QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ May 27, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Chris Rock really needs to give up movies and stick with the stand-up. I've seen Rock's standup live and he's great. The excessive cursing and graphic sex jokes get a bit old at times but, overall, he's the best I've ever seen. Dave Attell's self-deprecating wit is quite good as well.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) However, I still believe that the best chance for a female would be on a GOP ticket. The GOPerheads would vote for her because she isn't a Dem and the Dem's would vote for a female just to prove their liberalism. I wouldn't necessarily think that. The Labour Party members in England didn't exactly support Margaret Thatcher to prove their liberalism. Agreed that our first female president will be a Republican. Kay Bailey Hutchinson could probably win. McCain and Guiliani are probably the most electable GOPerheads, although the former has fallen out of favor with some members of his party. As long as Howard Dean continues to run his mouth while running the Jackass party, either will likely beat Hillary.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 27, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) Here are your "abuses" of the Koran. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/26/quran/index.html What a bunch of horses*** this whole argument is. The detainee who made the charge now says he didn't actually see this alleged flushing but "heard about it somewhere". These allegations of Koran abuse are flimsy at best and are getting more so with every passing day. Of course, we didn't see anybody in the Middle East holding violent protests over bin Laden's desecreation of Islam after 9/11. And speaking of bin Laden, "Muslims" are protesting this alleged desecration of the Koran in Pakistan today. Guess who their poster boy is? I hope they set themselves on fire while attempting to burn our flag.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 27, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) I also think that she's about as non-bulls*** as it gets You're kidding, right? In an attempt to garner support for '08, Hillary's already moved towards the center by pandering to Christian moderates. Let us not forget that this is the same person who tried to push socialized medicine (liberal alert!) through her husband's administration just over a decade ago. This is also the same person who carpet-bagged her way over to NY to take Moynihan's seat. Hillary's an opportunist who will do or say whatever it takes to get elected and that qualifies as "bulls***" in my book.

I'm assuming that Carl's Jr. is affiliated with Hardee's? The logos are very similar.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) It also has one of the highest rates of HIV infection. It is a country unraveling, which is very sad because it is a beautiful country with many resources. This is why there's a massive HIV epidemic in Africa: Men, on average, have no respect for the women in their lives. If they're not beating them senseless at home, they're off having sex with prostitutes. Throwing money and condoms at Africa is a complete waste of time and taxpayer money. Nothing's going to change until their attitudes do.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Not specifically saying it is anybody in this thread but does anybody else find it amusing that the most fundamentalist Christians in the US also seem to be the most outspoken supporters of the war? I guess that "love your enemies" message of the New Testament really sunk in. As Lenny Bruce said, "I always thought it was 'Thou shalt not kill' not 'Thou shalt not kill but...'." Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that most fundamentalist Christians understand that not every conflict can be solved via diplomacy.

"Heroine" and "heroin" are two completely different things.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 20, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Stop worrying, other than the Times no one is reporting this. No clear-thinking person takes the NY Times seriously anymore. -
QUOTE(winodj @ May 20, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) Garden State Parkway might as well be a NASCAR track. I cruise at 80 and get passed on a regular basis. I've had the misfortune of experiencing that as well (thankfully, I wasn't driving). The worst of I've seen is Route 1 just north of Boston. For those not in the know, it's basically a busy road surrounded by businesses (not unlike Rt. 59 in Naperville or Rt. 45 in Orland Park), but with no turn lanes and everyone drives 70.

QUOTE(winodj @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Amoco and Sears Tower were very different buildings structurally. The openness of the inside of the WTC was what made it so special. IIRC, the Amoco (Aon Center) has the same type of architectural design.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) The media seems to have no problem minding its business when it comes to showing the good our solidiers are doing in Iraq, Afganistan, and around the world in general. All of our boys and our country is being painted as blood thirsty savages. This is bigger than one parties political agenda, or at least it should be. When was the last time you saw a picture of American's building new roads in Iraq? Or a little girl going to school for the first time in Afganistan? But I'll bet you have seen a picture of Lyndie England in the last month. Yes the media has a role in opening up scandals, as they are the final check and balance of government. But their agenda needs to be bigger than taking down a President. They are daily putting our lives in danger, not just our soldiers. If their were images of Americans saving lives around the world, that might go towards actually showing that the vast majority of American's want the world to be a better place. Instead the media only concentrates on the worst of the worst. Feeling the hate we do from the rest of the world, makes me want to close up shop and say screw the rest of the world. Pull out all of our companies, resources, food, aid companies etc, and let them see how they get along without the great satan. They all hate us, but where is the first place they turn to when they need help? Who is in there saving the lives of Iranians after their huge earthquake? It wasn't the Russians who are selling them the bomb making equiptment they hope to someday use against us I will tell you that much. It is us. The citizens of this country give self-lessly to the rest of the world, more than the rest of the world gives combined, yet we are the evil ones. What does the Muslim world provide for our poor and starving people? Did they offer to send rescue crews and relief aid after all of the hurricanes hit Florida? Nope. I am sick of it. I am sick of being protraying as treating the rest of the world as a doormatt by our own citizens, and having my life put in danger because of it. All because they want to sell a few more newspapers. Hell the reporting of the abuse of American;s, our families mind you, doesn't even get reported as much as the abuse of other people? This same kind of stuff happens in our own prision systems everyday, but are there reports about that? Nope. I am f***ing sick of it all. Was busy earlier today and didn't have time to repond to this. VERY well-said. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) You are twisting again. If I'm not mistaken, we both (BH and I) acknowledged the need for this particular story to be reported. BigHurt, if I am mistaken, I apologize. You are not mistaken at all. Like you, I do support the reporting of torture by our military. Torture should not be a viable interrogation technique. Back in the days when our media wasn't so blatantly partisan and actually gave a damn about the welfare of our troops, stuff like this happened all of the time. Do you not think that our military did similar things in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam? Hell, it was even worse back then: Where was the NY Times when Roosevelt unlawfully sent Japanese Americans to detention camps? And FDR is widely-regarded as one of our nation's greatest presidents. The bottom line is that ANY military is going mistreat at least a few prisoners in a time of war. I'm not trying to excuse or justify it, but it happens. And I'l bet that our military is much more humane than, say, China's or Russia's. The American public holds our military to incredibly high (and some might argue unreasonably high) standards of conduct in times of war. And I believe that our media outlets have the right to report blatant human rights abuses. But the partisan bias of today's media goes far beyond that. Does the (alleged) flushing of pages of the Koran down a toilet qualify as a human rights abuse? Did the NY Times need to run 53 (!) front-page articles on Abu Ghraib? These aren't cases of fair and biased journalism... they're cases of blatant political mud-slinging that undermine our military's efforts and put our troops in even further danger. Just as our troops should be held accountable for their actions, so should our media. -

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 20, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) Sadly, the truth of that paired statement is evident. Not a terrorrist, but also not an American is a combination that doesn't warrant humane treatment apparently. You're confusing the "right to a speedy trial" with "humane treatment." EVERYONE deserves the latter, but those being detained as enemy combatants (it's not like they're jailing people in Afghanistan for parking violations) don't have the right to the former. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) 5 over my ass in rural areas. Nah, I understand what you mean. It's more laid back and less urgency to get to where you need to go. It's much different than, say, on rural sections of I-65 in Indiana where I'll be going 75 in the right-hand lane (speed limit is 65) and some dickhead will be on my ass every 30 seconds. I absolutely hated that s*** and am glad that I don't have to deal with it anymore.
