QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) If he lands us Joe Nathan, Fransico Lirano, and Boof Bonser, then yes. But we don't have Joe Mauer waiting in the wings...

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) Wells has only a slight advantage over Rowand in power? Rowand has not shown that he can hit 25-30 homers every season like Wells has. Rowand has the ability to hit 20-25, especially in the Phillies' Park, and besides, I put Marte in the deal as well.
-
Here's my opinion on this: Rowand and Wells are pretty close to equal in value, with Wells having a slight advantage in power. The Jays turned down a Wells for Abreu swap, which would suggest that the Phillies offered that or something similar to it. Therefore, I would think that a Rowand and Marte for Abreu and cash swap would be a viable option for the White Sox, regardless of the Konerko situation. That trade would set up the following situations: Brian Anderson would inherit CF, Abreu would likely be the everyday RF while doing some DH duties, and Dye would be the primary DH. That would make for a minimal downgrade (if at all) in defense with a sizeable offensive upgrade. That's definitely something to consider IMHO.

Teh Colts are teh r0X0RZ!!!1!111!!1!1!1!11!!!!! No fukin way they lose d00d! Seriously though, I'd really rather not think about it as a Colts fan.

So no chance Konerko comes back as the 1B with Matsui as the 4th OF/DH?
-
Is there any chance the Sox are able to keep Konerko and sign Hideki Matsui? That would be a good scenario for the Sox IMO.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Denver CAN win in Indy. They did it with the Q Griffin game at the end of 03 where they had the ball for about 41 minutes. I think they are constructed to be more competitive against them now as the Indy passing game has taken a step backwards. Whether they beat Indy or not, they are as good as anybody in the AFC and could go to2toe with Pittsburgh. The Giants are probably the team I am now pickign to win the NFC because they just have so many weapons on offense. Their D is obviously not the team that played Washington OR the D that gave up 45 to SD. Denver ran for about 190 on them so there are certainly defensive concerns. If they can hold teams to 20 or so points, they are in every game. I just don't know that they are a team built to win in January right now. It took a herculean effort from the Broncos against a far weaker Colts defense for the Broncos to win that game. The Colts went on to prove how much of a fluke that game was just 2 weeks later. Now, the Colts have a better defense that combines with an offense that is just as good as the 2004 version if not better due to their improved patience. You say that the passing game has regressed for the Colts? Name one other team that has faced constant 2 deep 8 man zones, and has still had the same type of success the Colts have had in 2005 in their passing game. You'd be hard pressed to find one, if you could at all. The fact that while teams are trying to take away the Colts' biggest strength, they are still in the top 3 league wide in scoring offense tells me that this offense is as good, if not better, than any offense they've fielded recently. Add to that a much improved defense led by MVP candidate (that's right, I said MVP candidate) Dwight Freeney, and you have a recipe for disaster for any opposing team. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) They hired Ed Wade... Okay, let me rephrase... Do you really think the Phillies will make the same mistake twice in a row?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) If we don't resign Paulie, I'll be advocating a trade for Ryan Howard. Do you really think the Phillies will hire an insane GM?

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Marte - traded El Duque - traded? Frank - retired/bench Willie Harris - bench LOL Manny - pipe dream -
I'd like to see an upgrade at the DH position via trade (hopefully something involving Marte & El Duque), but I think Anderson might get the spot. As for free agency, I'd like to see the Sox pursue one of the big name relievers. Couldn't hurt to make a strong pen even stronger.

Will Bush Invite the Team to the White House?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) That was one Hell of a team. Sucks that we have to say that now. Anyone else want to see this team play more? -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) Unfortunately, Eyre the best LHRP out there, is probably going to get a nice 2 or 3 year deal. Billy Wagner, B.J. Ryan, and Eddie Guardado would take offense to that. As for what the Sox should do this offseason, improve the DH spot (though I think we'll end up with Anderson there), and sign another good reliever.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) f***ing Broncos should have a 7 game winning streak. @Miami Lost 10-34 San Diego Won 20-17 Kansas City Won 30-10 @Jacksonville Won 20-7 Washington Won 21-19 New England Won 28-20 @N.Y. Giants Lost 23-24 Philadelphia Won 49-21 I think that they'll win a minimum of 5 games out of their last 8: @Oakland (Coming Off A Bye) W N.Y. Jets W @Dallas L @Kansas City L Baltimore W @Buffalo W Oakland W @San Diego L 8-0 at home, and 3-5 on the road. I still can't believe that they lost in Miami. Otherwise, they'd have a great shot at 12 wins. 11-5 for the Broncos would mean Shannahan would finally get his first post Elway win in the playoffs, but they'd still get cut down by the same buzzsaw that took them out the last 2 years. -
Does anyone else see Brian Anderson as the White Sox 2006 DH/4th outfielder?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) Peavy >>>>> B-Mac All I said was he had similar stats. I hope you're wrong about this though.
-
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:37 AM) He got roasted in a couple of his starts at the major league level. BMac has shown more promise than him at the majors level so far IMO. I read somewhere that they're believed to have similar value, potential, etc. I agree, as McCarthy has similar stats to Jake Peavy, but with more control.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:27 AM) Actually he is just a prospect right now lol and didnt really do anything great in the majors yet so lets hold off calling him Johan Santana jr. I've heard him called that before, and I can see the validity in the comparisons. That said, I'd love that nickname to be proven wrong and for him to be a huge bust.
-
Don't you think having Manny Ramirez looming on deck would make Konerko a much better hitter? I do. I don't however think that having Konerko on deck would make Manny a better hitter. This is my logic for putting Konerko in the 3 hole. It maximizes the potential of the lineup IMO.
-
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) I know they will contend for the division again with us and the Indians...that's for sure Those fockers are not going anywhere. Santana is freaking too good to let that happen. Then there's Johan Santana Jr., known better by the name of Fransisco Liriano.
-
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Correct because you want to protect Manny with Konerko, and not Konerko with Manny. Plus, when possible, its nicer to have the faster of the two hitters hit 3rd. Not that there is any speed to be had with Manny and Paulie! Wouldn't you pay a dollar for a ppv footrace? Why would you want to protect the better hitter with the worse hitter (not saying Konerko's a bad hitter, but anyone would have to admit Manny is a better hitter)?
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) Your best hitter bats third. Manny is more of a #3 hitter and Konerko is more of a cleanup hitter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Manny bat 4th with the Red Sox? Why would they do that? They'd do it to make a good hitter like David Ortiz (or Paul Konerko) even better.
-
This should be interesting.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Manny would bat third and Konerko would bat fourth. Manny needs Konerko's protection?
