  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) Here's numbers for the 3 previous seasons. Nothing seems particularly drastically odd about the Bulls, even with guys like Hamilton piling up the injury days. That was written at the end of last season. So that means that it included 2 years of Thibs coaching, correct?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) Do you count Rose or not? I would count all injuries just like they did for the MLB study. I don't following the NBA close enough to get a gauge on it. There just seems to be a lot of injuries with the Bulls. I haven't done anything with the NBA since the early 90's and most of my friends have left the league.
  3. QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Getting sick of watching the shell of this team. f*** injuries I would like to see how the Bulls compare to the rest of the league in injury days like we saw for the Sox. They may come a time where people start to question the " win each game at all cost" philosophy of Thibs. Basketball is a high energy game and there may be a point of pushing to hard and have the team tire out or become too injured.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) I always thought it was the hamate bone. I remember Jose Canseco did that, as well. When did they report their initial misdiagnosis? peeepl.com/people/elia-hamate/ - 翻译此页您已公开地对此项 +1。 撤消I thought it was ugly, ... The Elias Sports Blog: Remember Carlos Quentin. Part of it could be the hamate bone surgery he had last year which saps a lot of power. Carlos Quentin broke his hamate bone last year in the middle of an MVP season Not sure when or where that was posted but as far as I know it was the scaphoid which needed surgery which was why the screw needed to be inserted. With the hamate it's just removed.

    Snowmageddon 2013!

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) In general, we're a lot more worried about kid's safety/transportation issues, which is always a positive. Buses don't exactly cruise through the snow. It's also a lot easier to make a call and cancel it based on forecast and allow families to plan. If the kids are going to be home, you may need to stay home from work, find a babysitter, etc. It's a lot easier to do that night before or really early in the morning instead of playing chicken with them figuring out whether to cancel or not. It's also not too easy to have them get into school, have them call it an early dismissal day, and you either need to pick them up from school, or again, make arrangements for someone to be home for them after their long bus ride home. It's snowing right now, apparently places will get 4-8 inches and the worst part will be in the afternoon for the ride home. I don't really understand how canceling is such a "wussification" issue. Alot of it is the child care issue. The are lot more dual income families now then "back then." The stay at home parent is not the norm anymore so there needs to be more planning otherwise they will all complain to the school about not being able to get childcare in time. That being said cancelling school before the snow even starts is ridiculous. We found out at 6pm last night and snow did not start falling here until 8am. There still isn't much on the roads and the school day is about 1/2 over.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) Except it really did seem to affect Carlos Quentin. He was never the same hitter with us as in that 2008 season before the hand injury. He fractured the scaphoid which is a bone on the other side of the wrist. That is a much bigger deal as it is one of the keystones for the wrist motion.
  7. See the comments in his AAP. Not a big deal.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Why not do this in the offseason? Because the loose bone fragment from when the hook breaks could tear or cut the ulnar nerve. He would then lose the use of his 4th and 5th digits on his hand. The fragment needs to be removed ASAP to prevent this.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal #Yankees GM Cashman suffered broken rt fibula and dislocated rt ankle during parachute jump to raise awareness for Wounded Warrior Project. The "Ventura" injury. He should be able to generallly manage in about a week. If the owner can talk him into it and he isn't coaching high school sports.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Right hamate bone removed. Out 6 weeks. Easy to recover from. Just need to let the bone heal so it doesn't injure the ulnar nerve as it goes through the tunnel of guyon of the the hook of the hamate (the part they remove) makes up one of the sides. About 1/3 of all MLB hitters have this done at one time or another.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) At least it isn't a shoulder problem. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/ This could be almost as bad as far as how long it takes to return to throwing. The "groin" strains can last a while for pitchers as they really need to abduct the hip when they step toward the plate during the pitch. The muscle is really thick (insert joke here) which means it can bleed alot and take a while to heal.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan "I was very happy with my control," said Danks, who touched 89 mph. That is perfect for velocity on the first time out and not looking like he was trying to over throw the FB.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Exactly. If Cutler had the same month and the same result happened for the Bears, and he was given the same contract, most Bears fans would call it a fair deal. Could happen this year.
