QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) If the Tigers trade Young away, how the hell would Young be part of the Central division champ Tigers

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) I'd reserve judgement of that until McCarthy pitches against a team not named the Texas Rangers. And he fills out his figure. Not much is guaranteed with McCarthy, but I doubt he remains a walking light pole. Talked with BHAM last week about McCarthy, and he said people have projected his velocity ranging from 94-96. He has the possibility of becoming a power pitcher with contro. Not worthy of trade bait in my mind. He's what 21 or 22. He shouldn't have too much more "filling out." Remeber Jack McDowell? He still hasn't filled out. BTW, Stick Figure rocks

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) It's not like he'll be fielding 1B during the National League trip next week. Just sitting on the bench. This upcoming Cleveland series is very important. If Thomas doesn't believe his pain is worthy of a DL stinct, I'd hate to guess how his attitude will change. One week off from batting/running in game situations--although I couldn't speculate if he'll work out with the team during this time--should help. Right? It will help the hip. Who knows about the foot.

I'm still the only one who said it will be Willie? I'm not saying I agree with it, but with his option left I think they will do it.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) Would the trade involve Ozzie's personal fluffer Timo, Dingo, or Jizzcan? An Oakland trade could include Viz. They need a cheap bullpen guy with Dotel gone. Maybe even a shot at Shingo, flyballs are outs at Oakland.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) Don't be shocked by a trade of some sort which sorts out these roster issues. I agree. Usually by the time trade rumors surrounding KW become public they are almost completed. I don't know if it is the current rumor but something will happen.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Thomas plays this upcoming series against Cleveland and experiences no pain, I wouldn't expect him on the DL. As I said in my last post, losing him two series on the West Coast against national league teams will also mean he's gone for two home series the following week. Not worth it unless he truly needs the time to heal. He will not be painfree. The key will be to see if he can deal with the pain and not compensate to the point of causing other problems. That's when they need to make a decision.

I'm in for a yes. It has a lot of risk but the reward is high also. I hope it's not the juice holding hime and the lineup here helps him.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) Not at all. Let me try to articulate this, troll: You're a smarmy ass 24 year old who thinks he's brighter than everyone else. "Wow, I'm in grad school, aren't I smart?" What you've done since you've come here is try to be your big brother (penis envy, maybe?) and be Mr. Argument. Too bad this board doesn't offer lawyer pay. What exactly is the problem with your lack of interpersonal skills? Do you not have any at all? Are you this much of a colossal prick every time you go somewhere new? Or are your only friends the same type of cynical s*** stirrers who are frustrated with their lot in life? How many posters have you managed to piss off in the course of 3-4 days? Congratulations, you're up to about a dozen. Let me review ... hmmm, I think it was articulated rather well. You're a stain to this board. Go away. However, let me tell you this, if you continue to get in my face I'll be slinging it right back wise ass. Good show old boy!!! The ball is in the other court. (My money is on you)

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) If he was plunked, i dont think they would call it a strain. I think it would be called a bruise. Strain sounds to me like he landed on it funny. It's usually from throwing or holding up a swing. I believe he is a lefty so it would be his back arm. Typically you don't get that. It's usually the front arm. Did he do it while in the field?

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) He's a two (some will say three) time MVP. He's been on this team for 15 years. He was arguably the best hitter of the 90's. I think he has the right to say "I am ready." I know Ozzie doesn't want to hurt the team by not bringing somebody up sooner than they are ready, but only Frank knows if he's ready. What's the difference if he hurts his hip in AAA or with the Sox? Either way, he was going to have to turn on the "jets" and run. He's still swinging well and has 6 days to rest when we go to San Diego and Colorado. He'll be fine. He's definitely NOT Juan Gonzalez. No he does not have that right. He can have input but it isn't just his decision. Anyone who watched him attempt to run knows he is not right. His left foot still hurts enough that he must change his gait to "run too fast." As I've stated many times before this has taken longer than it should so they need to be very careful and not jeopardize his career. Maybe they've all decided this is as good as it's going to get so he may as well try it. But he obviously can't play full speed in the condition his ankle is in.

