Everything in the gamethread from last night suggested he looked downright good for the first few innings before it all unraveled. Several comments about sitting 93-94 with command and that pitch working well, as well as having a much crisper curveball. I didn't watch the game last night, but from those who did, it didn't seem like his stuff was the problem, at least not early.

I'm personally a big fan of Adley Rutschman and hope the Sox are in a position to draft him next year if he continues to look as good as he does now.
-
I hear "unfucking pitching mechanics" is part of Don Cooper's job description. I also hear he's pretty good at his job.
-
The whole reason Washington traded him is they screwed up his mechanics.
-
For now. That could change next year, there are two very highly regarded catchers in the 2019 draft class in Adley Rutschman and Shea Langeliers.

That's just because he wants to JUST WIN, BABY! AND it would totally be possible if this cheapskate ownership group would just STOP BEING SO CHEAP and spend $100 million or so every offseason signing the right free agents, clairvoyantly picking which free agents are "the right free agents", of course, since most of free agency is a crapshoot statistically speaking.

Passan analyzes 2018-19 FA class, Harper vs. Machado

Heading into 2020 would be the better time to make a splash signing anyway. I think it would be hilarious if the White Sox signed Sale back after trading him, though I'd want at least 4 of these starters to develop for postseason purposes. -
Or maybe we let him work through being a Major League Starting Pitcher at the age of 23 and hope he develops to the point that those negative value pitches become positive value ones. Corey Kluber wasn't the Corey Kluber we know today that's won 2 Cy Young Awards until he was 28. Besides, it's not like there's anything at stake for the team this season, so you might as well see if development time will turn him into the player we hoped we were getting from Washington.

The whole point of extending now is to get a discount. If you can get him for 6/$90 after this year, for example (team control through 2024), then you're taking a risk that he'll blow out and you're on the hook for that money, but he's taking a risk of losing 3 prime free agency years if he does bounce back. Of course it's a gamble, but if you're unwilling to take calculated risks trying to build a championship baseball team, you're not going to build a championship baseball team.

Do they still have Cease as a 45 FV?

Do you think that a 70% POC district should be represented by a POC for the first time in its history? Do you think pro Wall Street, pro big Pharma Joe Crowley who is claiming it's "his destiny" to be in Congress and that he "can't help being born white" and that his opponent's campaign is "about race" and therefore "unnecessarily divisive" deserves to "crush" a candidate like Ocasio-Cortez, as you put it? Wait, you mean "Vote Blue No Matter Who" will never work for progressive because the centrists will just fill Congress with horrible, easily beaten Congressmen who will only get one term because of that strategy? How could anyone have possibly known that?

Gamecast had that ball 3 inches inside. How bad was it?
-
Well, they have to put all the pressure on Yoan.

If you extrapolate Covey's current numbers over 32 starts, that's a 5 fWAR pitcher. SSS, but hopefully he keeps it up.

@Reddy, thoughts on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Half of all Americans have nothing saved for retirement due to the financial pressures of everyday life. Even Fox (Fake) News can't deny it, though they still suggest fairly out of touch with reality solutions. Since you brought up 401k balances going up, who's really the one out of touch with the reality of the average American today? Don't worry, I'll expect no response to this post just like there was no response to the last one. I take it as your acknowledgement that I'm right.
-
Nah, they gotta throw in Andujar to sweeten that deal. Maybe even Florial for good measure.
-
Lol I posted something about Covey possibly going the distance and he gets yanked after giving up a single on the heels of a dominant 6 innings. Only had 83 pitches.
-
Is Dylan Covey really going to outpitch Chris Sale?
-
To be fair, if the MiLB gamecast is accurate, the ump is really squeezing him. I've seen 5 balls called this inning that gamecast had as strikes.
-
5(!) BB tonight. MLB hitters would make him pay for that.
-
Kopech on a roll. 5 Ks through 2. 30 pitches so far.

I really wish other teams hadn't caught on to Larnach and the Sox could've snagged him in Round 2. I hope the Twins trade him.

Okay, so maybe that's not an indicator of his bat control. That doesn't take away from scouts having put 80s on his bat speed and bat control, or that he simply does not strikeout, or that every time I've seen him play, he makes good contact with the ball.
