At least he made up for it. How can you do that? -
Swiss cheese? You want to actually look at his splits here? Alexander vs. Sub .500 teams in 2005 (10 games): 235 carries 1255 yards 5.3 YPC 125.5 YPG 22 TD Alexander vs. .500 or better teams in 2005 (6 games): 135 carries 625 yards 4.6 YPC 104.1 YPG 6 TD That doesn't look too bad, but one of those games against .500+ teams was against the Colts when they sat FIVE defensive starters and treated the game like a preseason game. In that game, Alexander got 139 yards and 3 TDs. Take that away, and you're left with: 114 carries 486 yards 4.2 YPC 97.2 YPG 3 TD in 5 games So against legitimate competition that played to win the game, Alexander averaged less than 100 yards and less than 1 TD per game. That's not what MVPs do, especially when you have candidates like Manning, Palmer, and Brady, who were all able to produce at about their season averages if not better against legitimate competition.

Gooch hits a GW Grand Slam to save the Sox from going DOWN 0-2 to this joke of a team? :puke

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Was he that highly sought after that the move had to be made so fast? I know that most teams would like to get a coach in so they can pick up the rest of their coaching staff, but I didn't know Childress was such a hot commodity. He's been a hot commodity for years now.

Best college game ever, including Ohio State-Miami in 2002 which is a close 2nd.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Come on, dude. Alexander is a monster RB. Could you imagine him on the Bears? I would just about cream my shorts. I never expected to enter this thread and read about how he didn't deserve to win the freaking MVP award after he set the all-time record for TDs in a season. Look at his gamelogs: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187382/gamelogs/2005 He did nothing against the good teams (not counting the Colts, who didn't play 5 starters on defense and weren't trying to win the game). Also, Seattle runs to the left far more than they do to any other direction, but that has nothing to do with Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson, right?
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) He deserves it. Manning really wasn't the Colts MVP. I'd given that nod to James this year. I have to disagree. When James was doing all the heavy lifting for the offense, it was because teams were playing to not let Manning beat them. Once they stopped doing that, Manning put up similar numbers to what he had last year. There is no other QB in the NFL that could run the Colts' offense IMO, and certainly no one else could make it as efficient as Manning does. To me, that makes him the MVP of the Colts at the very least.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) I wouldn't go that far. Alexander is a great running back and any other year he would deserve it. This is the wrong year. There's a reason the Seahawks run to the left over 50% of the time, and that reason would be the 2 future HOF lineman on that side. That and the fact that Alexander disappeared against the good teams of the NFL are reason enough to not give the award to him IMO.
-
Why didn't they just give the award to Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson? Those two are responsible for pretty much everything Alexander did this season.
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) As long as Indy gets up early on any opponent, they will be hard to beat. That is when the DEF steps up and attacks. I think they scored a TD first in almost all of their wins, and the other team scored a TD first in their losses. So that seems like the key. Actually, if you're going to base your plan of attack on the Colts losses this year, then you better make sure they aren't playing players that could play, they don't really need the game, and your team does really need the game. That's how they've been beaten this year.

I know it might be a little early for this.

Pope should be a late 1st/early 2nd pick. I really think he'll be the best overall TE from this draft. Also, Ernie Sims declared! -

What was the compensation for the Jets? -
Here's a shocker: the Colts fan says the Colts would win. The Bears defense is the best in the league, but in the 13 games where the Colts actually played to win, the defense gave up an average of just under 14 points per game. The unit that would end up making the difference in this matchup would be the Colts offense, which is probably the best offensive unit in the NFL, and averaged 30 points in those same 13 games. The Colts have the best pass protection unit in the NFL, which would take away one of the Bears' major strengths, and since Lovie Smith came from Tampa Bay in the days of Tony Dungy, the Bears run almost the exact same defense as the Colts, so Manning will have seen pretty much every look the Bears have ahead of time in practice. Thus, I think he could beat even that defense for a significant amount of points, and I think the Bears' offense simply wouldn't be able to match the offensive output of the Colts.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Scott Sullivan - 34 737.1 IP, 281 BB, 622 K, 3.98 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, .244 BAA Felix Rodriguez - 33 557.0 IP, 267 BB, 497 K, 3.51 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, .238 BAA Jeff Nelson - 39 782.0 IP, 423 BB, 827 K, 3.41 ERA , 1.35 WHIP, .223 BAA Paul Quantrill - 37 1255.2 IP, 336 BB, 725 K, 3.83 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, .292 BAA Julian Taveras - 32 1081.1 IP, 413 BB, 626 K, 4.33 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, .281 BAA I like those guys. Taveras was pretty good for the Cardinals the past year or two, Quantrill might have a year or two left, Nelson's slider will always get some hitters out, and Roriguez and Sullivan have good stats for releivers. Anyone else think Kenny brought Redding in to compete for that final pen spot? That's about the only reason I can think of for the Sox to sign him.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Not a big deal to me. When the Sox repeat, maybe THAT will be big enough news to get the main cover photo. Unless the Manning Brothers are squaring off that week, of course...... I'm a Colts fan, but I don't mind saying that I was extremely pissed when that issue came to my house. I couldn't believe (still can't) that the Sox didn't get the cover.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) besides, how many impact tight ends are in football? That depends on how you define "impact". I can think of quite a few TEs that are a very important part of their respective offenses. Antonio Gates, Jason Witten, Tony Gonzalez, Chris Cooley, Dallas Clark, Heath Miller, Jeremy Shockey, and Alge Crumpler are names that come to mind immediately. -

Vernon Davis may go high. Even if he doesn't, he projects more as a WR than as a TE IMO (with his size and speed, he'd be a Moss/Owens hybrid I think). Personally I think Leonard Pope will be the most complete TE (able to block and catch) from this class. The Bears should look at him when they pick (should be in the mid-late 20s). As for the Colts (my team), I'm still hoping that Ernie Sims declares. He or Thomas Howard would make an excellent choice for the Colts (hopefully) at 32. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Then why do SABR-heads discount wins by a pitchers and compare lame stats like BABIP or DiPS? Because a pitcher can be average and get 20 wins (see: Andy Pettitte in 2003), or they can be great and get fewer than 15 wins (see: Roger Clemens in 2005). In other words, the win stat for pitchers is far too dependent on factors that the pitcher can't control.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) WTF? Your Results: Timo Perez's critical flyout in the Bottom of the 8th of Game 1 of the ALDS vs Boston. This flyout propelled the Chicago White Sox to a 14-2 win and eventually a World Series Championship. You are barely even known and sometimes get carded to enter your own house. People like to use your name in palindromes. OMIT TIMO. -

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Boston has Lowell for two seasons. Correct me if I'm worng, but isn't he moving to 1B? If so, trading Marte would open a hole at one of the corner infield positions for them.
