  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Umm. Detroit = I Rod. Not really. He's not having a great season, even by normal standards, plus the AL East will probably supply the two catchers.
  2. Detroit could send White, Guillen, Young, or Bonderman (listed in order I'd take them) Cleveland will probably send Hafner, but could also send Cliff Lee (#s are close to Garcia's, but slightly worse) Tampa Bay should send Cantu Kansas City doesn't deserve an all-star, but the closest thing they have is Emil Brown.
  3. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) no one really worries me on the Yankees. Rightfully so, as THEY'RE HARDLY EVEN IN THE WILD CARD RACE! Everyone needs to stop giving this $200 million failure too much credit.
  4. QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) yeah, but this popularity contest will determine whether there will be 3 or 4 World Series games at The Cell in November. IF they make it.
  5. The only team I can think of that has a competitive 1-2-3 to Buehrle-Garland/Garcia would be St. Louis's 1-2-3 of Mulder/Morris/Carpenter in any order, because one isn't much better than the other two, but all 3 are VERY solid.
  6. IMO, the only player that an argument can be made for other than Buehrle is A.J. The staff has improved by leaps and bounds this year, and the fact that almost every pitcher on the staff seems to be better this year than last year reflects on the effect that A.J. has had on them. I think Garland isn't a 12 game winner and Freddy has a much higher ERA if A.J. isn't here.
  7. If the Sox win the World Series, I want it to be against the best the NL has to offer. As of right now, that's the Cardinals.
  8. I think last night's outing was a huge confidence boost for him. His next 2-3 outings are crucial to his season. If he continues to succeed, he should be back. If he starts to struggle and turn back into Dingo, he should be sent down to get more work and figure out what's going wrong for him.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) Whatever happened to that "Ozzie will find a way to ruin that 3rd game" argument. Sure went to the "toilet" quick. Well, when you get some sweeps, that tends to happen.
  10. The Sox have the advantage in the pitching matchup in any series. The way Ozzie has managed the pen for the most part this season (though some may not like the way it's handled at times) should keep them healthy and ready to go come September, so as long as the starters stay healthy enough, there's no doubt in my mind that no team can match the Sox pitching staff. The problem arises when said pitching staff gets little to no run support. This is where the Sox could get in trouble in the playoffs. That would leave Boston and St. Louis as the two teams that worry me the most, as both have solid pitching staffs, and both have offenses that can put up big numbers for said pitching staffs. Anaheim doesn't worry me too much, because we played well against them, and as long as Vlad is held in check (not as easy feat to accomplish, but if any staff can, it's the White Sox staff), it's the same team. Just out of curiosity, who else wants to see a White Sox-Cardinals World Series?
  11. I couldn't find a thread talking about anything like this, so I made this one. The Sox are 26-5 against the AL Central, and here's the breakdown of W-L vs. each AL Central rival: 4-1 vs. Twins 6-3 vs. Indians 7-1 vs. Tigers 9-0 vs. Royals That's right, the Indians have more wins against the White Sox the the rest of the AL Central COMBINED. If this holds up throughout the season (highly unlikely I know), will it be the first time in MLB history that this has happened?
  12. I think after his past month, he's very deserving of a spot. Getting one, however, is an entirely different matter.
  13. Go with the guy with more wins than a 300 game winner (Maddux) at similar points in their respective careers. That of course would be the ace of the staff and hopefully starter of the all-star game, Mark Buehrle.
  14. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) Florida said they wanted a left handed OF and a MR? Those are some pretty specific requests, especially since I don't know why they'd be looking to trade him until they are out of contention. Are they just trying to rape another team in a trade like the Penny deal? If the latter is the case, I doubt our package would work. I'd think that if they were shopping him they'd get at least a better player than Everett, and/or a better reliever than Shingo. I think they want to rid themselves of the contract situation without losing too much ability to compete. As for the demands, I just read them the way I saw them, and it said they wanted ML level talent that included a starter, LH hitting OF, and MR. If they are trying to dump his situation on another team, and KW thinks he can ink Burnett long term, I think the Sox could get him here for that package or something similar but slightly better.
  15. SI did their midseason MLB report in their most recent issues, and the following awards were won by the following people: AL Manager of the Year - Ozzie Guillen AL Rookie of the Year - Tadahito Iguchi Deserved or undeserved? I really don't like when guys have been playing pro ball in Japan for a few years but are still classified as a rookie when they come to MLB, so I don't think Tadahito deserves the ROY award.
  16. Eh, I guess I'm just a Colts fan that doesn't like that "co-" there. Anyway, any chance Tadahito goes? Soriano is seriously slumping but Roberts is still on fire. Any chance they take 3 2Bs? They did take 4 or 5 SS a few years back IIRC.
  17. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Dam- Fisk number is already retired D'oh
  18. HUGE difference there. a 94 MPH slider is rare if it's ever existed, but a few guys have thrown 94 MPH sinkers.
  19. Uribe is an awesome defender. I'll take a lower average and a few more Ks than you'd want from your SS for his defense.
  20. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) I don't know where you're getting an MVP year in 2002 according to stats. McNair was a lot better in 2003 than 2002. In 2003 McNair was just as valuable to the Titans has Manning was to the Colts. McNair also had a better QB rating than Manning, a better TD to INT ratio than Manning and more yards per pass attempt than Manning. Honestly, who else did McNair have on offense, just Derrick Mason. Manning in 2003: 379-556 4267 yards 29 TD 10 INT 99.0 QB rating; 2-0 vs. Titans, won AFC South title McNair in 2003: 250-400 3215 yards 24 TD 7 INT 100.4 QB rating; 0-2 vs. Colts, 2nd place AFC South So you're saying a 1.4 point difference in QB rating and 3 less INTs (in less games) makes up for over 1000 less yards, 5 less TD, 2 losses to the Colts, and losing the division title to the Colts?
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) But McNair still had a steller year the next year. I don't think Konerko is really having a steller year. McNair hardly had a MVP worthy year, especially when compared to the other "co-MVP" that year. If Kong added .030 points to his average, everyone would cry snub were he not to make the AS game. He's close to the top in several other stat categories.
  22. For anyone who doesn't think Konerko deserves an all-star spot, I look at that situation the same way I look at Steve McNair's "co-MVP" of 2 seasons ago. He was royally snubbed the previous year, so they try to make it up by giving it to him the following year.
  23. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) I'm just thinking that they will want an outfielder that can be productive now and in the future for them. Everett is older and more expensive. Maybe, but I wonder if they'd get a better offer for him. Also, I wonder if they want to get rid of him given his contract situation.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) The problem is that we have NO clue if Burnett would re-sign long-term and if he did, would his injuries re-occur. If you're crazy about Schmidt, don't even talk about Burnett's injuries, because at least he seems to be past them. Same can't be said for Schmidt.
