QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) (Sad thing is, it'll be posted many, many more times, and still some posters won't be clear about it.) What's sad is that I know you're absolutely right about that.

Not a chance. He's on the 40 man, and thus would have to clear waivers prior to being traded, and there's no chance Brian Anderson clears waivers.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) You probably think that the offense has been stellar all year long and this is just a recent think as of this series. In April we hit .255 as a team Our opponents are held to .229BAA 20% of our runs are via the dong In May we hit .254 as a team Opponents held to .252BAA 29% of the runs are via the dong Big Frank comes back In June we hit .271 as a team Opponents held to .241BA 28% of our runs are via the dong In July we hit .279 Pitching starts to slip. Opponents batting .275BAA 24% of our runs are via the dong Frank is on the DL In August we hit .234 Our opponents are held to .254BAA 40% of our runs are via the dong in August We need a bat like Griffey in the lineup I don't think the offense has been "stellar" all year long, far from it, however, I also don't think that our offense has been horrible either. They've been about average, and with the stellar pitching that the White Sox have had for most of the season, that's all it has needed to be. I wouldn't call allowing a .275 BAA great either, and the pitching was part of the reason the Sox had trouble in July. Obviously, the hitters have had trouble this month, and that's why the team is struggling now. However, I don't feel the need to say that everyone on this team sucks just because of a few bad games, and there isn't a logical reason as far as I'm concerned for saying such things.
-
Why be negative when there is very little to be negative about? Every time there's a slump, up go 50 threads about "(insert player's name here) needs to go!" or "Our offense sucks and can't score any runs!" or "KW needs to get Griffey here YESTERDAY!". Players are going to have streaks where they're good, and streaks where they're bad. If a few players go on bad streaks at the same time, the team might lose a few games in a row, but obviously this team is capable of winning, or they wouldn't have the best record in the AL (and in baseball if St. Louis lost today), and a commanding lead in the Central.
-
Now I'm "sipping the kool aid" because I'm confident that the best team in baseball since April will come out of a slump that has taken place while one of the teams most important players who produces a great deal of runs has been on the DL? Okay, I guess I'm just a homer fan with no idea of how baseball works. You guys are right, the Sox are going to go into the playoffs and get their asses handed to them, no contest.
-
Our offense sucks, our starters suck, our bullpen sucks, everything sucks. Our guys were really lucky to ever even have the best record in baseball. The pitchers were performing WAY above their heads, and the hitters can only play corpse ball. All they EVER do is pull baseball, pull baseball, pull baseball. As soon as the playoffs start, the season is over, because the pitching can't cut it and neither can the hitting. It's only a 5 game losing streak. I'm sure every team has had one this season. It's not the end of the world, it's just a slump.

I wonder if he'll ever be able to start at the ML level. He proved tonight that he can throw his heat for at least 3 innings, and he's still very young. If he could start down the road, he'd help make the Sox rotation even more formidable. I know the Sox see him as their future closer and that he's had trouble in starting roles in the minors, but other prospects whose organizations viewed them as closers have become starters after having problems in starting roles.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) I would never side with the devil: Jay Marrioti. So you're saying Lew Ford isn't the devil?
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Honel or Hernandez(our only decent C prospect) are guys being talked about in place of Rogo. I say do that if they'll take him.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) You're telling me! I've been worried about a potential collapse for a few months now, and everyone knows I'm worried that it's not a sure thing we'll make the playoffs. Does it have to be a mathematical certainty before you'll be convinced?

