He seems to be injured as well with as little as he has been playing. I think it was a back issue. But I do agree his defense there is the better choice
I didn't mention Kopech as those are valid concerns.
You stated Giolito and Cease are pre-injured in your post.
Valid concerns for a 35 year old pitcher. However, with a good injury history would not be asmuch of a worry as someone with Rodon's injury history.
Again I can't see how you have these concerns but insist Rodon would be good to add to the mix.
Playoffs do because of the intensity. Spring training not really. But if you want to count his spring training innings this this year and add those to his innings pitched this year.
He had about 135 including the playoffs last year.
You can use 150 but the people taking care of his health or lack thereof will not.
Good point. He used to play pitchers in RF, mostly Todd Worrell if memory serves correctly, when he wanted to bring a lefty in to face one batter and wanted him to face the next hitter.
No they don't as no one uses that in workload calculations.
If you want to go include all of that every pitcher throws close to 200 innings with warm-ups, between innings and side sessions.
It's all relative to previous workloads which is tracked by pitches or innings.
I think the off season training programs is a variable as well. The increased power type training Ala Kopech is becoming the norm and I don't think the subsequent decreased flexibility is being addressed. Baseball is one sports that has very quick full range motions that add a unique stress to tissues.
As with anything player unique body types and genetics allow some to tolerate better than others. However overall I think it could be an issue.
Does it matter? People seem down on Jimenez because he is always hurt. However this doesn't seem to apply to Rodon. We will take what we get from Rodon but not Jimenez.
