  1. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) As a fan, would you rather be at a game that was 20-6 or 1-0? I think that I would choose the 20-6 game only because of the constant excitement, even though I do love a pitcher's duel. I'd take the safe lead every time if we're talking about the White Sox. If we're talking about a game not featuring the Sox, I'll take the 1-0 game.
  2. I think this game is a perfect example of the old baseball saying "These things always even themselves out". In August of 2005, Freddy Garcia pitched an absolute GEM where he carried a no-hitter late into the game. He gave up only one hit in the game, and lost 1-0. (One of the many reasons I hate Johan Santana) I'd say yesterday's game evens that one out.

    Jenks

Is there any closer with better pure stuff than Jenks? Before answering, consider Jenks's known repitoire of pitches: 95-102 MPH Fastball 95-99 MPH Cutter 88-91 MPH Slider (I know he hit 96 with it last night, but unless I see that again, it's an abberation IMO) 82-88 MPH Curveball
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) It's hard for the common fan to appreciate a guy who strikes out a lot and doesn't play the field, which is why Thome will never get the love he should. But anybody that hits in the .280's with 50/135 type numbers and walks a ton (over .400 OBP) is a legend in my book, I just wish everybody else saw it that way. Huh? Isn't that the type of guy the common fan loves?
  5. Did anyone else notice that Bobby threw a slider up there at 96 MPH tonight?! Granted, he had no control over the thing, but that's just sick.
  6. I liked the 20-6 demolition in the first game, because it showed just how unbeatable the White Sox are when they're on.
  7. I loved the way Rowand played CF for the Sox, but Anderson is on pace to have an historic year defensively. His defense has been so good thus far this season that it has compensated for his bat to the point that even by the stats, Anderson is a better choice than Mackowiak in CF right now, and this is when Mack has 200+ points of OPS on Brian. Unquestionably the answer has to be Brian Anderson IMO.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Relax. I think the Sox get almost 3000 grand a pop for letting a kid do the lineups for two innings.... They get $3 mill a pop? DAMN, that's a lot of scratch!
  9. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) I When did Ozzie Guillen start talking like a Russian?
  10. QUOTE(jenksd @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) I picked a good f***ing game to go to. Start going to every game. Even road games.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Last year I would have loved to have Jr., this year I want him no where near this team.
  12. The only name I've heard thus far is Aubrey Huff.

    Smoltz

QUOTE(BFirebird @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) This may sound weird but I think if Smoltz goes anywhere it will be Detroit. He is from Detroit, the have some bullpen to give ATL....like Zumaya or Rodney and some other young players the Bravos could like. Watch for the Tigres to look to add another starter in my opinion. A Zumaya for Smoltz deal would be awesome... ...for the White Sox.

    Smoltz

I think this is a pipe dream.
  15. Sounds good. I hope he can throw in the 93-95 range as I've heard. What I've seen of him was in the 89-91 range.
  16. For those dreaming of Crawford, I think those chances just went down significantly today: Gathright to Royals for Howell
  17. The sad thing is that even with the huge discrepancy in VORP, Anderson is still the better choice in CF when defense is considered. On the season thus far: Anderson's VORP (-8.3) + FRAA* (+10) = +1.7 Mackowiak's VORP (+4.4) + FRAA* (-3) = +1.4 That means Anderson's defense is so much better than Mackowiak's that the defensive difference more than makes up for Anderson's sub mendoza line bat at a time when Mackowiak has an average that's 100+ points higher and an OPS that's 200+ points higher. That says a lot about Mackowiak's awful defense, but also says a lot about Anderson's defense, which is definitely Gold Glove caliber. *FRAA = Fielding Runs Above Average
  18. How did "Yes" get 5 votes? 5 Philly or Detroit fans?
  19. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I got crawford for Scotty, and a minor league shortstop in MLB the show......I think when i did this scotty was hitting .160 in real life Excellent. Let's offer that then. If it happened in a video game, it's bound to be acceptable in real life.
  20. QUOTE(brijames @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) The Tigers are playing with a ton of confidence right now and everything is going their way. They are due to hit some rough spots soon and then we will see just how much solid character they have on the team. The Sox need to only keep close, no double digit game lead, and we will see who can handle the pressure in Aug and Sep. Remember the Sox had about as much pressure as you can get last year down the stretch, and how did that work out? Like this:
  21. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) This thread is ridiculous, but I'll put good money that Tabata won't be in the majors for any team in 2008. At least not opening day. I'm with you on that one. He'll be 19 in 2008, and he's in low A ball now.
  22. I think that's what's known as a joke.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) I'll settle for the Wild Card if we must, and then just destroy the Tigers in the postseason as we have so far this year. I like the way you think.
