what the fans want doesn't make it better. And one thing we know about fiery managers/coaches is that they have a strict shelf life.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 12:28 AM) Recently read an article about common traits of millionaires. The author argued that the most important individual trait was decisiveness (not stubbornness). The article also argued that decisive "leaders" are very hesitant to change that decision (once made) and don't waver or waffle or reverse their decision until they've patiently and carefully weighed every possible factor that went into the original decision. If the front office is 100% behind Robin Ventura, then they should give him a contract extension and shut up the media and the blogosphere. From what little glimpses we've had from KW/Hahn on this topic, it seems to be the exact opposite of decisiveness. There is no correlation between being a driven business millionaire and being a good baseball executive. They are not out to make money at all costs they are there to evaluate and accumulate good baseball players. Ventura just signed an extension. There is absolutely no reason to sign another, even if this team was playing well. Who cares what the media says. The worst thing they could do is run the team based on media reaction. Well, maybe not the worst. The worst may be listening to fans. You're arguments are really starting to get away from anything baseball and are starting to sound personal. They are getting more creative but stick to the baseball reasons.