  14. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) I think that's stretching it the wrong way. What if he cuts up A and AA pitching this year? Many of the really great ones start young. You could be right but I don't think so. I think it's 2015 at the earliest as a regular. I could see him as a Sept call up next year but not starting the season.
  15. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 02:37 AM) Im just saying that he has to rehab his knee one way or the other, not to mention the fact that he could have had a top notch team of trainers helping him along the way. Most people, as was my experience, have to take their own initiative when rehabbing and only get to go to physical therapy a few times a week. He could get therapy on it every day if he wanted and come back strong and healthy, his knee is already trashed so take advantage of your situation, build it back up and come back with some toughness about the situation. JMO Most players even at the MLB level do not stay with the team for their rehab. They go home and go to a clinic like everyone else. Now it's still paid for by the team (I'm sure it's still the case here) and they must go check in occasionally with the team. Very few pro athletes in any sports stay with the team after a season ending injury. Most coaches do not want them around even if the athlete wanted to stay.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I think Mitchell still can be a solid every day player, but he still has A LOT of work to do in order to reach MLB status. One guy who will make an impact as early as next year will be Courtney Hawkins. From everything I am reading and seeing from this kid, he is legit. I think Hawkins will likely take over in LF next year with Viciedo going to 1B. (Assuming PK retires). If Mitchell has a tremendous 2013 down in AAA, he may be able to take over in CF in 2014. The infusion of youth is just about to arrive in the outfield. However, we are one more year away...... I do not think Hawkins will be a regular next year. He is still too raw from the accounts I've heard. Possibly 2015 but that's even stretching it.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) With an Ipod, I haven't been able to convince myself to pay for radio. It's not so much radio as it is the books, old time shows and comedy shows. When you are in the car 3-4 hours a day you need variety.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Chicago sports radio is just torture. B&B is on the top of that list. Really there is nothing out there worth listening too. More than anything I really turn on the music stations or the news station. There is just nothing redeeming about sportstalk in this town. It is either all cheerleading, inside jokes, or lowest common denominator. Sirius/XM radio is the only way to go.
  19. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) Gotta have more mental toughness than that. Injuries are just part of the deal when you play sports. I've blown out both knees in the past 5 years so I know what it's like and I'll tell you that feeling sorry for yourself and quitting doesn't help you heal any faster. Depends on what else there is for you. He may have known that his chances to make the MLB was marginal to begin with and has a family business or something. This happens to many MiLB players. They know they really have no chance for MLB but want to continue to play ball for a living for a little while. It is a great experience. He may have just decided that with essentially taking 2 years off he is too far behind and he is just moving on.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) I still can't find it but I will. Got it!!! Friend of the Devil. Can't believe I couldn't get it.
  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) Oh crap its . Can't believe I missed that one. I still can't find it but I will.
  22. Is #30 a Dead song? I'm pretty sure it is but I'm looking through the albums and can't figure it out.
  23. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) According to Pompei and a lot of other guys inside the NFL a lot didn't get it. Yes, most don't. Like I said, it isn't a league wide thing as they really don't care about it. It was just some of the medical staff that tried. Most of the players think that it is better for them the day after a game to decrease the soreness than a pain killer or pain reliever. They just don't realize how hard it is on their healing process and their cardiovascular system.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) I'd be willing to bet more than a few of Webb's teammates use marijuana on a recreational basis. This would concern me if I was going to keep him on the roster. I know most people don't think marijuana is a big deal but it has a major impact on athletes especially football players. The TCH in it drastically slows down the inflammation and healing process. This is why people can get a medical prescription for it for chronic inflammatory diseases. In football with the beating they take smoking it will slow down their recovery and extend injury times. Many NFL players would use it because it made their soreness the next day less but in reality it extended the problem. It's a short term feel good for long term bad effects. We use to try to educate the players on it and some got it and others didn't. Sometimes there is a reason seemingly minor injuries take extra time to heal.
