  1. Lucroy is the person to add, he'd be a definitive upgrade that wouldn't take up a spot in the OF or the DH spot. The question is whether the White Sox have the pieces to put a package together to get him.
  2. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Wow. Interesting stuff. I wonder what their record is since they inserted Tim Anderson into the lineup as well? 12-10. Another interesting note on Anderson, he's hitting .300 with an OPS just shy of .800 while carrying a 32.4% K rate. He'll be a scary good hitter if he can maintain his performance in all other aspects and knock that K rate down to 25% or less.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) 23-10, then 10-26, then 9-4. 42-40. I thought about that, too. Turns out Lawrie has played 81 of the team's 82 games, with the lone exception being one of the 10 wins in the 10-26 stretch.
  4. My guess is the answer depends on Brett Lawrie. First 33 games (23-10): .271 AVG, .817 OPS Next 35 games (9-26): .191 AVG, .570 OPS Last 13 games (9-4): .377 AVG, 1.079 OPS Seems like when Brett hits, the Sox win, and when he doesn't, they don't.
  5. When this team gets Cabrera and Jackson back, they could go on a run.
  6. It's nice when statistics confirm that a trend you notice isn't just in your head. Anyone think the Sox could put a package together for Lucroy? I know it would have to include Fulmer, but even with him, do the Sox have the pieces to make it work?
  7. Name: Corey Zangari Height: 6'4" Weight: 240 Bats: Right Throws: Right DOB: 05/07/1997 (Current Age 19 years 1 month) Acquired: 6th Round (172nd Overall) 2015 Amateur Draft Current Affiliate: Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie) Other Affiliates: AZL White Sox (Rookie), Kannapolis Intimidators (A) Background: Zangari burst onto the scene in 2015 with a very impressive performance in the Arizona League, where he hit .323 with 20 extra base hits and an .848 OPS. He performed so well there that the organization gave him a late season promotion to Great Falls, where he struggled a little to close out the season. In 2016, Zangari opened the season in A ball with the Kannapolis Intimidators, where he struggled mightily, failing to hit even .200 with the club. The White Sox recently decided to demote Zangari to Great Falls, where he is facing more age appropriate competition (though he's still 1.5 years younger than league average), and he has been on a tear in the 5 games he's played with the Voyagers, sporting a .333 average with an OPS of 1.131. The hope is that the assignment was just a little too aggressive for Corey, and that he'll continue mashing at Great Falls and be ready for a promotion back to Kannapolis either by season's end or heading into 2017. 8. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) Hostetler said that they will Collins a week or 2 to relax and catch his breath before they send him to W-S. So if it takes a little bit for the signing, I presume that's why. They must have a lot of confidence in him to send him straight to A+.
  9. Mike Trout for 3 reasons: 1) Middle of the order bat they so desperately need. 2) Plays CF, meaning Eaton can be the elite RF he was in the first half of the season. 3) I feel Rodon will develop into a frontline starter (see: one of the 10-20 best in baseball), Shields is not as bad as his last three outings and will make a high end 4, and the team can find/develop a 5th starter, Miguel Gonzalez has been mostly serviceable to this point. Also, this lineup makes me salivate: 1) SS Anderson 2) RF Eaton 3) CF Trout 4) 1B Abreu 5) 3B Frazier 6) LF Cabrera 7) 2B Lawrie 8) DH Garcia 9) C Avila/Navarro I don't even care that the last spot is a black hole and the 8 spot is below average production for a DH, that top 7 will more than make up for it.
  10. Wasn't a big part of the hot start the patience of the hitters? If so, shouldn't that be what they're trying to replicate now?
  11. So, potential wise, is his ceiling something close to Buster Posey? Because if the Sox could have something like that, that would be a strong part of a foundation for a really good team.
  12. Why would you not throw the best starters you can at a division rival and the defending world champions? Not pitching Sale in this series to get Gonzalez a start is incomprehensibly stupid.
  13. This is actually a great idea, but the Sox won't be the franchise to do it. When was the last time the White Sox did anything that resembled an innovative program that no one else had tried? They're just not the type of franchise to do this sort of thing. Maybe with a different owner, but not the current ownership group.
  14. The real question is: Will he sign before pitchers and catchers report?
  15. The White Sox are concerned about payroll this year, so why not structure a deal like this: Year 1: $10 million Year 2: $20 million Year 3: $20 million Year 4: $20 million Year 5: $20 million mutual option with team buyout of $10 million Year 6: $20 million mutual option with team buyout of $10 million That way, the worst case for him is he opts out after year 4 having made $70 million and thinking he can get more than $40 million for the next 2-3 seasons. If the team decides to walk, it's a minimum 4/$80 deal, with maximum potential of 6/$110. That seems to be a better deal than anything he's being offered at the moment.
  16. 4 things make Cespedes more attractive to me than Gordon: 1) He's younger and fits better with the age of the core of the team that has been assembled. 2) He doesn't cost a comp pick. 3) He seems to be the more likely of the two to be able to transition to RF. 4) He can legitimately bat cleanup, Gordon can't.
  17. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) DANIEL MURPHY AGREES TO DEAL WITH NATS Daniel Murphy, the National League Championship Series MVP, has agreed to terms with the Nationals on a 3-year deal, according to ESPN's Jim Bowden. Murphy rejected a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Mets. What are the terms? Looks good for the Nats, regardless.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) $7 million now...for one war. Then I guess Danks was worth $12.6 million and LaRoche should be paying back his entire salary plus $9.8 million. Also, that price is astronomical for 1 WAR.
  19. The problem I have with this idea is that Danks actually added value last year, and LaRoche didn't. I think I've seen the theory here before that each additional WAR a player produces is worth about $5 million AAV on a contract. If that's the case, Danks earned $9 million of his contract last year. LaRoche, on the other hand, would need to pay his entire salary plus $7 million back to the team for his performance last year. That's why I think if they can't trade him, they should seriously consider releasing him, and they should not let his contract enter into their decision on pursuing other FA/trade options.
