If it comes down to McCarthy vs. El Duque, it will be the classic talent vs. experience argument. Give me talent any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Idea... Do a montage of walkoff homeruns, hits, game saving catches, etc. Play "Hero" by Chad Kroeger in the background.

5) Live from New York, it's the Aaron Rowand show. If the Yankees could've pronounced his name, Rowand (known as "Roland" by most of the Yankees) would've made a name for himself with his glove. 4) Jon Garland, Staff Ace. There was a time when this wasn't a ludicrous suggestion. To me, it was right after he made the consecutive starts against the Orioles and Rangers in which he struck out two of the most dangerous hitters in the AL in Tejada and Soriano, both on 3-2 counts, both with runners on first and third, and both while protecting a 3-2 lead to get out of his 7th and final inning of each start. 3) "And the White Sox lead it..." The amazing streak to start the season in which the White Sox held the lead in 48 consecutive games. No one has ever done it to start the season, and only the 98 Yankees had a longer run of leading games. 2) "AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER! A WALK OFF HOMER BY..." Okay, I'm going to cheat here. How can you top A.J. Pierzynski's June 18th walk off job against the Dodgers? You can't, but Joe Crede's solo shot in the bottom of the 10th on September 20th to give the Sox a 7-6 win over the Tribe tied it. Two great, jubilation producing homers that all of White Sox nation enjoyed. 1) "2005 AL Central champions...YEEEEEEEEES!" Nothing the Sox have done thus far tops taking down the division that critics and doubters were starting to believe the Sox couldn't win. Congratulations to the 2005 AL Central champions. Here's hoping for 14 more wins!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) I hate to offer this because I really like the guy, but . . . would you rather have in the 7th inning of a tight playoff game at Yankee Stadium Duque or BMac? The fast reply is BMac, but if experience means anything, maybe that isn't the best call. BMac. I'm of the school of thought that will take talent over experience any day.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) Hmmm, are you sure about that? Are you some kind of insider or something? How do you know that the Chargers brass wouldn't cream their shorts upon hearing of a Tomlinson for Benson/Jones deal? I know I would. If that trade ever happened, all Charger fans would suffer simultaneous strokes/heart attacks. -

Actually what I pointed out there illustrates the point that the Steelers blew that game. Any team that has a +2 in turnover differential for the game and has 100 gift yards handed to them is going to win more often than not in the NFL, regardless of which team it is. Randle El is entirely to blame for the loss. That attempted lateral was 3-7 points taken off the board for the Steelers, and they lost by 3. Also, he had a few crucial drops like you said. If any one player can ever be blamed for a loss, it's Randle El in this game. -
Well, I had to go with the choice I truly believed in, and I do like grape juice, so that's why I voted that I like grape juice.

Weis, Crennel, Andruzzi, Bruschi, and now Harrison. This is simply too much to overcome for any team, regardless of who they are/have.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) lmao, I never stated I was smarter than anyone, you made that assumption on your own. The Patriots outgained the Steelers by 33%, and held the second leading rusher in the league to 55 yards. You have watched Ben play a game against the Patriots, I've seen him play every game in his career, he's dramatically different when he plays the Patriots for whatever reason. The Steelers were beaten in field position, field goals, punt returns, rushing, passing by 156 yards, and sacks. If you can't see thats domination, then I don't know what to tell you. In the NFL these days, thats about as bad as it gets. I and other Steelers fans know something drastic has to change before the Steelers will beat the Patriots when it counts. Steelers were horrible in the 2nd half, amassing 60 total yards until the 2 minute warning when the 40 yard PI was called. This was with the Patriots on a makeshift OL and without Rodney Harrison, and Teddy Bruschi. You do know the Steelers had a +2 turnover differential and had far fewer penalties for FAR fewer yards, right? By all rights, they should've won that game. The only thing that stopped them was the STUPIDEST boneheaded play I've ever seen, and I witnessed Aaron Brooks's backwards pass. You can place this loss squarely on the shoulders of Antwaan Randle El if you're a Steelers fan, because he lateraled it right to them. That play was game changing, because it took a scoring oppurtunity off the board for the Steelers, and it gave the Pats the momentum. -
Sign Furcal, any good offensive 3B that is available (I've heard Mora and Chipper Jones may be available), possibly trade for another good hitter, and give Anderson a chance to win the starting CF job from Rowand.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) It's really down to 6 and root for the Yankees. Boston and NY play at the end of the season, so there are 3 [guaranteed] losses to be distributed between the two of them. NY can win 99 games if they win all of their remaing games, and Boston can win 98, but they can't do that at the Same time. Here are the most wins they can finish with. Series Most possible Wins Result Boston NYY NY Sweep 95 99 NY wins 96 98 Bos Wins 97 97 Bos Sweep 98 96 If the Sox win 6 games, they will have 97 and guarantee at least a 3-way playoff. They take care of business against Minnesota (who just shut down Radke) and Detroit (who just shut down Bonderman) and they will have a spot locked up before they go to Cleveland. If a spot is locked up BEFORE Cleveland, then only 1 win will be needed at the Jake.

How about that Colts defense? They are the #1 scoring defense in the NFL, allowing only 5 points per game while amassing 9 sacks (2nd in the NFL) and 4 turnovers (T-11th in the NFL) in the 2 games so far. Sure, they may not have played the most high powered offenses in the world, but you can only play who they put on your schedule, and the Colts have played those 2 teams very well, holding each to less points than they got when the teams played in 2004. Speaking of the schedule, they have quite an easy stretch coming up. This team quite possibly could go into their next game against a tough opponent 7-0 and well rested. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) They're not alone, they're tied with the Lions 1-1 with the Bears holding the tie breaker in head-to-head matchups 1-0. The NFC North is officially up for grabs with the Packers sucking immensely and the Vikes looking even worse. The Bears' destruction of the Lions today probably puts them as the favorites to win this s*** division even if it is only 2 weeks in. Holding the tiebreaker puts the Bears in sole possession of 1st place. That's why it's called a tiebreaker, and why it's so important to have. -

So the Bears are alone atop the NFC North. How long will that last? Great game by the Colts' defense today. 10-3 Colts over any team is something I never thought I'd see. The offense needs to find itself, but it appears the defense is in overdrive, which is a good thing. -
QUOTE(TribeRules @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Might want to actually play the team you're 3-10 against before you start talking s***. 3.5 Can turn into 6.5 REAL fast.

I think he had an extremely poor choice of words, but his message was that the people of NO want to see the Saints play, and win, and for that part, he is right. Even the players who visited the Astrodome and other places where they are keeping flood victims (they're not refugees, don't call them that) have said that the fans asked them to win. Stupid? Yes. Arrogant? Probably not.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Anybody else listen to ESPN Radio on Mondays at 5 in Chicago? They have Monday Night John, the guy sounds exactly like Madden and is hysterical. He, realistically, is obsessed with Bret Favre too. I can't stop laughing because MJH cant stop laughing either. GREATEST radio segment EVER!

Well half of Notre Dame's job is done. Now all that's left is to lose to Purdue.
