  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) When Sheffield's name came up in trade rumors last season, he immediately responded by saying he took less money to play for the Yankees, and if they traded him, he'd respond by basically dogging it on the field for whoever he was traded to. Keep that juicing M.F. away from my team. Agreed. He would do nothing but destroy this team with his selfish, everything must be my way attitude. I would rather see anybody but him.
  2. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) anyone else and i'd agree with you. however, this is the big hurt we are talking about. half of his at bats this past season were home runs. and all chisox fans must love frank. we need him back til he retires. I agree. I'd love to have him back. I'm just saying with Konerko, Garland, AJ and Crede all due big raises and the questionable foot, Thomas may not fit in KW and Ozzie's overall plans.
  3. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) they said on the radio that they will pay him the buyout friday however this got me thinking why wait till tomorrow. I think that they might be working out a contract that has a ton of incentives. I might be wrong however i think they will announce a new contract tomorrow after they officially buy him out. What do you guys think? Also sorry if this was already posted here. I would doubt that. I think they are going to wait until they receive more medical reports on the foot. That second separate fracture in the navicular is a cause for concern.
  4. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) OK Randar- what would you do in 2007 when Chris Young is ready, and assuming the Sox trade Rowand? Make Anderson a corner OF? Make Young a corner OF? By the way, regardless of the merits, I do not foresee any possibility that KW trades the starting centerfielder and one of the most popular players (internally and with fans) on a World Champion team. Don't see it. I think at this point KW is clearly heading to the point where B.A. is carried as a 4th OF to replace Timo. While I do see the point of keeping Rowand, you are going to have to make decisions on who to keep. Garland, Crede and AJ are due big raises through arbitration. Konerko will cost alot to keep. The outfield is one plce we may have a player ready to step in and offer a cheap replacement. KW has shown to guts to let popular players go (Ordonez, Valentin) in order to make the entire team better. Maybe the move is to let Konerko go but I would think about trding Rowand to keep the others.
  5. This season Ozzie has consistently put players in a position to test them. Theonly thing I can think of is that Ozzie was testing Marte to see if he can get LH out in pressure situations to prepare him for the post-season. Either that or KW still has a trade up his sleeve and they're show casing him.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Blum isn't a SS. He doesn't have the vertical quickness to play the position. He's best suited to play 3b. Why do you need vertical quickness to play SS? You don't need to jump quickly except for the back end of the DP.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) No way. Griffey would clear waivers without a shadow of a doubt. ESPN said that one reason nobody wants Griffey is that he is owed almost 60 mil. Alot of it deferred through 2024. No one wants to pay him for the next 19 years.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) They mentioned the possibility of fusion surgery last winter. From what I was told fusion surgery would end his career. It's possible but I don't think the fusion would necessarily end his career but it takes longer to come back from. You are looking at probably a 9-12 month rehab from a fusion, if return is possible.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) If he rebroke it, we have seen the last of Frank in a Sox uniform. We won't pay him that much money to sit out another year. The only way back is if they pay him something with an incentive laced contract for 2007. if he re-fractured it after 7 months of rehab and playing for only for about 2 months, it may be time to hang them up.
  10. Anyone hear any specifics? We know how KW likes to keep things quiet. It must be something severe if they announced it before the deadline. Either that or Levineline leaked info he shouldn't have and KW is going to let him habe it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Nto a surprise.. the don't have much to be graded on in terms of success. Most of their broadcasts are filled with "sigh... the Rays lose again". It's easy to be the best when you're calling winners all the time. I agree. The radio team is new which is tough and trying to call games when you're always losing makes it tougher.
