  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 01:06 AM)
    Yeah, big hits aren't the huge key. Playing physical overall is key...more so being able to play physical when it is called upon, i.e. playing the body in a certain situation is better than playing the puck, etc.  It's knowing HOW and when to play physical is the thing. It's something the Hawks might struggle with all year.

    Big hitting as imtimidation works up through the high school level, from my experience.

    That's put alot better than I did. Thank you.

    Do you ever go to the U of I hockey games? Theyre just a club team but it was pretty exciting. The fans are brutal.

  2. I guess my competitive was mistaken. Organized I guess would have been a better term to use. My point is punishing hits and such don't affect the game as much as Hawk fans believe. Big hits, meh, give me the stick check and a quick pass and I'm a happy camper. You dont need to knock people on their ass all the time. Yeah, drafting big defensemen works sometimes, but you dont always need size to clear out the front of the net. Positioning is a big part of it.

  3. QUOTE(LDF @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 10:58 AM)
    hitting is use to make the other team look over their shoulder, if they are constantly doing that then you disrupt the flow of their game and game plan. thereby giving you an edge.

    in the 60's and 70's. esp with bobby hull, player was always looking to see or keep a presence on where he was. which lead them not playing their own game.

    To the first paragraph, have you played competitive hockey?

    To the second, I wasnt alive back then, but I'm pretty sure they wanted to know where Hull was because he could score. Yeah, he hit people, and made them think twice about carrying the puck, but I think most of the time teams were aware of his offensive presence.

  4. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 05:36 PM)
    No hitting

    That's the one thing about hockey "fans" that I dont understand. They act like hitting means youre going to win. And hitting is going to make your team better. It's a shame that these fans think that hitting is such a big part of the game. Its a method to steal the puck, not kill someone. So if the team isnt as physical but still gets the job done, I'm ok with that. Saying not hitting enough is a reason for losing is horrible. The game was lost on bad defensive decisions and too many penalties, and poor goaltending.

  5. Interestingly enough we were discussing this in my anatomy class today and my teacher, who is female, made it sound horrendous. I felt like in a few years the doctor is going to violate me. But I guess it isnt so bad then?

  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 09:51 AM)
    He was always going to take a bit longer to get used to the American Style of Hockey. He needs to work on things like his awareness, positioning etc. but I still like him with that slap shot of his. But yes, with Barker, Seabrook, Keith, Barinka probably all going to be fixtures for the next decade, Babchuk needs to have a good year down at Norfolk. Pavel Vorobiev too, wherever he is.

    You can say get used to American style hockey after the first season. He's going on his third over here and still getting beaten in open ice and routinely coughing up the puck at the blueline. I dont think American style hockey has anything to do with that. Awareness and positioning shouldnt be a problem for a top 10 pick and such a big guy. I'm not cutting him too much slack this year, if he disappoints again in Norfolk, package him for picks.

  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 09:05 AM)
    He was in Norfolk for the last 2 seasons IIRC.

    Yep, you're correct, but IMO he's been a disappointment. I expected him to be with the big club right now and being a major contributor. I think it's the curse of the Keith Jerseys, I'm pretty sure he has a Babs one to go with JoeBo. Hopefully it wont be the same scenario lol.

    But he was supposed to be excellent and still has that chance, but he's already been passed up by Barker and Seabrook and I think Barinka outplayed him in the preseason as well.

  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:42 PM)
    We just lost 4-2 at Calgary, they scored an empty netter at the end of the game to put the result beyond doubt. Duncan Keith, and Cam Barker on a 5 on 3 PP scored the goals. I'm thinking Barker's gonna make the team on what he's done in the pre-season so far.

    Cam Barker was sexy last saturday. Just looked like an NHL defenseman. I think Barinka should make it too, he's a nasty blueliner I would like to see the hawks have.

  9. I was there, and I think that was the first preseason game I've ever been to when there isnt a fight lol.

    But seriously, Bourque impressed, Barker really impressed me, he made Iggy his b**** for the night.

    Leighton looked awful in the net, he got lucky a few times.

    Bell and Calder didn't look too good. Lots of penalties on the Hawks as well.

    Good effort though boys and way to bring home a W. :cheers
