Mean Gene first came into my consciousness in the mid-80s, so he was in his early 40s. I don't know any 42 year old who looks like 1984 Gene Okerland. Anyway, Mean Gene was one of the people who separated WWF from its competitors. He was a great foil to his wrestling counterparts in interviews. I don't really follow wrestling anymore, but I doubt whoever they have doing his job is doing anything but a pale comparison to Mean Gene. My best friend growing up loved Super Dave. I only had basic cable, so the Super Dave show wasn't really on my radar. I knew of Super Dave from Letterman or talking to Brandmeier on the radio show. He was a great guest. I've heard him on a few podcasts and other late night shows, too. I'd recommend trying to find his appearances. He was a little like Norm MacDonald or Bill Murray as a guest. You never knew what he'd say, but it would likely be weird and funny. Both will be missed.

ND always looks so slow against the top teams. Nothing they do offensively works against fast defenses. I've been an ND fan my whole life, but I'm not even disappointed. Brian Kelly seems like such a jerk, I have a hard time wishing him success. Of course, not many coaches are easy to root for. It would be nice to see someone other than Alabama and Clemson in the final, though. -
This is one that I'll be listening to selected guests. I listened to the Will Ferrell & Bill Burr episodes. I assume Conan will be going on other podcasts as well to publicize this. So, I'll do that search, too.

I checked in to see if there was any movement on the Machado/Harper front and saw 107 members and 737 guests on the site. Instant adrenaline rush. I'm hoping for Harper because I think he's the bigger star and brings a little national relevance to the team, but I will not be disappointed if they "settle" for Machado. He's probably the better fit/need. I will be disappointed if they come away with neither. And I think either one along with some smart supporting moves puts them in the playoff hunt immediately.

I don't know.

Saw a foreign film (The Guilty) yesterday that was really good. Worth checking out if you can do subtitles.https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-guilty-2018

The USPS machines detect powders (ricin). I'm not sure if they detect pipe bombs. Also, it's unclear if these were delivered by the post office. -
2018 World Series - Red Sox v. Dodgers
Middle Buffalo replied to Middle Buffalo's topic in The Diamond Club
Pretty good example of what is both great and bad about the playoffs in tonight's game. Every pitch counts. If the catcher's mitt moves at all, it's a ball. Both Kershaw and Sale threw a bunch of pitches that looked good but were called balls. With analytics, players are more patient. The strike zone is tiny. So, the games take forever - especially in the playoffs. I went to bed in the 7th. The game was already well over 3 hours long. -
Should be a good Series, though I'm not sure I really care who wins. Probably leaning Red Sox. I'm really just hoping Sale wins his games.

I agree. Well done, but there is no triumphant moment. Even the moon landing, which was an iffy proposition, just sort of happened in the movie. The suspenseful scenes had no moment where you exhaled - no payoff. That said, it's amazing that our space program was sending people to the space in aluminum cans with a roll of duct tape and twine in case of emergency. That is, if we actually ever did go to space...

By the smallest of margins, I held on to win this week and take highest points for the week (small $$$ bonus). Here's what stinks about that. I have Sony Michel, and he was questionable with his status uncertain until 90 minutes before game time. I wasn't going to be around for the Sunday night game, so I got nervous. I looked for who was available, and Alfred Morris was, so I picked him up. According to a few sites I searched, he was likely to get the bulk of carries Monday night with Breida possibly sitting out. Well, it turns out Morris didn't carry the ball at all, and Brenda played and looked pretty good. I won by half a point, but I had to sweat it out.

I think he'd be a good fit for the Sox. I don't think they'd hire him, though.

Montana was 17-29 in the game, and it appears he played the whole game. He played 15/16 games that season. 49ers lost to the Giants in the Wild Card game in 1985. -

https://www.footballdb.com/games/boxscore.html?gid=1985101304 1985 Bears played the 49ers with Montana at QB. Bears won 26-10. I'm pretty sure that was Fridge's debut as a blocking back, too. -

Chris Conte just made another team's highlight film again. Not sorry he's not running around aimlessly for the Bears anymore. Also, not sure how the stiff arm he was on the receiving end of isn't a "hands to the face" penalty. -
I heard this on the radio today: The Diamondbacks were in 1st place on April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1, August 1, and September 1. They were eliminated from the playoffs yesterday. i feel like I've been there a couple of times as a Sox fan, but that is a brutal ending to a promising season.

Does Baez' "World's Best Tagger" ability translate to the other side of 2B? Asking for all baseball fans. I'd hate to lose that.

I had a team a few years ago that finished the season in 2nd place in total overall points (maybe 10 points behind the points leader). His record: 11-2 My record: 5-8 It seemed like I either had the highest points every week or played the guy who did. I didn't make the playoffs, but my team dominated in total points every week during the playoffs, too. It was my big money league, too. Very frustrating.

Yeah, I don't really care about #1, either. Just an observation. #2 interests me because quite a few players have filed lawsuits against the league, and I don't think they are all concussion related, so it's interesting that the league doesn't have a more uniform safety policy. Not that knee pads would necessarily protect against knee injuries... #3 - thanks for the info. I figured it had something to do with the time left in the half/game, but I was never able to pin it down. -

Three things: 1) When did the untucked shirt become a thing? I remember seeing it last year, but I'm surprised the league allows it since they're crazy about the uniforms. 2) How can a league that is constantly embroiled in player safety have players basically wearing bike shorts? So many dbs, rbs, and wrs don't wear thigh pads and/or knee pads. Some of the pants don't even cover their knees. 3) What is the stop the clock rule when a player goes out of bounds? Sometimes a guy goes out and the clock stops. Other times it doesn't. -

Yeah, I agree. I've had all three in the past. I had Gurley last year and he was great. Ive had Johnson a few times (including last year). Injuries aside, I don't think there was a wrong pick. They all have some question marks. Bell has a lot of drama surrounding his walk year. Johnson has a questionable offense. And Gurley has the possible regression of a Rams team that had everything go right last year.
