  1. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Well there's a reason why physicals are done. I'm definately going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's about 3 months into a 8-9 monthe rehab so he won't be totally healthy. He will be able to hit come ST but I doubt he'll be healthy enough to throw until the season begins.
  2. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) i would think theyd go konerko at 3 to alternate the lefty righty matchups... good point. If Pierre does come here that is likely especially agaisnt LHP.
  3. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) somthing kinda like this maybe if get Pierre. i like i like Pods Pierre Konerko Thome Dye A.J Crede Iguchi Uribe Thome will hit 3rd with Konerko at cleanup
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Yes it does, lets all hope he can be healthy. More than that though I want Kong signed, both would be a dream. Thome is a much better option at DH than Frank at this point anyway. You hunches=Levine Carpet bombing He should be. While the surgery was needed and he is still rehabbing his elbow, it was a routine procedure and he shouldn't have any difficulty coming back without limitations.
  5. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) How has age not come up in this thing? Boras does not put a gun to anyone's head, owners pay the money he wants. Brian Anderson is worth more to everyone except the Yankees. Juan Pierre is not that good. Gammons is an idiot on all things except the Red Sox and music you have never heard of. 1. You're right some owners will pay it, the Sox won't. 2. Gammons' favorite music is the Rolling Stones. Now, I may be old but I have heard of them.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) I don't think he minded it at all. He wasn't to happy when it sounded like he was going to be left off the playoff roster but he didnt care that he was in the pen. If any starter goes it will be him but I think there is a good chance he stays. There were a few newspaper reports that he wasn't happy. But I know from inside that he was very unhappy about it. Now maybe after an off season to think about it and his performance he may have changed his mind. But I doubt it.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Nope. Ozzie, Cooper, Kenny, Jerry,The fans, ect... have all seen what happens when you only have 5 starters. There is no way that 1 of your 5 starters is going to miss some time over the season. Its going to happen. You need to be prepared. From 2001-2004, we were not. We just came off winning the World Series. The days of Danny Wright, Felix Diaz, Arnie Munoz, Josh Steweart, Mike Porzio, and others are over. If you have to have the 4 million dollar man in the bullpen, o' well(looks like the Cubs are going to have a few anyway ) Again, I agree in theory but I don't believe KW will have a 4 mil dollar guy in the bullpen who can only be used with 2 innings notice. Plus, Hernandez wasn't too thrilled about the situation last year. He won't tolerate it for a full year. IMHO one will need to go.
  8. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) I agree Rowand44. By trading Rowand to the Phillies for Thome OR By trading Crede to the Marlins for Pierre You will not lose one of our big pitchers. You could see some minor league talent in the deals but not B-Mac. I also believe Marte has seen his last days in Chicago, but that is just me. I believe KW will try to make deals without involving our pitchers. Pitching won us the ring. This is good in theory but then we have 6 starters. Who isn't starting and what do you do with that person? Does B-Mac go to the minors? He is not suited for the bullpen, he needs two innings notice to warmup. Do you have Hernandez in the bullpen? He has the same issues as B-Mac plus thats over 4 million for a long reliever. I think one of the starting pitchers will go somewhere in a deal.
  9. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I was not saying Mueller > Crede. My biggest fear is that Crede goes to another team and becomes a superstar, but with his agent Joe will leave sooner rather than later. This is true. The Sox may put on a great face but I don't see them giving in to "Boras type" demands. I have been bashed for saying this but I don't believe the Sox will get a deal done with Boras. Which means KW will attempt to get something for Crede either this year or next year.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) You can if you're also going to trade for Juan Pierre. Or if you like Owens better as a prospect than Young because of the lower strikouts and higher average as a top of the order CF.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Bruce on w/ Silvy and Carm now. Thinks a major league pitcher won't have to be involved...but, (get this) says we have some great minor league outfielders like Chris Young and Jerry Owens. Yup, that's it Bruce. Aaron Rowand AND Chris Young for Jim Thome. Survey Says: BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Stick to reporting there Brucey. Let's leave the conjecture out of it. This is the point. He is probably correct that the talks are serious and the names were Rowand and BMAC or Contreras. This was proposed by Phillie. I'm sure KW turned it down but I wouldn't doubt that it happened. His statement of "it won't include a major league pitcher" probably came from the fact he knows KW turned the initial proposal down. The rest is his speculation.
  12. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 06:42 AM) Wood will always be known for being the 20 K guy... The trib sold him to be the next Roger Clemens and he just didn't have it upstairs to get it done... Poor mechanics and abuse by a high school coach didn't help either.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Yeah, Dempster is apparently a really nice guy, and with the revival he had at closer last year after all those injuries of the past, somebody you'd want to root for. Except, he's on the Cubs, what a waste.... He is a great guy. He was with the Marlins when I worked in thier minor league system. He is hilarious with jokes and his antics.
