QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Am I the only one who would love it if we signed Bonds? Considering some of the other ex-juicers that people want us to trade for, I don't see why so many are upset about his 'roid use. I know it won't happen though, but it's fun to even see it rumored. Yes, you are the only one. He ranks up there with Sheffield as asses for all time. His production is not worth the is not worth it..

This isn't surprising. My wife is an excutive for an insurance company and used to work for St Paul. She said that St. Paul is involved in a lawsuit to determine the cause of the flooding. If it's ruled a flood it's the government's repsosiblity for those who had governement flood insurance. If it's ruled wind damage, the hurricane causing the water to back up then cause the flood, St. Paul could lose around a billion (not including the re-insurance). They are backing out because they don't want to do it again.

Gload should never start for a team. He is one of those guys that thrives in a limited role however if he ever started he would not perform as well. Also his defense in the outfield is atrocious.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Marquette vs. Northwestern State tonight. Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic. I'm hopin' for a good turnout. It's time to start packin' the place. The guys deserve it, with the wins over Texas Tech, Duke, and on the road at Valpo. I know I'll be there. I will live vicariously through you. Go Warriors!!!!!! -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Ya and you can do that without trading for a zillion prospects. I don't understand everyone that thinks we need to get a ton of prospects now or we will suck later. We don't have to move guys. Have you heard the Sox complain about not having the resources to spend 115 million? No, you haven't. We don't have that old of a team, we already have 3 of 6 starters on the right side of 30 and two of ones over 30 are consistent 200 innings a year guys to boot. We have a first baseman, 3rd baseman and SS that should be here a while, we have tons of OF prospects, a young closer and a few relievers under our control for a while. I don't give two s***s about 5 or 10 years down the road because the best way of taking care of 5 years down the road is by fielding a good team now. With that the Sox will be able to have a high payroll and will be able to consistently retool here or there and stay good for a long time. Just look at the Braves, how often did they actually trade there better players for prospects (not often?). They usually let those guys walk from time to time. However, they got draft pick compensation for those guys and were able to develop a player here and there while also making trades for new guys that may be able to fill the holes of the guys that left via FA that may not make as much money. By the way, I should say I'd gladly be the Yankees. They consistently field a team that is capable of winning the world series and thats all I ask. By making some of the trades you guys suggest we destroy our teams chances of winning now and bank on those guys all developing as planned to win later. The odds are not in our favor to win on that theory and thats why you see very few bad teams figure things out and become good. If it were that easy every team in baseball would have small payrolls and consistently dump guys for prospects while still winning. Me too. However, we will never have half the payroll they do so we need to be smarter about it and not getting young players when we can is a sure way to decrease our depth and have a horrible year if you lose someone to FA or injury.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Something to think about with Stewart: The turf he has been playing on is not good for anyone with injuries, especially foot injuries. Playing on a more forgiving field like ours actually reduces the injury risk IMO. True. But I still don't know if I would trust it.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Didn't Magglio use a form of shock therapy when he got his knee treated overseas? there are two forms a low dose used mostly for treating soft tissue and a high dose used for bone. Mags had the high dose version. The difference is that the part of the bone treated in Magg's knee is that it is trying to cause microtraume to stimulate healing in tissue which doesn't heal well, the articular cartilage. In Stewart's case the plantar fascia has a greater capability for healingl.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Nah hes a solid outfielder he always has a good fielding %, its just the injury risk. Word on the twins board is he is looking for some new shock therapy on his injured foot or something. He would be awsome for us if healthy, I would be in favor of a minor league deal, small risk high reward possility. Shockwave therapy while not new is not FDA approved. It is an experimental unit that is gaining popularity in the US. It uses sound wave to create microtrauma to an area that has become scat tissue from chronic inflammation. It essentially causes bleeding in scar tissue to begin a healing process that couldn't start before. Early research is positive.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) In value terms, young quality starting pitching pitching >>>> almost anything else on the diamond. Yes. Because even if you don't need them and if you have needs elsewhere young starting pitching is the best bargaining chip to obtain it. -

