6/19 Game Thread PIT @ CWS, 1:05pm CT

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Bought a ticket online last night using a card, just woke up and discovered I don't have cash to pay the parking nazi and going to the bank would mean a 5th inning entrance, ticket will be unused. Six Flags takes credit for parking, why not Sox games? There are plenty of places to park without paying if you don't mind a little walk. If you want I can give a few places you could park. -

I think Big Toby goes deep for the first time as a Sox. -
We should get a free case of Molson with every barrel of oil from Canada. These cases of Molson will than be sent out to the people of America. Much like the rebate checks.

I was just watching the Thing the other day. His work on the dog mutation scene is just awesome. Sad news.

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) That just means we will see more of the infamous Jason Michaels. I wonder if they realize they have somewhat of a Sox killer on their team. I think he lost his super magical power when he left the Indians. "Remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." -
I voted Lofton, but I don't think he would be ready to go. So next up would be Fields. I think we need someone that can drive in runs.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) I think ineffective and otherwise bad is about right. "Socialism" (read: redistribition of wealth) is just not something I'm too interested in, and that's pretty much all he's about. . I heard if elected he will put up statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels all over DC, but seriously to say his policies are socialist or he is a socialist is way overblown. Most socialists I know don't like him. They aren't going to vote for him because he's not a socialist.

the things kids are being taught these days...

I don't find it shocking that crazy things are being taught at a religious school. I bet a lot of religious schools, no matter what the religion are being taught hate and things that are lies about the past. -
Its so Predictable.

Here comes a classic Paulie DP.

Wow. A pop up!
-
Buehrle pitching great. We need to score some runs.

big head goes down!

The Sox have 5 game losing streak on the road that needs to end. I hope that day is today. Go Sox.

I think we will sign Danks. The others might a longer shot, but one of the two would be nice. I think Long will be the hardest to sign.

Lets keep crushing Zoolander.

The Dodgers have had some bad luck with SS this year. I think Uribe could help them, now that Frucal is gone till july. Maybe they get lucky and he gets hot for a month or two.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) The reason I ask is because some people have claimed that the murder rate for union members is lower than the average murder rate in Colombia. In which case, it's difficult (though not impossible) to make the case that union members are being 'hunted down'. In any case, if that is true, it would be irresponsible to make the claim that union members are being systematically killed on the basis of sheer numbers. Can you just show me where you are getting your data? The numbers i'm getting have come from different places. Mostly from different articles and things written on the subject. I know the AFL-CIO did a report on it and other such unions. I've also come across about 5 or so different articles on personal stories of people being attacked or killed. I think it would be irresponsible to just blow these killings off a random acts of murder in a country that has had a history of labor right issues. These are not left wing FARC guerillas. These are just hard working people trying to make a living wage. I think if America went ahead with the Free Trade agreement it would say that these things just happen and oh well. American should demand that it's trading partners have the same labor rights as we do.

I would rather see a White Sox vs. Nationals world series.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) I think the key question is...how do you know they were killed BECAUSE they were union leaders, and not just they were union leaders who happened to be killed for other reasons? I see. When someone receives over 200 death threats and then is bound, gagged and shot in the back of the head, you can assume it wasn't because they wanted his watch. Not that there aren't cases when someone is just killed for anonymous reasons, but I think the majority of them are pretty blunt. Also some of the murders will come after a rally or protest. Also murders tend to happen close to each other. Like a unionist will be shot and than less than 24 hours later another will be shot. To create that climate of fear. As far as what a "leader" would be. I don't know. Someone who heads up a protest or organizes against a certain company I would assume.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) No, you're not understanding me. I'm not asking about the meaning of the word. How are the two distinguished in the data? And, again, who qualifies as a union "leader" in these data you are citing? I'm not really sure what your looking for here.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) I see. So the question I've been asking is, how are assassinations differentiated from other types of murder? Also, what is the qualification for being a "leader"? The distinction between assassination and other forms of killing is that the assassination usually has political motivation. As far as the leaders go, you could use Carlos Alberto Chicaiza Betancourt as an example. He was killed in 2004. He was a board member of a union that was trying to organize municipal workers. He was shot twice in the head.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 08:42 AM) You're talking about numbers, though. I'm asking about those numbers you are referring to -- are they assassinations of trade unionists, or all murders of trade unionists? If they are assassinations, how are those differentiated from other murders? I was referring to the 17 trade union leaders that were assassinated this year.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Do you mean assassinations, or murders? Do you differentiate between the two? Well there is a lot of murder in Columbia, but I was trying to use the word assassination to make the point that besides the random murder cases, people are being killed for political reasons. I really don't know if makes any sense of not.

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Sun-Times is a classless junk paper. I don't want to get into anything political here, but they are as far left as can be and extremely biased. I don't care if they're far left, journalism has no place for blatant biases. It wouldn't make a difference to me if they were far-right. I'm not journalist expert, but for good journalism, you have to show all view points, not just your own. Plus, they have no-goods like Mariotti in their sports section who probably has never swung a bat in his life, writing garbage for publicity. I'm sorry (no I'm not), but the Sun-Times is one paper that I won't be wasting any money on. They are openly to the left. Though I wouldn't say far left. They are left to balance out the Tribune which is more conservative. Jay Mariotti does suck though.