  12. If our fielder's ever decide to catch the ball these are useless points. One game agaist BOS there were 3 unearned runs and one game against KC there were 3 unearned runs. We win both of those and no one is screaming about the bullpen.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) You misunderstood me. You are right there is a test for it, but MLB doesn't have a test for it. And you are right about the last sentence and that is what I said as well. I just wanted to clarify it for others that it is in fact a banned substance by MLB. I didn't want others to think that it wasn't. Gotcha, sorry.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Then why the hell would the greatest player ever do steroids? To continue a career artificially going longer than it should go.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) That is not entirely true. HGH is not left out of the MLB policy. It is an actual banned substance by MLB. The problem is that they don't have a test for it. So it really doesn't matter if it is banned or not if they don't test for it. But it is a banned substance by MLB. there is a test for it. It's esay to find. Just take a blood sample and test for the levels of growth hormone. The problem is professional sports unions have kept the drug testing to urine samples only. It doesn't matter if it is banned in the policy, if they don't test for it, you won't catch them.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Is HGH not in the MLB Policy or just not tested for? What difference it makes I don't know, but I'm just curious. I know it's not tested for because they don't do blood testing. I don't know if it's mentioned in the policy or not. But without testing it really doesn't matter.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Oh, I don't want him. Let me make that one clear. I despise Barry Bonds, and if you ever met any of my friends, you'd know how much I hate steroids and anyone involved with them. You're a doctor, right? You certainly know more about steroids than I do, but I read from a few sources that the guys with the money can stay ahead of the testing because new kinds of steroids are made basically every week. One guy I like to read about is Charles Yesalis. He's an expert in steroids at, I think, Penn State. He seems as cynical as me, which is hard to be HGH is a huge problem and it's laughable that it was left out of the new policy. I'm a physical therapist and athletic trainer. HGH is not only left out of the MLB agreement but also NFL. It's because of the blood sampling that the unions have kept it out. You're right about the development of the new ones. There may be a few takers for Bonds. But with the uncertainty about the steriods and the knee, I think it will scare most off. Did you know that the surgreon he went to has had his medical license revoked for un ethical practice before? He goes to this guy because he will do what he wants. Many teams are leary of this.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) The richer players can stay ahead of the testing. that's true. Especially if they use HGH which can only be detected with blood samples. However, most steriod users get comfortable with what they are using and it takes them awhile to get used to new ones. Maybe that's why he is taking the time off? Anyway I wouldn't take my chances on a player that needs to find new steriods to keep performing.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) No one? Why is that? I am sure Anaheim would love to have him and they like to spend money as well. Why would no one take him? His attitude? Please, a lot of teams will look right past that and at his 40 HRs a year. Those 40 HR's might not return without "the juice"
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Like I said. "Corpseball is officially back in season" Goddamn right it's a concern. Pods isn't stealing like he was at the beginning of the year. PK has gotten to the rest of the hitters and everyone is basically trying to pull. PK isn't really productive at all for a #4. Tad can't hit a curveball. What's really hurting us is that we're giving away these games defensively and pitching wise which is how we won games in the beginning of the year. Remember, the playoffs aren't here yet and they might not come this year if we don't get our s*** in gear. That's true. In last Sat. game against Boston Konerko flied out weakly to right trying to go the other way with man on. On Sunday with men on he hit the ball sherply to left and scored the runners. If you are going to beat a dead hjorse so am I. Some people just can't hit the ball with authority the opposite way. All they do is pop it up or fly out. I don't know your background but if you'ver been around baseball long enough you should know some people just can't do it. It's nice to say it but sometimes it's just not possible and you rob them of power. By the way, many people in the MLB community criticize Walker for teaching the Charlie Lau theory of hitting too much and robbing them of power. Just food for thought.
  21. The only way I put Politte in the deal is if we get Mota. Mota is a closer (protection for Hermanson +a closer for next year), Politte while good is pitching over his head and not a closer.
  22. Three starters to go deep in games is all we need. But we can always use bullpen help, especially with the cranky back of hermanson. Pitching and defense, pitching and defense.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) IMO, it's not just Greg Walker. It's the fact that most major leaguers, when they realize that they can hit more homers, will become enamored of that prospect. Especially when they see how the ball flies out of comiskey. I think that is what happened to a guy like AJ. He saw how the ball flies and alters his approach. Balls that used to bounce off the baggy in Min, fly out of our park.
  24. I think hw is good and getting better. However, I don't think I'm to the point where "I need to have him on the radio shows." It would depend on the replacement.
  25. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) If he does that he's just hurting himself. By reporting to Charlotte he's got another month to prove himself. If he puts up solid numbers in Aug down there he's sure to get called up when the rosters expand. That will give him a chance to compete for a playoff spot on the roster. All of which will greatly enhance his FA value over what he can get now. If he does elect to become a FA (refusing assignment) he forfeits the $. I though playoff rosters has to be set by Aug 31 except for DL players that can be added before the start of the playoffs?