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Who cares if it's cheating? Cheating is part of the game. If HOF players were penalized for stealing signs, doing reds & greens, spitballs, etc, we'd have no players left. Everyone is so goddamned self-righteous. Like one of us has never cheated on a test in high school or gone over a speed limit. Give me a break. Win or Die Trying - includes cheating. And if you get caught you should pay the penalty. If you truly believe that cheating is fine and it's win at all costs then you are part of the problem. This is that attitude that breeds the use of steriods. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) With the quiet on the Vazquez front and the declining of Glavine's option...I'd say that the Mets won. I would agree but I think they will still look for more pitchers.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) For God Sakes do not compare the wins for the pitcher when talking about who is better, thanks I still do I know we've has these discussions but pitchers who know when they need to turn it on and when they can take it easy are good veteran pitchers. None of the stats tell the whole story but I don't discount pitchers wins. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) There is a reason why the US govt is not trying Bonds for possession of a controlled substance, it is because at the time the laws likely did not include what he was taking. Therefore any prosecution would be ex post facto. Not to mention Anderson was given a plea bargain for both distribution and money laundering, that only put him in jail for less than a year. If these were big time drugs, the penalty would be much more severe (ie crack, cocaine, etc). Hence why they are trying for perjury. And many atheletes use illegal drugs, that are not "performance enhancing" baseball does not even care really. This is totally false. There were and are laws against what he supposedly took. The only reason they aren't prosecuting is that they can't prove he took them. His girlfriend saw the syringes, Anderson sold him the steroids but they cannot prove he actually took them. Since Anderson is holding out all they have hard evidence on is that he lied to the grand jury about what Anderson sold him and the tax evasion charges about the money he gave the girlfriend. Don't delude yourself he committed federal drug offenses it's just what they can prove in a court of law. As with Al Capone they knew about murder but could only prove tax evasion. Bonds will get convicted of something. Alot of what he gets depends on how the government can convince Anderson that the money Bonds is paying him to be quiet is not worth what they can do to him.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) Yet many will say that Sosa and Big Mac arguably saved baseball from disaster after the strike. I dont like either of them, but you have to give credit where credit is due. The home run chase between Big Mac and Sosa brought people back at a time when baseball was in trouble. Now baseball is fine again, but you cant just forget the people who got you to this point. They never hurt anyone, so i really just cant paint them as villians. Regardless of the fact im not a personal fan. I disagree they saved baseball. In fact they may have hurt baseball. They did bring fans back to baseball, the casual fans. In my opinion this game may have been better if it wasn't making as much money, all of the salaries went down and the players were more humble and had to try to win fans back by being good to the fans. I know none of this will ever happen however I don't think the game would have as much money therefore be so far out of wack if the fans didn't come back as quick. The players should respect what they are getting.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 08:00 AM) i can't stand that we're crying poverty again just like it was 1987. we can't sign dye. we can't sign crede. we have to trade one of our starters. we can't sign any free agents. for crissakes i thought those days were gone after last year. No one said we couldn't sign Crede. With Boras as his agent he will demand a great deal of money and with a budget it would be wise to spread it around to create a better team not a single player. The name of the game is pitching. Now there is no way Boras will agree to an extension to buy out Crede's FA year. That is what is set in stone. NO EXTENSION does not necessarily equate to NO FA CONTRACT, but in all likely hood it will. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) The sad part is, your probably right in all honesty. They should ban Bug Selig for life, he's done a lot worse to the game than Shoeless Joe ever did. Don't go so as to blame only him. The players would've probably considered going on strike if he tried to impose a steroid policy. Remember when the white sox wanted to all skip the test the first year to make sure enough players failed? Remeber when the union told Sosa to not take the test theat some reporters challenged him to take? This couldvery well led to a strike. They are all to blame not just the ownership. They all benefitted and they are all to blame.

Ask your physician if the hyaline cartilage (not the meniscal cartilage) is healthy enough to do light plyometrics on small boxes. This is another great way to build lower extremity muscle strength but with the cartilage problem it may add too much stress to it, so ask your physician first.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) I take it you're a physical therapist and a personal trainer? Or, one, neither? Mmhmm, actually, I'm doing that, too! That's cool, but it IS hard to do because the knee gives out on me sometimes while I do it. I'm a physical therapy and athletic trainer. I've worked in just about every sport imaginable but baseball particularly pitching is still my favorite.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) Thank you Whitewashed and hammerhead. I'm working out for baseball, too. Jobe exercises, mainly, though I'm going to start a modest weightlifting program to strengthen my lower body and somewhat my core. You might get the chance to face me. I'm going to be one of our starters, though, so you might not get to pitch against me (and I might get a DH). If you do, or if I face you -- I'm going to put a baseball between your shoulder blades and point to the sky. And you're going to like it. But if you face me and hit me, the second time we face, I'll take you deep. Centerfield deep. Pansy. By the way, Slav, I'd like to see you sometime relatively soon and work with you on some pitching stuff. the Jobe exercises are good but the Thrower's 10 program developed by Wilk and Andrews is more effective at strengthening the shoulder and elbow. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Injured the knee in September. I've been doing a ton of lateral exercises and using rubber to stretch. I don't know what the program is called but I go downtown for it. Add the box step ups and downs. Tothe front as wellas to the side. This will really strengthening the VMO which controls the activtiy of the patella.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) As some of you might remember, I'd ripped my knee apart in a post-practice accident (Soccer) and ripped everything up. Now that I'm almost at 100%, and have full diagnosis', I thought I'd share what was wrong and what's up. I cracked my femur bone, as well as the kneecap. Not fully, but slightly. (They're waiting to see if my cartilage falls off near the crack and then I'll require surgery.) I tore my menial meniscus. And I sprained every ligament in my knee. Not tore, but sprained them all combined. Not too bad, and the only one giving me substantial trouble is the cracked bone. It goes, Crrrrrrrrk all the time and if I move too fast, it aches like a bad ache. Fun with words. I'm almost fine, though, and I can run as hard as I used to and do all the things I enjoy. I find myself baseball sliding around on tile and merely enjoying my regained abilities. so thanks to everyone who'd been concerned and shared kind words. When did you injure the knee? The creak you are referring to usually comes from the patella. What type of program are using to rehab the patella-femoral joint? I have a great group of exercises I use for my patients if you need them. Good Luck with the rehab

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) If that is the case, he needed to fool some hitters better, not relying on offense so much. I really have trouble believing that people are kicking and screaming about trading Freddy when, he is a year away from walking and getting a raise, his velocity dropped considerably, he b****ed about not getting enough run support and threw teamates under the bus for poor defense, yet people are sainting him as an untouchable. I don't think most people say he is untouchable as a matter of fact he is the one I would trade because of the impending free agency. If anything most people seems to blast and undervalue him during these discussions. -

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Wins mean less when your team has to score 6 and 7 runs to get you those 17 wins. But I guess that is ok since Freddy was better when it really matter in September. He owned the Angels in September. Who cares when he wins them? As long as you pitch well enough to win. Last time I checked the team with the most wins make the playoffs and go on to the World Series. While he didn't have a great year he definately "fooled" enough people to win games.
