  1. Hub Arkush was on with Boers, and Terry was complimenting the Sox. Hub, a Cubs fan, interjects with a Sox attendance comment, “Even when they were winning....” No matter what the Sox do, there’s always a “yeah, but” attitude from the media that doesn’t exist for other teams because the media is mostly filled with Cubs fans, and even the ones who are Sox fans tend to buy into that narrative. It would be nice to experience some unbridled enthusiasm every once in a while when it comes to the Sox.
  2. That missed bomb to Robinson was a killer. He also had some terrible misses on short passes. Mitch was awful last night. Cohen has been terrible all year. He runs laterally all the time instead of turning upfield. I can’t think of a player who regressed so much from one season to the next. 3rd down defense was bad last night, and it feels like they’ve been giving up 3rd and long conversions all season. They’ve also had too many dumb penalties that have extended drives that eventually ended in scores. Nagy has been bad and stubborn all season. Play calling has sucked.
  3. It’s on the yahoo main page. I’ve never watched a game on it, but I just checked and it was playing - maybe 30 seconds behind the tv feed.
  4. Why not front load a four year contract for Keuchel? Give him four years, overpay him this year and have the money go down at the back end of the contract so it’s not an albatross when they have to re-up with some of their young guys.
  5. I’m not sure if it’s a real thing, but if they end up dealing Cease because they were too cheap to sign a top dollar FA, I think I quit. They should not be trading away their young talent. They should be making offers that FAs can’t afford to refuse.
  6. What Trubisky has done the last few weeks is encouraging - under tremendous scrutiny and outside pressure, too. Moving him around, designed runs, throwing some deep passes (even a miss keeps the defense honest). A lot of the blame for this season has to go to Nagy's play calling. The mix of plays last night was great. it would be nice if Nagy could design a play where Cohen caught the pass with his momentum going upfield rather than to the sidelines. It seems like half his receptions are two steps from the sideline, and he immediately runs or gets pushed out of bounds after he makes the catch.
  7. Aikman is basically openly cheering for the Cowboys.
  8. Does Wims know the difference between someone’s front and their back?
  9. My league site has a "rate the draft" feature. According to it, I had the best draft. I won 4 games. My team was beat up all season. Probably my worst season in 22 years of fantasy. On a positive note, I won our survivor pool and high points the last week of the season, so I almost broke even monetarily.
  10. I emailed one of the local radio shows a few years ago and suggested they have a former GM come on and go through a previous draft detailing the pick, who they really wanted, etc. I’m sure there are plenty of cases where the player the GM wanted was off the board, so they “settled” for a future star. I thought it would be a good and interesting topic. Not sure what would be in it for the former GM, though.
  11. His emphasis on turnovers was great with the Bears and has translated to the Illini. Same old story though - his long term success will depend on what he can do with the offense. Awesome win v. MSU.
  12. Even if there’s not an open WR, can they throw the ball 25+ yards down field a few times a game just to make the D respect the possibility?
  13. I paused the game to proofread an essay for my daughter. I hit play and resumed watching. With two outs in the ninth, I went to turn up the volume, accidentally changed the channel, and when I went back to the game, they were interviewing Scherzer. I missed the last out.
  14. On the 100 year anniversary of the Black Sox, I’m a little skeptical of this “injury.”
  15. I just looked up Greinke’s contract. It has $62.5M deferred that Houston is paying in addition to around $25M for the next two years. That would not be a good deal for the Sox. in any event, I think Cole is a pipe dream.
  16. I highly doubt the Sox will make an offer to Cole. I think it’s way more likely they sign one or two guys from the next tier, and that would be my preference. A “small market team” like the Sox can’t absorb the hit if Cole doesn’t work out. I wonder if the Astros will make any attempt to sign Cole with the idea of trading Greinke. If they do, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Sox make a play for Greinke.
  17. I like seeing sad Nolan Ryan. Go Nats.
  18. Sox are still looking for a left hand hitting, middle of the order right fielder. Would be nice to have Harper.
  19. I just looked up Altuve on Wikipedia: "He is one bad dude, not to be trifled with. As well as the owner of the New York Yankees" Not well written, but funny. How did the Sox miss out on a guy from Venezuela in 2007?
  20. I was returning from a road trip today, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised at how bad some people drive. But, man is it frustrating when you are on a two lane highway, and you have to go into the oncoming lane to pass the car in front of you. On more than one occasion, I was behind someone who, as soon as my opportunity to go around them came, would speed up. So, they'd be going 62 in a 65 zone, I get behind them, and as soon as I'd get my window of opportunity to get around them, they'd speed up to 68. I was behind this one car for miles. This guy perfected the random speed up/slow down/speed up and ping ponging from the left side of the lane to the right and back again. I swear bad drivers added 30-40 minutes to my 450 mile trip.
  21. The origin of Dahl's distaste for disco was being fired by a station that switched formats from rock to disco. Like all things Dahl, it was simply about money. He was fired, so he lashed out. He spent the better part of forty years doing this on Chicago stations. If it makes him money, he likes it. As soon as the money stops, he lashes out at it.
  22. Yep. The same fan base that cries when the Sox fans root against them will be pulling hard for the Nationals. But, Cubs, so it’s ok.
  23. This is how I feel, too. If last off-season had produced either of Harper or Machado, and the young core showed what it did this season, I could almost see a top pitcher signing with the Sox. Without that building block, I don’t see Cole signing with the Sox. I don’t see the Sox signing the elite guys at this point, so I’m hoping for two of the pitchers not named Cole or Strasburg and a RF.
  24. I know I'm not supposed to say it as a Bears fan, but I've always liked Favre.
