  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) Well as everyone in the world expected that was a complete ass kicking. Not a single competitive round after the first 3 when it didn't even seem like Mayweather was trying. I'm not sure I agree with this assessment of the fight. Mayweather had a plan. He wanted to take the fight deep. Why? Because he didn't think he could beat McGregor with an early knockout. I'm sure if he thought he could come out and overpower McGregor and knock him out in 2 or 3 rounds, he would have. There was never a doubt that Mayweather would win on points if it went the distance. That's pretty much any fight he fights. The first 3 rounds were all McGregor. He landed some decent shots, and he didn't expose himself to shots from Mayweather. Of course, Mayweather wasn't really throwing much. Part of that is strategy. Let the less conditioned guy punch himself out. Part of that was McGregor's awkward style. He fought from an MMA distance - meaning the spacing between the two was the distance he is used to having so he can deliver strikes with his legs. In rounds 4-6, Mayweather closed the distance and started moving forward. McGregor didn't really have an effective plan for this - not sure if he really expected it as Mayweather hasn't fought that way in any recent fights. I'm not sure McGregor's corner really helped him here either. He should have been working the body more and trying to land some uppercuts because Mayweather kept ducking his head. This is where McGregor's muscle memory really hurt him. He kept resorting to hammer punches and locking up with Mayweather when he turned his back rather than pounding the body. Mayweather won rounds 4-6, but he didn't exactly dominate them. The tide turned in rounds 7 and 8. McGregor didn't have much on his punches anymore, and Mayweather could see that McGregor was tiring. In the 9th round, it became obvious to me that the fight wasn't going the distance, as McGregor was in constant retreat. I'm not sure why they didn't tell him to go to the ropes. Even with his back to them, I'm not sure Mayweather could have knocked him out, and McGregor would have saved some energy. I'm surprised McGregor did as well as he did. This is in large part to Mayweather making the decision to engage in the fight. I'm sure he could have fought the defensive fight and won 12 rounds to zero had he wanted. But, he wanted the knockout, and as someone who was disappointed by the Canelo and Pacquiao fights, I'm glad he did that.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 06:51 AM) This episode was so bad. I absolutely love this show, but I can't get over how bad that episode was. 1) First of all, the plan to capture a wight was dumb from the start 2) So it took the group a couple days to find the wights, correct? But then Gendry ran back to the wall in what, hours? 3) Random wight walking party just out scouting? Then they kill the white walker and the wights day except, conveniently, just one of them? 4) How convenient was that raised elevation rock in the middle of that frozen lake? 5) So the wights just surrounded the group for what, 2-3 days? Or was it just hours? But then when they had rocks thrown at them (with ridiculously incredible aim) they decided "oh s*** son, no they're asking for it, ATTACK!" 6) Fastest raven ever. That raven made record time from the wall to dragonstone 7) Props to the dragons for their speed in getting to the North as well 8) Random baddies pop up out of the water just at the right time only when Tormund happens to be right at the edge. 9) Jon fell into water in freezing temperatures. That should kill you in minutes, if not hours. But thankfully to the fastest horse ever he makes it back to the wall. Phew. 10) Oh, hi Benjen! Oh, bye Benjen! Came here to post this myself. Seven seasons in, and I still have trouble remembering people's names. The only thing I'll add is that I don't understand why Benjen didn't hop on the horse and ride away with Jon. Does he turn into a WW now? If so, will he (and th dragon) still have a bit of good in them and turn on the Night King at a key point and save Jon/Dany?
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Anyone ever listen to Dan Hampton and actually understand what he's saying? "When you are the lead horse the scenery never changes" On what the Bears need to do today: "get out of the gate" On the secondary last year: "Hideous!" On Kevin White: "he needs to watch every game Larry Fitzgerald has played" On the young guys playing better than the old guys in week 1: "when young pups bite you know they'll be good dogs" I don't think Tanimal is exactly a wordsmith, but other than the first one, it all makes sense to me.
  4. Dig deep enough, and the list of people who are truly worthy of a statue or monument would be pretty short.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Is it just me or does Joe Maddon b**** about as often as Ozzie Guillen used to? Joe Maddon is Pete Carroll. Great coach. Nobody knows it more than him.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) It wasn't meant to be a dig. I just meant there is a group of posters who lean very far to the left who also happen to be vocal on this board. I wasn't trying to be offensive when I grouped them all together as "hardcore liberals", although I can see why someone might interpret it that way. No problem. I appreciate both you and StrangeSox conceding a little bit. I think I'm done arguing this point. The good news is that Trump will most assuredly do something dumb soon enough to redirect our attention.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) StrangeSox accused everyone who voted for Trump to be racist or racist enablers and implied they were bad people and yet not one of the hardcore liberals on this board called him out for it. In fact, most of them came in and defended his ridiculous statement. I would identify as a Democrat for sure - not sure what qualifies one as a hardcore liberal. I guess I would resist that label because I think it is loaded and meant to be derogatory. I called out StrangeSox for his ridiculous idea that everyone who voted for Trump is a racist.
