  1. QUOTE(Be Good @ May 30, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Not Timo replacing Frank. I agree that a better replacement could have been found (Ozuna or Crazy Carol if you ABSOLUTELY MUST have the lefty vs. righty matchup), but Frank was hurt and needed to be replaced.

    B MAC

QUOTE(soxman35 @ May 30, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) i think we could win more games with him. I think he could be a great relever and i dont think he would be rotting away in are bullpen. He would be helping our team win games. Poor managing giveing him up. As others have said on this thread, McCarthy is a starter, not a reliever. Starters need to throw every fifth day and throw a lot of innings so that hopefully, when they come up, they'll be able to eat up innings and not allow the opponents to do much in the process. As a ML middle reliever, he'd be called upon sporadically to pitch anywhere from 1/3 of an inning to 3+ innings, which will not help him in any way to gain the experience he needs to start. He needs to get back down to AAA and get as much experience as a starter as he can rather than wasting away as a reliever in the bullpen.
  3. QUOTE(Be Good @ May 30, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Rangers, but where at the O's, the other Sox,and the Yankmees? Well, if you made the poll about all of those teams, people would have to be able to pick at least two. Also, I think the AL East is only going to produce one playoff team this year. I think one of the four teams listed above will win the WC, while two of them will win the Central and West, and one will be watching the fun from their couch.

