Sox "way behind everyone else" Lance Lynn
Middle Buffalo replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m not upset with Lynn. I said, he’s most likely 100% correct. It would have been nice if he seemed prepared to pitch his last few seasons. At this point, I don’t think any player would sign with the Sox if given a viable alternative. There are probably 4 or 5 places where a player might say, “well, at least I’ll be in Chicago.” I’m tired of “rooting” for this team. I have the free MLB app on my phone and tv and can watch the Sox at will, and it’s not easy to force myself to do it. It would be nice if we had a glimmer of hope. Not while JR is at the helm. He’s always had disdain for the fans. -

Lance Lynn - the right handed David Wells. How ‘bout you get yourself in shape before the season? That said, he did have a few great moments and is likely 100% correct to criticize this dogsh*t organization. -
4/2 game, they going to get the game in?

Not gonna lie, 1st place feels real nice. -
I figure this is as good a place as any to post that today marks my 20th anniversary on Soxtalk. I remember accidentally coming across this site (no, I did not mistype Sextalk) when googling the Sox. I had never been a member of any forums, but I clicked on this one early in spring training 2005. After a few days, I joined, and what a season to join. I was hooked immediately. I’ve never posted more than 2-3 times a day and probably average fewer than once a day. Anyway, Soxtalk has been my number 1 source for Sox news and entertainment. I religiously visited this site daily for years. This past winter is probably the only one where I didn’t log in daily when I had the opportunity. I’ll be back daily again during the season. Can’t help it. Anyway, thanks to all the posters who’ve kept me connected to my favorite team since I moved away from Chicago. Thanks especially to the mods who keep it running and help maintain a generally civil atmosphere. There have been some rough patches, but ultimately we’re all here suffering the same sickness - our love of White Sox baseball.

Free MLB.TV Day (for those who have T-Mobile)
Middle Buffalo replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s like a curse to get free access to all the bad baseball we can stomach. At least when he first became owner, JR and Eddie E had the decency to hide many games on pay tv that most couldn’t access. That said, I downloaded it again today. Thanks T-Mobile. -
A Season on the Brink was a great book written in the mid80s at the peak of NCAA basketball. RIP.

Doesn’t seem like a big enough space for a convention, but they did a nice job on the remodel.

The new normal for me as a Sox fan is checking mlbtraderumors.com multiple times a day in the offseason and in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline. Kind of a sad fan existence.

When I look at the money being spent on FA, I’m more and more convinced the Sox will never compete again. We’re destined for constant rebuilds. I don’t see the Sox ever building a sustainable winning team. We’d have to have a billionaire owner who thinks of the team as a toy, not a real estate investment. The only hope is they get lucky every so often with a young roster that puts it all together at one time like they did in 2005.

My earliest memories of the Sox are listening to them on the radio because the Sox went out of their way to make it difficult to watch them on tv. My dad used to have the game on in the garage while he tinkered with things or relaxed in the sun on the weekend. I remember Jimmy & Harry, but only vaguely. I was nine or ten when Harry left. Drysdale & Hawk are the first team that made an impression on me. As mad as some people are about Benetti being let go, I’ve felt that way about Paciorek not returning. Hawk & Wimpy is still my favorite Sox combo.

Sounds like they’re yelling “sell the team!” I assume it’s both fan bases in stereo.

Terrible trade deadline for Getz. I feel sorry for Crochet and Robert getting stuck with the Sox. They deserve an opportunity to play on good teams. I somewhat understand not trading Crochet since his performance value is offset by the likelihood he’ll not be available much near the end of the season due to innings restrictions. Trade partners would have lowballed to Sox. I imagine Robert is trying to figure out how to go back to Cuba.

Fletcher, Peralta and Touki return to Chicago
Middle Buffalo replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure, it was a Draft Kings lottery ticket, but I placed a World Series bet on the Sox before the 2023 season. True story. I didn’t actually think it would happen, but I figured it was worth a few bucks, and, hey, you never know. One season later there’s a very real possibility we’ll lose 120 games. Unbelievable. -
AJ could be a candidate to manage Sox

Don’t forget, Terry Bevington was a catcher, too. -
7-28 Gamethread: Mariners at Sox (1:10pm)
Middle Buffalo replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2024 Season in Review
Yep. If this happens, I just become a baseball fan. I won’t care about any team in particular. I’ll watch the playoffs and maybe take in an occasional spring training game, but I won’t have to waste time caring about a team that’s never cared about me as a fan. -
Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Middle Buffalo replied to Paulie4Pres's topic in Pale Hose Talk
54 games remain. If the Sox play .500 ball the rest of the way, they lose 108 games. It’s almost too hard to wrap my head around their ineptitude, but I’ve had the misfortune of watching parts of too many games this year. So, I’m comfortable saying they stink. -
And what, good sir, are the Sox good at?

Evergreen thread.

The Condor seems familiar, but still not great. I feel like Conductor is a typo for Condor. I doubt anyone would call home either.
-
MLB lists Sale’s nickname as “The Conductor.” I don’t think I’ve ever heard that. Edward Scissorhands would be more appropriate.

Agree. If our record was reversed 48-16, I don’t think anyone would have a problem with SSSU.I Corny - but most/all announcer catchphrases kinda are. Im on record as not having a major issue with this guy, but he is definitely over the top about some pretty inane stuff.. I was watching the AKC Agility Challenge this morning, and if the Sox gig doesn’t work out, it would be a perfect landing spot for Schriffen.
