  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Cubs had the young players to survive that and Chapman is a game-changer Is there a better closer on the market than Robertson?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) Easily Nats. Soto is a top 20 guy, you aren't getting him for a reliever See: Torres, Gleyber
  3. Robertson, Kahnle, Swarzak for Soto, Kieboom, Fedde. Who says no?
  4. I'd say 2020, but I also think they're going to have to be players in the post 2018 free agency class to make that happen. Hopefully everything breaks right developmentally with the current crop of prospects as well as the 2018 and 2019 Top 5 selections. If that's the case, competitiveness in 2020 will become dominance by 2022 or 2023.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Yes I WILL cut off my nose to spite my face That's what they just did...
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) I'm not so certain about that. Some scouts recently said Jimenez could end up being better than Moncada. Cease has been rocketing up prospects lists and features two plus pitches already. If the changeup develops he has frontline potential. Moncada + Kopech + Basabe + Diaz is a little bit better, but not by miles, than Jimenez + Cease + Rose + Flete I'd say we got 85-90% of the value we received for Sale, which is all we could ever hope for. The Cubs should've paid Chris Sale price for Jose Quintana is my point. And no, not because of "some silly rivalry", but because of the additional revenue and market share loss the Sox will suffer as a result of this trade, all of which is going to go directly to the Cubs.
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Dude. We got Eloy Jimenez, a consensus top 10 mlb overall prospect. Huge power potential. Dylan Cease has very good stuff and is only 21 years old. Add him into our mix of exciting young arms. The other two are lotto tickets. Quintana is an excellent pitcher, but we got a massive return...nearly as much as we did for Sale. Not really, Basabe and Diaz at least had some projection to them. Matt Rose is a 1B with low average and high K issues, not to mention an OBP below .300. Bryant Flete is a half step from org filler. Jimenez and Cease are exciting, but this is nowhere near the Sale package (as Jimenez and Cease are essentially Moncada-lite and Kopech-lite), and that's what the Cubs should've had to pay.
  8. Gut reaction is an asset like Q should never be traded to the Cubs, especially without them paying WELL over market value. Not sure how I feel about the return yet, want to do a deeper dig on the prospects before coming to a conclusion there.

  10. The Barons pitching staff is surprisingly good. Beyond Kopech, who has ace potential, you have Adams, Stephens, and Guerrero all with a decent chance to become MLB starters. The White Sox pitching depth in the minors is pretty incredible right now.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) What's interesting to me is that, looking at the other hugely desired piece, Benintendi is "only" heading for a 2.5ish fwar despite the pretty gaudy offensive numbers. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&page=1_30 Guys like Inciarte, Avi, Conforto, Turner, Gallo, Domingo Santana, Gamel, Kepler...all ranked higher. Heck, even Leury Garcia is at 1.6 despite missing the last 2-3 weeks. Is this simply a case of Boston/ESPN hype being so overwhelming that nobody can be objective about him? Because he's a left fielder and not RF? I can't imagine any GM not taking Benintendi back for any of those players listed...so do we over rely on FWAR or are we too easily seduced by the East Coast hype machine? Another example, Ian Happ and Byron Buxton have almost the same value, 1 vs. 0.9. Is Happ a 2.5 guy (not bad, but far from an All Star)...(talking ROY with Bellinger in same league, really?) another example of PR and Cubs' popularity? And yet nobody in baseball would trade Happ for Buxton and live to tell about it. The Benintendi thing is probably because he's playing LF. As I recall, most scouts thought/think his defense is CF caliber, which would probably make his fWAR much higher.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Unlikely, but Rick Hahn grew up a Cubs fan. I think he would be more than happy to trade with them. Of course the great Theo would be at the other end. Isn't there a concern about being swindled? Not if they give up whay would be required, including the Cubs tax.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Tatis #22 The White Sox have trouble developing that type of player, anyway.
  14. Hansen Top 50! Glad to see him getting some recognition. Is Dunning anywhere to be found?
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) Honestly, I think at this point that the best case scenario for Collins is he becomes comparable to Mike Napoli. Napoli's also another guy that is incredibly patient at the plate, who sees a ton of pitches per plate appearance. Napoli was the comp he got on draft day. Hopefully he can be that with better defense and a longer career behind the plate. Napoli was an All-Star and one of the best offensive catchers in the league for the better part of a decade. If the White Sox get that out of Collins, or maybe even slightly better, it's a win.
  16. Mendick should get a shot at AA. It's not like Birmingham has any productive hitters blocking him.
  17. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 04:17 AM) I firmly believe our future rotation breaks this way in no order. Giolito, Rodon, Kopech, Guerrero, Hansen with Burdi, Lopez, Fulmer & Dunning forming the back end of the pen. Dunning has been the best of the bunch so far, I think he's the most likely to stick as a starter out of all of the White Sox prospects.
  18. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) Dane Dunning pitching another gem. 5 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB. Hopefully he and Hansen both keep it up and become TOR starters together.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:33 PM) A rookie with first at bat singles and drives in two. Yanks 3-0 Miguel Andujar, someone I'd hoped the White Sox could get as part of a package for Q. With Torres injured and him being called up to the ML roster, that's probably out.
  20. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Also a HBP again, 3 in two days My numbers didn't factor in 3 HBP. Adding that, his OBP is .517 and OPS is .980
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) I love these logical fallacies. I see them all the time on the Bulls RealGM board. Hey, look, one time a player came out of nowhere to be really good so that must mean this guy that also sucks will become just like that one guy that one time! DA does it constantly here. So does Hawk. Possible =/= Will happen, but some here act as though it's impossible, which seems just as logically fallacious, if not moreso, to me.
  22. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Robert 1/2 2B, BB Up to .293 AVG with .954 OPS and OBP near .500. I'd say he's recovered from the slump fairly well.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) As a 22 year old, Carlton Fisk hit .229 with a .763 OPS in AA. 2 years later he was ROY hitting .293 with a .909 OPS. So you're saying it's possible to perform poorly in the minors at 22 and still wind up being a good or even great player? Good to know.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) I won't be complaining about the return in the Frazier trade. I am convinced he's worth one very very low level prospect if that. Nobody wanted Adam Dunn; nobody in their right mind would want Frazier though he is a decent fielder. I would think a team with no good options at the position would take a .750ish OPS with good D.
