  1. My Iowa bias is showing, but I was really hoping Jake Adams would make MLB's top 200. I get the limitations keeping his draft stock from ever really taking off, but he's become a bit of a folk hero here in Iowa City. Paul Bunyan incarnate.
  2. Kendall just absolutely air-mailed a throw to third. Covered an impressive amount of ground trying to make the catch though.
  3. The players participating in the Derby are often players that have already hit an abnormally large amount of homers in the first half of the season. It makes sense that a lot of them aren't able to equal their first half output.
  4. Eddy Alvarez is putting up Micah-esque stolen base numbers at Kanny. Really pulling for him.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Medical evidence actually shows that by the time they're 30 years old, African American women are the equivalent of biologically being several years older than white women due to increased stress. We insult people, we treat them as less important in our daily lives, and then we justify that by saying "oh I'll hire anyone as long as they're the best fit" or "good job playing to the stereotype" without realizing that both of those actions feed directly back into the whole setup. Insults, shunning, casual comments, whatever it is, the effects are actually strong enough to show up in people's biology. I remember reading that study. I don't recall anything about insults, shunning, or any other verbal abuse being attributed to the increased stress they face.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) I wouldn't go that far. Remember Aquaman is a DC character and DC is owned by Warner Brothers, who is known to be the most filmmaker friendly studio in Hollywood, they gave Jeff Nichols final cut on Midnight Special, his first studio film. This isn't Disney/Marvel where you have to follow a strict formula, and aren't allowed any freedom to express yourself, which is Edgar Wright left Ant-Man and Ava DuVernay passed on Black Panther. And whether its an original film or a blockbuster, there is going to be limitations. Good points, I agree. I guess what I was really trying to get at was that I'd rather see writer/directors come up with their own original material, rather than putting their own spin on stories and characters that are already well established. I'm sure Nichols/Wright would have made great versions of Aquaman/Antman, but I'm way more interested in seeing what unique stories and characters they can cook up from scratch.
  7. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) I was shocked that it was that good because it was an assembly cut, it was in the very stages of the editing process, so there was no special effects, a temp score and what not. He's a nice guy too. He answered every question and responded to everyone in the room and afterwards he took time to speak with everyone. He was in line to direct Aquaman but he chose to do another original flick. Oh yeah, I think I remember reading he was in line to helm Aquaman. I'm always selfishly disappointed when exciting up-and-coming writer/directors start taking on blockbuster projects. It's hard to fault anyone for raking in millions of dollars, but it's sad to see a young talent limit themselves creatively. Glad to hear Nichols is going to keep doing his own thing, at least for the time being.
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/sxs...e-film-20150315 Me and my partner saw a very rough cut of this movie during the fall of last year, and it was amazing. Very John Carpenter-esque and super intense, the scenes with the boy were just fantastic. There's going to be an update at Comic Con, so check it out Thanks, that sounds really encouraging. Jeff Nichols has had a tremendous start to his career, and my expectations for Midnight Special were already pretty high. Also, someone told me I look like Michael Shannon a few weeks ago. I really don't know how to feel about that, lol.
  9. I remember when the Sox first acquired Davidson, and the main concern was whether or not he could field his position in the majors. I miss those days.
  10. Shark Positions White Sox for Timely Win Hawk Positions White Sox for Timely Whine
  11. None of the flyers the Sox took last year seemed to pan out, so it only seems fair that this year's batch turns into a bunch of Esteban Loaizas.
  12. I'd like to know what the anonymous Diamondbacks player that trashed Eaton on his way out didn't like about him. He always seems like such a fun, likeable guy.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) imho the sox just need 1 last positional player. that will be a sp with expiring contract. 1. Zimmermann - problem here i can't remember if the sox have a friendly trade relations with Washington if not 2. Cueto of Cincy. expiring contract. i just want insurance for the pitchers going into the playoff in case of injury or getting tired b/c of the inning pitched. those 2 can get QO and let them go. no long term commitment unless the sox will want to sign either Jeff or Zimm or Cueto. who will sign on the dotted line the fastest. prospects i will discuss tomorrow. peace. This is a total shot in the dark, but do you post on any Iowa Hawkeye message boards? Your posting style totally reminds me of someone else. He ends a lot of his posts with "peace" as well.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 12:12 AM) Welcome back Prodical Son. We are glad to have our very own Hunter S. Thompson back in the fold! Thanks, hi8is. Thanks hi8is. Thanks 10-year hiatus. Thanks, shoeless.
  15. I joined almost a decade ago, but left to go on a ten year bender after they won it all in '05. Now I'm a born-again Soxtalk poster.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) I'm not sure what book you are referring to but you are cool with me Douglas. You seem like a nice guy. Phone book. Remember those?
  17. If that's the one you have your heart set on, I say go for it. It's risky though, since he may be gone sooner than we'd like. My most obscure one is a Norberto "Paco" Martin jersey. I wore it the last time I went to the Cell, and twice I heard people behind me wondering who the hell "Martin" is.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) That post was purely to stir people up. Nothing more. Also, the guy's name is "Wyatt Derp." That's a pretty good hint.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) I was really trying real hard not to respond but ....... oh well what is your point that is different than mine????? are you answering my post with the same statement ????? trying at an attempt at humor?????? which failed if it was pssst (use different color font) He was agreeing with you...
  20. I really appreciated them. I check the box scores most nights, and it was nice to have the recaps as a little cherry on top. They're also good for when I had a busy day, and didn't feel like pouring over every affiliate's box score.
  21. Wilkins...so hot right now. Seven multi-hit games in a row, with a total of seven homers and 15 RBI in that span.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) It is very hard to say who the "real prospects" are down there. They're just so damn young. But a few guys that were paid relatively high bonuses that are still down there include Maiker Feliz, Jose Reyes, Hanleth Otano and Roger Ramos. There are also a few pitchers putting up nice K & BB numbers that may be worth watching. Thank you, that helps. An extra box score that I get to check each day is always a good thing.
  23. I'd like to start following the DSL box scores more closely, but I don't really know much about any of our players on that squad. Who are considered the best prospects on the roster? Or are they so young that I shouldn't even bother getting invested in them until they're further advanced?
  24. Jake Peter continues to hit. Already 2-2 tonight.