*Official* Eric Chavez Speculation/Dream Thread

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Honestly, who else would be interested in getting Chavez if Oakland did dangle him? Out of all of the contending teams this year as of now: AL: Not the Yanks with Pay Rod Not the Bo Sox with Mueller Not the Rangers with Blaylock Not the Angels with Dallas McPherson Not the Os with Mora hitting 0.297 Not the Twinkies with Cuddyer and with limited payroll NL: Not the Cards with Rolen Not the Braves with Chipper Jones Not the Marlins with Lowell Not the Giants with Alfonso hitting 0.328 (and the As would never trade him to Giants, it would hurt them big time with city popularity) Not the Cubs with Aramis Ramirez Not the Padres with Blum hitting 0.296 Not the LA Dodgers with Perez hitting 0.422 Not the Dbacks with Troy Glaus I just do not see anyone else seriously being interested in Chavez, hence we should use the leverage to our advantage. Hopefully, Kenny screws Beane who has to be desperate to trade him to us. there are rumors that the Angels are not happy with MacPherson (except against the Count of course) so that is a possibility. The Sox and the Dodgers are the most likely. Let's not forget the steriods issue. I'm not saying he definiately took them but there are rumors. If we trade top prospects for a guy who will never be the same it could be horrible for the team. KW better do his DD and be SURE Chavez has always been clean and this is only a slump. -
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) After an exciting Memorial Day victory, hopefully they can carry the momentum into another victory. Garcia has owned the Angels in his career. I don't think we'll be seeing Big Frank tonight, he may get a rest because of his hip. Let's hope the Sox can end May on a high note. Watching him play, the hip is sore due to his limping from the pain in his foot. He needs to let the hip heal thenstrengthening it because his foot is obviously not 100% and other compensatory problems will arise.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 26, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Actually.. he doesn't hate him as much as Rick Hahn who is responsible for the way Fisk was screwed over. Jerry is the reason Carlton was kept on to get the record. This is true. I am in the minority and will be hammered but I believe the Sox did Fisk a favor by keeping him as long as they did. He was obviously no longer a major league player at the time they let him go. No team would go near him. He could no longer hit or catch effectively. He was one of my favorite players to watch but he was done. I will agree the way they dumped him was wrong but after he broke the record he shouldn't have played much and who knows how he would have reacted to that.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) I hate people that put a lot of stock in the all-star game. I was arguing with a Red Sox fan out in Boston earlier this year and I was talking up Buehrle and how he has a legitimate shot at 300. The kid's arguments: "Mark Buehrle? Nobody even knows him." "How many all-star games has he been in?" After that last line, I just said, "Wow, you're a f***in' idiot." I think he got the point. I had the same discussion with one of my students who is a Cleveland fan. He said the Sox have no real All-Stars on the tean so there is no way they can keep up the winning all year. My reply was more subdued than yours as he is my student, but his exam grade suffered.

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ May 26, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) I like to read the comments at CBS. There are always the predictable "It's early" comments. While this is of course true, I wonder how long it will take before people stop saying it's early. Something from the article I wasn't aware of. The Sox lead the league in BA against left handers - .299 I also like the ESPN idiots commenting that the SOX started off well last year (something like 24-16) before the began to tail off. This insinuates that we will fall off again soon. Soxtalk>>>>>>>>>ESPN

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) This may be the game where Pods sits. Maybe even AJ, considering they're facing a LH. Hopefully, Uribe rides the pine, though since he's 0-for the road trip. In any case, we need Freddy to repeat his Wrigley performance. I agree, AJ will sit tonight.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) If you see that once through the lineup you adjust and start to take the ball the other way or hit it up the middle. You dont stand off the plate, step into the bucket opening up,. trying to pull the pitch on the outisde corner. If thats they case, you will never ever hit that ball. That is the way to approach it. However, the pitcher will bust a few inside and you will not be able to do that. If a pitcher has pinpoint control that good you won't beat him. Just realize he was better yesterday and the players will move on to the rest of the series. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) The sox offense has a good chance against Colon. He is one of those pitchers that likes to challenge our hitters, which means he wont spend his time painting the outside corner. We should get a few good licks on his fastball. One thing you seem to miss is that if you can spot a 90+mph fastball on the outside black all day long you will win nearly every game. Most pitchers can't do that consistently. Santana was on yesterday, let's move on and try to win at least one on the left coast. -
