  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 12:13 AM) Wouldn't salary, or at least a salary range, mostly dictate the "financial success" equation? He's going to use average salaries for the occupation listed. Asking people to provide their actual salaries might be a little invasive.
  2. Thanks. Might as well give mine for the record. 1) 27 2) 340 3) Injury Compensation Specialist
  3. My 8th grader is doing a science fair project. He needs the following info for his data collection: 1) Your high school rank 2) Number of students in your graduating class 3) Job title you have held that paid (or would have paid if you changed jobs for whatever reason) the highest salary. Just the title - DO NOT PROVIDE SALARY INFO. He's testing to see if there is a correlation between HS rank and future financial success.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) I was driving in the car today and Rush had some good takes.... Thanks for the update. Those are some pretty hot takes.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 6, 2017 -> 05:22 AM) The ACA, as designed, was a pipe dream, but when you have nothing else to argue just say "GOP", point and giggle like a 12 year old and you win. That's how every other discussion on this site ends. But when you have nothing else to argue just say "liberals", point and giggle like a 12 year old and you win. 6. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) Why does it seem like everybody here is pro-Dodgers? Why would you ever pull for the Dodgers? They're basically the California Cubs. I'm pulling for Houston. I pretty much always root for the team that hasnt won (with one notable exception). Dodgers fans (and LA fans) have had enough sporting success.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 28, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Parkins was on McNeil's podcast recently and was really good. He was pretty transparent about his time at 670 so far. He talked about his rough times at the beginning because people there disagreed with him getting the gig. He's been excellent so far in my opinion. There's something about the swearing on podcasts that throws me off a little when the host or guests are radio guys. It seems so unnatural because they have to filter it out on radio. It seems like they force it on podcasts. Parkins is did quite a bit of swearing. I did like his honesty about the culture of Chicago radio, though. Bruce Wolf was good with McNeil. He was pretty brutal (and correct imo) in assessing Bernstein.
  8. My ideal postseason happened last night. Now I can watch baseball again.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) They're still a force but changes have to be made. They won't win much with a rotation of Quintana/Hendricks/Lester/Montgomery/Tseng. I don't know that they'll be able to replace Arrieta/revamp the bullpen just by trading Schwarber, either, given his lack of trade value. They may need to trade someone like Happ or Russell. I've heard multiple media types (I know Bruce Levine was one) suggest that they might need to let Schwarber go for someone like Archer. I really hope nobody bails the Cubs out and gives up a front line starter for him. I think Schwarber would be a really nice AL player, but he's not worth a #1 or #2 starter at this point. If I'm the GM of a team, I'd insist on winning any trade with the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, etc. - any of the big money teams that can outspend 80% of the other teams. The Sox did a pretty good job of this with their trades this year.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) Who exactly is preventing people from saying Merry Christmas? Big holiday.
  11. Two things I can always count on when I click on the comments below any article I read online: 1) No matter the subject, race will immediately be injected into the conversation; 2) Someone will type "your" stupid, a moron, an idiot, etc. Gotta love the internet.
  12. I know Sale has an unlikeable quality, but I really don't understand why Sox fans are rooting against him. He was great here. He tended to run out of gas, but I don't think it's lack of effort or preparation. It could be that he's tired. More likely that he gets too hyped up. He's pitched one game and wasn't good. Clemens, Maddox, Glavine - all 300 game winners who struggled in the post season. Barry Bonds was bad in the playoffs. There's a sample size issue here. I'd love to see Sale dominate his next start. But, I would like to see the BoSox lose the game in extra innings.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 8, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) IPhone just stopped charging on me. Would plug in the cord, just wouldn't pick up the charge unless I really played with the cord, and then it would go out right away. Figured I needed to make a trip to the Apple Store tomorrow. Before I did that, stuck a small paper clip into the charging hole of the phone, dug it around for a bit, ended up pulling out a fairly large piece of lint that had gotten lodged in there. Phone charges fine now, ha. Same thing happens with my belly button.
  14. I didn't get the memo this year. Are Sox fans still obligated to root for the Cubs?
  15. QUOTE (gosoxtim8 @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) watch the cubs fan we going to win so waht here the idea you just the ither team hope they can win morons the you shouldn't think about winning as you should think about winning the series No doubt. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  16. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) will always associate Learning to Fly with the Bulls what a legend R.I.P. That's the song I heard, and I immediately thought of the Bulls.
  17. This is crazy. I was driving yesterday and heard a Petty song. I started thinking about this thread and had the idea of starting a thread which would be in advance of a celebrity death. The idea being to pay tribute to them before they die, rather than the usual response to their death. I was going to start it with Tom Petty. He spans my memories from late grammar school through my early 20s. Some great music. Unique voice and sound. Then, I thought it was a little morbid. There are more obvious names that people would name, but I thought Petty was a good one because he flies a little under the radar. I'm seriously bummed seeing that he died.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 05:26 AM) WHy is it so hard for us to keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill people? The Constitution.
  19. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) I've heard mixed reviews. I don't podcast, but maybe I should start... I need my Mac fix. For me, the worst part is the first segment of every show. It's basically Mac reading something he wrote. I'm not sure if it's his delivery or the subject material, but it is a really awkward reading. Very stiff. When he interviews people - old friends like North, Jurko and Boers - it's way looser and pretty entertaining. I could do without the music stuff because it's Mac at his most pretentious. Which is saying something. A good example is one of the early shows he was talking about Neil Peart from Rush. He makes sure to inform the audience that his last name is pronounced "Peer-t." Not "Purt" as is almost always said. Literally, the next time he says it, he pronounces it Purt. Oh well, I've been a fan of Mac since the early Heavy Fuel Crew days, and it's nice to hear him here. It's not great, but for an out of towner, it's a bite sized piece of Chicago sports radio that's worth checking out.
  20. My 2nd Generation iPod Nano finally died. I've had it since shortly after it was released (I think I got it in '06 or '07). It didn't hold much (4GB), but it was a great device for a long time. I can't even begin to estimate how many miles I walked and ran or how many hours I played songs and podcasts on the thing, but I definitely got plenty of return on my investment.
  21. A fumble and two INTs - one a pick 6. At least he has good body language.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 08:56 PM) Thursday night football sucks the most Thursday night football blows. It's almost always a bad game. MNF isn't much better in terms of game quality, either. For me, though, the worst part of the Thursday games is managing my confidence pools and fantasy team. I don't like that I have to think about this stuff as early as Tuesday. It's non-stop, and gambling/fantasy is one of the things that makes the NFL so popular. The Thursday games are making the NFL season miserable for me. I'm about ready to quit both picks and fantasy pools. And that, combined with the Bears generally sucking, will make the NFL pretty much irrelevant for me. Pretty cool Lawrence Taylor insight from Bill Belichick https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bill-belichick...-143206500.html
  23. 20 in a row for the Indians. Amazing. Yet, all I care about is their inability to win 1 in a row last fall.
  24. Rollie Massimino - 82 Hard to believe he was only 50 when he coached Villanova to the title in 1985.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) IMO, your post describes a complete ass kicking, just like the assessment you claim to disagree with. Mayweather dictated the fight exactly how he wanted it to go and never once was in danger. McGregor seemed to do better than people thought, but that's only because Floyd let him. Mayweather, with 50 undefeated professional fights, took ten rounds to beat an amateur boxer. I don't even think he would say he kicked McGregor's ass.