  14. QUOTE(SouthSide2004 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) Here are the facts regarding Levine. He is a pretty good reporter, but he is a huge asshole who hates the White Sox. I don't think people only rip him because of his reports. He's just not a good person. I've met him and he is a pretty good guy. He is a cub fan and doesn't care for the sox as a fan. This does not make him a bad guy. However, on the radio he does get defensive when hosts question him about info and opinions. I remember on one show before the season started he predicted that Garland would lead all chicago starters cubs and sox in wins. The hosts laughed at him and made fun of him. We now know he was right. I think he takes offense to people who aren't digging for the info disregarding what he finds. Again, it does not make him a bad guy.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) I think some people just take everything that someone like Levine says as GOSPEL! Every time there's another rumor by a reporter, there's a 15 page thread about where the person will play (or "where would he play?"). I guess it makes for fun conversation as long as you don't take it too seriously. Ding, Ding, Ding!!!! Exactly. And it is fun to try to guess next year's lineup or staff. It is what gets us through the off season.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) Very true, and he hit into that 1-2-3 double play in Detroit in the last series up there. But as I recall, people were on Ozzie's ass big time for that maneuver, saying there was no way he should've had Blum hit in that situation. My point is, I take issue with the all-or-nothing labeling that goes on at this site. I actually get quite a kick out of the flip-flopping that takes place. It is not easy for me to come on here and defend a Bruce Levine or some of these players (and manager and GM) who get torched here, just because I firmly believe there is a lot more to all these situations than meets the eye ... and they are things that we as fans are simply not privy to. None of us. I agree. It makes for a good laugh at work when you need one. Levineline doesn't lie. He reports as much as he can find out. I'm sure the agents and GM's don't inform him of everything and he attempts to put it together
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) That sounds like a Bruuuuceee Levine special. The BUFFs are out!!!!!!
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) I think Thome is right around 100% right now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The rehab for the surgery is about 8-9 months. I can't recall when he had surgery but that is a good estimate. This time frame is for throwing, he should be able to hit sooner, depnding on the physician protocol.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Good grief.. soon the entire Indians squad will have passed through our doors. Also.. I'm gonna get some details on his work ethic, clubhouse persona, etc. just in case this holds some water. From all of my experiences with him, his is a good guy to be around. He tends to be quiet but very much a good clubhouse guy.
  20. I usually go but they switched my teaching assignments this year so it may be tough. What a year to miss!!!!!!!
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) I don't know Steff. I'm not trying to argue with you, that's for sure. You may be 100% correct on this. I just don't know. However, nothing you have said changes the point of view I came in with. Which was, I haven't seen anything outside of Soxtalk that points to it. I'm not being stubborn here, either. If you said, "Paul told me himself it's degenerative." I'd believe you. But Paul's quote doesn't lead me to the same conclusion it's leading you. Now you are asking me to take a leap of faith that he, in fact, does have a degenerative hip based on the fact that he has a neighbor in AZ who may or may not be Albert Belle, and who may or may not be advising him on his contract and that his hip may or may not be the reason he's doing so. He does have a degenerative hip problem. At his current age the degeneration is not rapid. There is no guarantee that it will become bad enough to effect his playing career. However, there is no guarantee that it won't. It is similar to what Belle had but not as advanced at similar ages. I have not seen the medical reports recently but know people who have. I do not think the problem will effect this contract but you never know.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Hey, anyone who can go yard off Escobar in a tough spot like that and then got it started off Oswalt in the Series I am going to defend. There is no way we can trade this guy unless Boras is completely outrageous in his demands. It's a good thing that has never happened. I feel safe that we can keep Crede now.
  23. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:29 AM) Crede (Scot Boras client) traded before his FA year. Uribe to 3B. New #2 plays SS? I agree with this also. Crede has a very short time with the Sox due to his agent. His inconsitency with hitting and the back problems all lead me to believe that he wil be traded either this off season or next. If Ozzie is looking for a #2 hitter with speed, these are usually CF, 2B or SS. A move with Crede makes sense. I have always liked Crede and have been a big supporter but relistically with his agent he is not long for this team.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) I wouldn't read much into that at this point....... Could have been a family issue. A private health issue that isn't worrisome from a baseball standpoint. Hopefully not another positive test for steriods. I really like him as a player.
  25. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Alright, This would be my ideal plan. This is all based on Konerko going to LAA. Sign Giles. Overpay if you have to. Its not like were going to sign him to a 6 year deal. Sign him at 3/34 if thats what it takes. We just won the WS. Were still in a good position to be a force. Lets do it now and worry about the future later. Trade for Overbay. While Delgado would be the better choice, He makes a ton of money, and the Sox im sure dont want to go down that road, especially if they just gave 3/34 to Giles. Give the Brew Crew El Duque, Marte, and a mid level prospect and see what happens. It will probably take more than that, but I think you can land him and still keep this team totally intact. Sign Eyre/Mike Myers as your other LHRP. Easy deal. Giles and Dye platoon DH and RF, with Overbay at 1b. Podsednik-LH Iguchi-RH Giles-LH Dye-RH Overbay-LH Rowand-RH Pierzynski-LH Crede-RH Uribe-RH Pretty good balance in your lineup, the LH and RH combos break everything up. Mark Jon Count Freddy Mac Viz Hermanson(maybe?) Pollite Myers/Eyre Cotts Jenks That is not that far fetched, is it? The problem I have with this is that Giles has (ahem) shunk over the past two years and I don't see thepower returning. The average and OBP will be there if that's what you are looking for. But if Paulie leaves we need a little power.