Chris Young is an awesome hitter. This season, he's just about on the same clip as Delmon Young. I certainly hope he continues that trend.
-
I find this feud funny. It's like watching a train wreck. They're both just going to keep taking shots at each other until one or the other goes away. Until then, on with the train wreck!
-
Why not? Just turn Rogo into a PTBNL for now and it's the same deal. They get guys who could end up replacing Griffey and Casey, and they get a huge contract off their hands. Other than their stupid owner, I can't see a reason why they wouldn't do this. Griff has said he would come here, and you know KW is dying to make a big move, so I don't see any reason this couldn't happen. If it doesn't, blame Carl Lindner.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...x.jsp?content=1 I guess this means Chris Young and Brian Anderson aren't any good. Yeah. For a second there I got my hopes up on Chris Young, considering he's playing at Delmon Young's level right now (they're both 20/20, Delmon has a higher BA, while Chris has a higher OBP, even when Delmon's AAA stats are added to his AA stats). Boy, was I wrong. Well, at least we have Ryan Sweeney.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Ok, let me add a little more then just No. You don't lay down ever, that's just ridiculous and sends the message that you're scared. Would I prefer to play a different team in the playoffs? Sure I would, but the playoffs are a different game and I'd have confidence in our guys to beat Oakland. It's not like they wouldn't have a mental hurdle to overcome either, if this was the first round matchup from our side we'd be hearing how the A's own us and from their side they'd be hearing how they can't get out of the first round. Is this something that's baseball specific? I've never heard of resting starters to go into a playoff game (which basically means handing the opponent the game) showing that you're scared. For example, last year the Colts and Eagles had nothing to play for in their final game of the year, so they both chose to rest all of their starters for the playoffs. That's not being scared, that's being smart, because by not playing their starters, they were assured that their starters would be healthy for the following game. Both lost those games, and the Colts cost the Jaguars a playoff spot, but they did the right thing for their team. If the White Sox have nothing to play for when those games roll around, I'd rather see the starters be rested, healthy, and ready for the playoffs than playing and risking injury and fatigue in the playoffs. If that means the Sox let the Indians sneak in, so be it, but they'd be doing what's best for their team.
-
123! There's 49 games left, so if the Sox play 1 game under from here on out (24-25), they'll go 98-64. 26-23 is not very much to expect from this team, so I'll say 100-62 will be the Sox final record.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) I still say the twins catch the A's. They have always been a september team. I just don't believe in Oakland. I don't think the Twins have the firepower to come back, especially with no Torii Hunter. The 2 teams that have a chance to catch the A's (given they fall back out of 1st in the AL West) are the Indians and Yankees. I wouldn't be afraid of any team the Sox might face in the postseason, because when they play their game, they're unbeatable. However, Oakland is the team I'd least like to face, because the Sox seem to hand them games. Think about the matchups earlier this year. There were at least 3 games in there that the Sox would normally win, but for some reason, the A's have some way to catch a break just when they need it, usually by way of a costly error. If the Sox play their game facing Oakland, they win, no question in my mind, but for some reason they just can't seem to get away from that costly error against them.

Is that Marion county?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) So some of you would be afraid to have Buehrle start the first game if we play the A's? I have confidence in him no matter who we play. I think he gives us the best chance to win that first game, and I don't want to waste any opportunities in a 5-game series. ^ What he said. I'm still waiting for Oakland to cool off. It has to happen eventually. When it does, hopefully the Yankees or Indians will step up and claim the WC. I just don't want to face Oakland. It's not that I don't think the Sox can beat them, because I've figured out over the course of the 113 games the Sox have played so far this season that if this team plays it's brand of ball against anyone, they'll win, but the way the Sox just handed Oakland at least 3 of the games that they played against them this year just bothers me.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I don't see him in person, but I'm certainly one of his largest fans here on the site, and I'll tell you right now he's not ready to help this club in any convincing way. You're probably right. When I see big numbers like Young is putting up, I want to see what he can do at the next level. That's why he's intriguing to me, especially when you consider that he's putting these big numbers up in a pitcher's park. Any chance he moves up to AAA or even the bigs with the September call-ups?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) The problem is that this is Young's 1st season above low A ball. Francouer IIRC spent the year before this one at AAA, or some part of it. It's more likely we see Anderson up here before Young. I'm hoping one or the other gets called up, and if either does, I know it's more than likely going to be Anderson. I'm just intrigued by Young, as the only thing he hasn't done in a pitcher's park at AA is post a good batting average. Everything else he's done there has been amazing. Before he went into his HR drought, he was challenging Delmon Young for the SL HR lead. I know Young is probably not going to get called up, but he is the most interesting option to me.
-
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) After tonight he is a 20/20 guy with 20 HR 20 SB Thanks for the update. Since you see him in person a lot more than most here, what do you think of the idea of the Sox calling up Chris Young?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) Anderson hasn't played for the past week down in Charlotte, hopefully it's nothing serious, because the way he's been swinging the bat, even though Charlotte is a hitter's park and his K/BB ratio needs serious improvement, he could have a Jeff Francouer like impact (and Francouer had worse stats than Chris Young in AA before he was promoted to the Braves). This is why I'd like to see Chris Young called up. He's nearly a 20/20 guy at Birmingham (18 HR, 20 SB), has a good OBP, a good BB/K ratio, good HR and gap power, and a decent average in a pitchers park. I'd like to see what he could do in a hitter's park like Comiskey.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) :fyou royals how the hell do you blow a 5 run lead in the ninth Commit an error on an easy popup to LF with 2 outs after giving up 4 runs and then give up 6 more runs after that.
