QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:18 AM) Lots of the bad drafting is also on Jerry Reinsdorf too though. Kenny likes tools, athletic types. JR didn't like draft spending though. That's how you end up with the Jared Mitchell's and Keenyn Walkers of the world. Jerry would much rather pay guys like Juan Pierre $5 million than put that cash into the draft. That has changed since the slotting system but it shouldn't have taken that for you to draft well. This is not true. KW drafted safe players such as Broadway and McCullough and people on this board comolained and wanted him to draft the high risk but high reward players to try to get a superstar. His draft phiosophy changed a d now people complain about it. The bottom line is that its just bad drafting with the wrong platers regardless of philosophy. Edit: sorry for the double post.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 12:50 AM) Well this makes me just want to plunk down money to watch this or any team. http://chicago.suntimes.com/baseball/7/71/...ank-beers-games Typical AJ. Don't let him make you think that most ballplayers are like that. There are some but not that many. Starting pitchers on off days, yes. Position players and bullpen, no.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) How? How exactly do you make things worse? If Angels don't come back we will have worst winning %age in the AL after tonight. How do you make things worse than "worst team in the league"? I guess we could have a squirrel jump onto Sale in the dugout but I don't think the team Pres going would cause that. If you think hahn is struggling to do a good job, and it sounds like you do, it would be even harder if he had more responsibility placed upon him without KW to help. It may not be directly on the field tomorrow but it would show up moving forward.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) would you really say he wasn't loyal or that he didn't listen to anyone and ran the bull as a coach should, without interference from upper management. now i am not disputing his way of coaching or the result of his style of coaching. I would say he wouldn't listen to any advice by upper management or training staff. The coach and management should at least be on the same page on how to run a team. They don't need to completely agree but should have the same philosophy. If not, one needs to go, usually it's the coach. This isn't saying one is right or wrong just that they cannot be that different and co-exist.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) excuse me, but what isn't true, the rebuild stopping or the insiders story. The insiders story. different "insiders" seem to have conflicting "who is at fault KW or RH."
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) you make a good point, the baseball insiders said all this while it happen until spring training. i guess, some of us, are very pessimistic and we saw how it stop. in addition we as fans had to see the yrs of futility coming from the sox org. so as the only point i can say, for me, i was not sold on it being finished. unlike many others including the so called insiders. if they were really the insiders, then they of all people should have known this. Unless it isn't true.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) Everyone seems to know but you. The media insiders know it and this is the writer who finally says it. I think even Kenny as GM had little control when it came to firings. I have no doubt Kenny would have fired Ozzie but JR got in the way and none of that nonsense would have happened. All of the baseball insiders were praising the moves of Rick Hahn this off season. Most of them said he was second in "winning" the off season. not one mention about how KW did this off season. So, I guess only radio show hosts and posters here know the inside information.

I find it interesting how people decide to assign blame. When the offense was awful before it wad Walkers fault and everyone wanted him fired. I haven't seen Steversons name once. Not that I think Ventura is doing well, its just odd about how some on this board decide it's one persons fault and attack relentlessly.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) I'd still be pretty surprised if he's not the manager next year as well. They want him to be the manager it seems. Bruce Levine said today that from the intel he's gathered, "they're going to fire the players". Should be interesting at least. This is really what should happen as it is truly the players fault. However, it is very difficult to do. You're right it should be interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) This sounds really cool. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--mlb-...-154837850.html The issue with this type of system is accuracy. Since there are ni markers a person, usually a low paid intern, must manually put the markers onto the video. Its really difficultto put the markers in the same exact spot each frame. It needs to be done thousdans of times for each video and angle.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Heard a rumor that Robin will also miss a three game series in August when the carnival is town. Both he and Hahn think it is important that he spends time with his family. And everyone knows it is tough to get from the teacups to the ballpark, without first swinging by the funnel cake stand.... so you might as well make a weekend of it. Priorities in life. Speaking of someone who has a daughter, Carnivals and daughters are two of the ones at the top.