Draft Profile: 2B Nick Madrigal, Oregon State
Dam8610 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
If he has plus defense at SS and 2B, he could always move to 3B to accommodate if need be. A similar move with Bregman worked really well for the Astros. -
It's time to talk about the Sox young pitching
Dam8610 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
ERA is predictive, just less predictive than FIP or xFIP. -
Or perhaps someone who was himself abused and didn't know any better. That's the most common way children become sexual offenders.

I hope there's some way the Sox can get Madrigal and Larnach. I'd also take Heimlich, but I can understand why many wouldn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole. That said, it makes for a great value opportunity in, say, round 15 or something.

Yes, because overreaction is totally rational.

I can't see them passing on a good player because they believe they have the position filled. He can play other positions, probably well.

This team looks that bad right now, but that's with no Moncada, and reinforcements in Rodon, Kopech, and Eloy on the way. I think this team will look a lot better in August than it does now, and I think Eloy and Kopech will force the issue and get to MLB this year.

Kopech Ks the side in the first.

I'm right there with you on that one (well, not 3 years, but since last year's draft). I know a lot of people want to avoid making this comparison, but I see a lot of Jose Altuve in his game. I even saw a video of Altuve hitting in High A, his mechanics then and Madrigal's now are stunningly similar. Of course, we can't count on Madrigal developing that level of power, but at least he has the perfect example to try to study and learn from. -

No, but it's certainly a possibility. It's not like he doesn't have the speed or arm for it. -
Yeah, she's not any of those things. She's another shock value "conservative" (who conveniently was liberal until she started working for a conservative media outlet) who is only there to get paid. Like Soxbadger said, what does she stand for? She certainly has some things to say about the Democratic Party and slavery, mostly wrong, uninformed, missing the point things, but those are things she's against, not things she supports.

Really Kanny's whole rotation could be promoted. They're all performing well.

I'm okay with every pick after 4 being a high school player, but I want a college bat at 4.

I would hope Singer would be an underslot deal. Getting him would already be disappointing enough. I think India on a huge discount (like 11th or 12th pick money) is the best play if the first 3 picks are the nightmare scenario of Mize, Madrigal, Bohm, much like what happened to the Sox last year at 11. If any of those three are available, the Sox should take them. Beyond that, I'm for a huge India underslot or a smaller McClanahan underslot. I'm starting to warm to the idea of Bart since the org is finally showing some ability to develop a hit tool. I'd be very disappointed walking away from the 4th pick with Singer, Kelenic, or Swaggerty.

I understand the argument, but if you have nearly unlimited power to do whatever you want to reality, why not just make resources enough that no one has to die and make their replenish rate fast enough that sustainability is never a problem again?

If they actually want to win in these areas, they need to make their message about fixing economic inequality and bringing opportunity back. The Democrats can be all about Social Justice on the coasts, but the winning message for them in places like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, the parts of Illinois that aren't Chicago, etc. is a message based on reducing economic inequality and providing the essentials to give everyone a good opportunity at the basic things people were easily able to attain prior to the 80s that have now become nearly impossible to attain for large swaths of the population.

Source: Rodon about to head out on Rehab assignment
Dam8610 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes his agent is Boras. So? Boras just had the worst winter of his life, and Rodon has experienced quite a few injuries as a major leaguer. Getting financial security might be important to Rodon at this point, and Boras isn't as likely to stop him after this past offseason. -
31% in low A vs. 26% in AA. That's a bigger difference than just the 5 percentage points. Plus, it appears Collins has morphed into a different hitter since changing his stance in late April. He's struck out much less since that, and put up about a 1.200 OPS in that timeframe.
-
I think I trust the Fangraphs guys more than anyone else out there, and they seem to be the highest on his defense.
-
Since he's 23, they should probably try pushing him to see if they have anything there.
-
Skoug has a far worse K problem than Collins, and it's manifesting at a lower level.
-
It seems a lot of people have soured some on Bohm. Why? 70 grade raw power with a 15%ish walk rate and under 10% K rate sounds good to me.