    B MAC

QUOTE(soxman35 @ May 30, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Why dont we use B Mac as a Long Releaver pitcher :banghead When you have a young talent that is as good as he is, it's usually better to let him get experience at a lower level than to have him rotting away on the bench in a higher level. Then, when he does come up to the higher level, he won't ride the bench, he'll start and do better because of the experience he was allowed to get.
  5. As of now, it appears as if there will be four teams from the AL Central and AL West that will all be deserving of a playoff spot. Since there can only be three teams representing the AL Central and the AL West, which team misses the playoffs?
  6. Marte or Hermanson depending on the situation. Marte did a damn good job pitching out of that jam that Buehrle left, only to have Iguchi turn a double play ball into a bases loaded 1 out jam, and Hermanson could slam the door shut on any team right now, so either one is fine with me.
  7. I think he'll be in the 18-20 range IF he goes back to pitching the way he did in his first 8 starts. I'd take the over if I got the right odds though.
  8. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 29, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) if David Wright were traded from the Mets, their GM would be institutionalized the next day. As I said, the likelihood of acquiring those players is as great as the likelihood of Crede hitting .350 with 45 HR and 130 RBI.
  9. Some names no one has mentioned yet (probably because there's about as good a chance of getting them as there is of Crede hitting .350 with 45 HR and 130 RBI): David Wright Ryan Freel Chone Figgins Melvin Mora
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 29, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) Maybe the Sox should do the same thing to him as the Twins did to Santana. Send him back to the minors and tell him to throw the changeup constantly and hone it. Imagine that? Whatever he has to do to get to the point where he feels comfortable throwing the change at any time, he needs to do, because when I saw him dominating in the spring, he was using that changeup consistently and effectively. Does anyone know if there's some mental or physical reason he wasn't throwing it? Has he developed blisters from throwing it or was he just uncomfortable throwing it due to nerves or did the pitching coaches tell him don't throw it or what? It just seems odd to me that a pitcher wouldn't throw a pitch that he's had success with.
  11. McCarthy showed me that he's on the way to becoming a special pitcher, but he also showed me that he's got some more work to do down at AAA before that's going to happen. By the end of the season, maybe he'll be ready, but I'm glad he's going back to AAA to further his development. He seems to have a penchant for serving up the longball, something that he can hopefully correct before we see him at the ML level again. Also, did anyone else notice that he hardly ever threw his changeup? I didn't see him throw it at all, and when he pitched in spring training, that seemed to be a very good pitch for him.
  12. Is there any link where you can hear this after it's over? If not, could anyone give them that suggestion?
  13. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) How could anyone say no to this. I don't get it. I love BMac as much as the next guy but since when is he Roger Clemens. If you took out the name BMac's name in all these posts and left it blank and let someone read, I swear they would think you are talking about Clemens or f***ing Jason Schmidt or something. He had one fricking start that was relatively successful and now people would rather hold on to him than win a ring. WTF? It's ridiculous. Well, the question posed in this thread is ridiculous in the first place, so why would you expect a rational, reasonable answer to a ridiculous question? There is NO player that can guarantee the White Sox a World Series trophy, therefore the question becomes more of a "What would you trade him for?" scenario. My answer to that would be a young, franchise-type player, because that's what McCarthy appears to be on the track toward becoming. Has he produced at the Major league level yet? Not really, but how many 21 year olds do? As for trading him for a rental player, that would be extremely stupid IMO, because you will never see any franchise give up a top prospect like McCarthy (and he is one of the best prospects in baseball) for a player that they'll only have for 1/2 of a season. The Sox gave up one of their top prospects last year in Jeremy Reed in exchange for a guy who could have been a rental player in Freddy Garcia, but the Sox made sure he wasn't one by almost immediately signing him to a 3 year extension, because they wanted to make sure they didn't lose one of their best prospects for nothing (not to mention add a solid starter to the pitching staff for 3 more years). Any team who mortgages their future for one season in that fashion will pay for it in the long run, especially if the deal doesn't pay off for the one season.
  14. Well you should've known it was just a matter of time before someone was going to do a stupid pun with a nickname like Count!
  15. First, let me just say that the question posed at the beginning of the thread is invalid, as NO player can guarantee a team a World Series. Now, my answer to the question that you're trying to ask here is I would NOT even consider trading McCarthy for a rental player. If the Sox were to get a young, franchise-type player with little to no injury history that they'd sign to a long term deal in return, then I'd probably do it.
  16. Count needs to have a good start if the Sox are going to win this game. He needs to pitch at least 1...2...3...4...5...6...7 innings and give up 1...2 runs or less. That is unless the offense gets going.
  17. QUOTE(mreye @ May 25, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Ladies and gentlemen, Nostrodamus! You got that right. If you're going to define the term "Ace" by a player's performance in the current season (or past season if it's the offseason), then right now, Garland would be an "Ace", but if you define it by what a player has done in his career, Garland is certainly not an "Ace". Buehrle would be an ace no matter how you slice it IMO, because he is dominating right now, and anyone with 76 wins, and a +30 W/L differential in basically 4 1/3 years of starting in MLB is doing a damn good job, not to mention the fact that for over a season worth of starts, Buehrle has gone at least 6 innings.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 26, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) So tell me why was it Viz (Ozzie's love child) in there relieving BMac instead of Politte? You're up a few runs for some reason you decide to pull you rookie after he just recorded an out & what do you do? Bring in a guy who has HORRIBLE numbers at Wrigley Field in his career. Ozzie manages strangely sometimes. He plays the percentages with the wrong players and puts players in situations in which they've historically struggled. I don't know if he's trying to turn them around or if he just doesn't look at important numbers that he should know. Then again, as long as the Sox are the best team in baseball, Ozzie can do whatever he wants. As long as the Ws keep going up, I really don't care what he does.
  19. QUOTE(rudylaw @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Crede = AssMonkey WHAT?! Everone knows AssMonkey >>>>>>> Crede
  20. I'd love to go, but I can't get out to Colorado. Still, I expect a White Sox winner on my birthday, which is probably the opener of the series.
  21. No, but Kruk is right and Harold Reynolds made an ass of himself, as per usual (the Reynolds making an ass of himself part).
  22. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) My friend who is a huge Rangers fan came up with a trade The Sox would send Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede and B Mac for Mark Teixeira and Hank Blalock Take out ARow and BMac and put in Kong and maybe a decent spec and I'd do it.
  23. Yeah, some jackass Flubs fan had to email them about how he thought the Uribe play was unfair. What I liked about it was Wilbon and Kornheiser BOTH basically said the guy was an idiot and the play was legit.
  24. Well this is good news for the Sox. I hope Vladdy isn't too seriously affected and he comes back and plays well later on this season, but I'm glad he's not going to be in there against our guys.
  25. If you don't think the Sox are getting enough airtime now, just wait until they make their playoff run. ESPN will give them plenty of airtime as their analysts try to jump on the Sox bandwagon and talk about how they knew how good this team was all along.