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Hitters that hit consistently well at AAA more often than not hit at MLB when given enough of a chance. Now, there absolutely can exist a fatal flaw in a hitter that's not exposed enough in AAA but is in the majors, but I stand by it that more often than not, they'll hit. more often than not may be the case. Especially if you go by 51% to 49% being the more often than not. However, I think in today's game many of them don't get enough of a chance. Hitters have to nearly come out of the gate hitting or there is not much patience.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) An underrated bad part of it was trading Phegley. I hate this 4A crap. Hitters that hit at AAA more often than not end up hitting at MLB. There have been many hitters who look good in AAA but can't hit in the MLB.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) And Chapman, who Don Cooper will reconvert into a starter by teaching him the Jason Bere foschball as an offspeed offering. That was an awesome pitch to watch.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) I was gone 3 days for my sister's graduation, showing my lack of commitment for my company. I went on a vacation and got Montezuma's revenge the last day. I called in sick the day I was supposed to return to the clinic. It was against company policy to take a sick day either before or after a vacation day so I was docked a day's pay.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 02:15 AM) I don't hate RV at all. In fact, if I met RV I would shake his hand vigorously and say "you were one of my heroes and my pops loved you too; way to work back from that horrific injury you had". That said, dude is in the .0001% of dads that can take 3 days off work for graduation and nobody gives a f***. Lot of working class dads out there that would love to do the same. You don't know jack s*** about anyone here bro. Presume what you're gonna presume, but don't get it twisted many of us raising a ruckus here are about as far from "meatball" as it gets. Go ahead with your one liners tho, they go over great with the meatball crowd. You ever seen your pops cry because he has to work and he can't be with you? I certainly have. RV should wake up every day thanking his creator he gets to take 3 days off for his daughter's graduation. I've seen the tears in my working class father's eye when he had to go away from his family. You want to tell me, and others, about what it means to be working class and sacrifice everthing and anything for your kids? Get real man. A baseball player/manager/staff spendsalot more time away from his family than any "working class" father. It's an extremely difficult life for a family. It's why most of us get out, once you get a family. I do not begrudge anyone in this situation to spend time with family. Edit: how many birthdays, first days of school and other events he has missed over the years? He has the opportunity and he should take it.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:52 AM) And we did this with Ozzie's kid (eventually moved to the AV department), but at least he was a marginally capable baseball player. This situation is no different than when we drafted Schueler's daughter, although she was probably a better athlete than Reinsdorf's grandson. True. However, as I said this was one possibility as to why he was drafted.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) There is a 0% chance the Reinsdorf kid is signed, so I have no idea what you're talking about. I've seen it done when I was with the Marlins. I think it was Dombrowski's relative. I'm not saying it's necessarily going to happen but I've seen before.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) Again, most fathers are not public faces of multi billion dollar operations. Here, go on one of your google hunts Southsider, what other managers have taken two, three day breaks during their tenure for graduations. Good luck, don't think you'll find many. Forget RV, he never even wanted the job in the first place I'm not going to cut him any slack. He's getting paid damn well he can take my abuse on a message board. EDIT: only thing I could find was Bud Black, who yea, didn't miss 3 days: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=2010...b&fext=.jsp Wow. There are no words for a response to this post.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) I'd be shocked if he ever saw a professional pitch as a player, ever. The odds are about as close to zero as they are for me winning the powerball. Probably not but it's the experience in clubhouse, roadtrips etc. that they are looking at.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Oh okay. This makes sense. Or maybe he'll start taking PEDs and turn into a player like Tommy Lasorda's godson Mike "milkshake" Piazza.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 05:55 PM) I don't think he was actually on the baseball team. That is at least my understanding. Right. It's just a way for him to get to understand the entire business. Like an executives kid starting in the mailroom even though everyone knows he will be an executive soon.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) Winning a dundy? And no, it's not a huge deal, I just don't get where the advantage is even for the kid. I think it has more to do with the experience. He is probably going to play for a little while so he sees what it's like and what the other ballplayers are like. Then he will transition out of the playing side and into a front office or scouting.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) 100% agree. He gives the Sox a better chance to win when he's out there, and therefore, should be playing more than Flowers. You need to take the pitcher's performance into consideration. Do the pitcher's pitch better with flowers? I don't know the answer but you seem to only look at the offensive production of each.