  8. StrangeSox, It seems like you are presenting two different arguments. On one hand, you are implying that the GOP is unequivocally racist. On the other, you're saying racism a significant problem. I think most people arguing with the first statement wouldn't necessarily disagree with the second. But, it's not exclusive to the GOP. Racism is alive and well on both sides. Don't kid yourself.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) It doesn't mean you completely support everything he's done, but it means you're okay with it and he never crossed a personal line that meant he went too far to lose your support. By this rationale, all of the people who voted for Obama are "okay with" (whatever that means) every decision he made and every stance he took on issues. Good and bad. They are "okay with" 100% of what Obama did/said because Obama did/said it. That's idiotic.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) The United States Dpt of Justice brought a civil rights violation action against Donald Trump personally because he refused to permit black people to rent apartments in his buildings. The Dpt of Justice said all he needed to do was agree to rent to minorities. He refused. Instead he spent a fortune in legal fees fighting to keep minorities out of his buildings. On the eve of trial he caved and signed the Consent Decree. Donald J. Trump is a racist. In the late 80s, Donald Trump argued that the death penalty should be re-instated for the 'Central Park 5', and when the accused were later found not guilty through DNA evidence, he refused to admit he was wrong and still thought they were guilty. Donald J. Trump is a racist. When the first African American President was elected, Donald J. Trump attacked the legitimacy of the President's citizenship with full knowledge that his attack was 100% based upon a lie. Donald J. Trump is a racist. During a television interview during his campaign he was asked about David Duke and the KKK and he outright refused to denounce him or his views (he finally renounced him weeks later after being forced to do so because of the political firestorm). Donald J. Trump is a racist. Then he refused to denounce the murder of a Muslim on a train in Seattle. Donald J. Trump is a racist. Then he refused to denounce the bombing of a mosque last week. Donald J. Trump is a racist. And this weekend he refused to denounce the views of Nazis. Donald J. Trump is a racist. But "nice" people voted for him. None of this means that everyone who voted for Trump is racist, or that everyone who voted for someone other than Trump is not racist. Sadly, many people vote for the R or D and don't give much thought to anything else. Sure, Trump is attractive to the neo-Nazi types, and he has strong support in that group of voters. However, that doesn't mean everyone who voted for Trump is, therefore, a neo-Nazi.
  11. As a bit of a Cutler apologist, I think he's a better QB than he'll ever be credited, but he was still a massive disappointment. I'd much rather see him stick in the broadcast booth than try to capture some glory that likely will never come. I don't believe the body language stuff with him because I think that became an angle, and every time he shrugged or frowned it became a story. However, he did not appear to be a great leader or someone who loved playing the game. He seems to be breaking down some after years of getting pounded as Bears QB. I think the smart move for him is to walk away. He's a smart guy. He has a pretty good sense of humor from what I heard on his show with Waddle and Slivy. Maybe he'll find success in the booth.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) I SURVIVED THE GREAT SOXTALK BLACKOUT OF '17! Might be time to exchange phone numbers and emails and start a group chat. I was getting the shakes.
  13. I'm not super well versed on ACA because I have decent insurance through my job (though it increasingly costs more and more every year). But other than wanting to eradicate everything Obama did, I don't get the sentiment to repeal it. Even if it's bad, and by some accounts that I read and respect, it is. I would think that it should be viewed just like any new business in its infancy. It's going to lose money. It will need to be adjusted. Shouldn't the elected officials concentrate on improving what is in place? Obviously, some parts of it must work. How about tweaking it instead of blowing it up without anything to replace it?
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) I have read a few tweets that hint around that Trump was involved in the Jeffrey Epstein stuff. Which would be very, very bad Yep. I was aware of the story, but then it went away because it wasn't properly filed. I guess it was refiled recently. Not good, but fake news, Hillary, blah blah blah.
  15. I was reading the Priebus stuff and I stumbled on this story of the rape allegation against Trump that was made last year by an underage girl being filed again. I hadn't seen it anywhere. Story was updated June 30 on Huffpost. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/10619944
  16. I haven't heard much Benetti, but, man, is he dumb. Ross said he likes how quiet the Cubs catcher is behind the plate. Benetti asked if he meant quiet vocally or in his mannerisms.
  17. Benetti is doing a national broadcast. Sutcliffe is announcing the game for the Cubs. Ross, though more comfortable with the Cubs, is doing a pretty good job a being unbiased.
  18. So the pitch to Sanchez wasn't outside, but the pitch to Schwarber was? Ok, Sut.
  19. Norm Macdonald's podcast is back. If you're a fan, it's classic Norm. Previous episodes are available as well. First episode of the new season is Norm & David Letterman. I haven't listened yet, but I'm sure it's great.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Huh on the bolded? This study is saying "110 of 111". So that quote is saying there are examples outside this study where it isn't present, and yet you just said it can be as high as 92% elsewhere? Your statements against this disagree with each other. Probably tested 111 brains of players suspected to have had CTE and confirmed 110 did, in fact. It doesn't seem to be a random sampling or an indication that they tested all of the brains of deceased ex-players. Did they test brains of people not suspected to have CTE?
  21. Shields clearly has little left as a starter. Does he have any ability to close? As a guy with a big game reputation, it seems that he'd be able to handle the pressure. Does he have the stuff to close? I think I'd give it a try.
  22. Not sure if anyone watched Battle of the Network "Stars," but Tom Arnold was high on something during the first episode.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) It's like a bad lifetime movie. I don't know. At least a Lifetime movie might let me see what Jennie Garth or Alyssa Milano look like now. This administration only give me Scott Baio.
  24. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) It's like a WR with 4.3 speed than can't run a route or catch a football. You just have to ignore everything but the film and say bad. So, Devin Hester.
  25. Too early to know, but I gave it a 7 based on potential we've brought back in trades. I hope we're not holding out for too much for some of our other pieces. Much of my final grade would hinge on the performance of the Boston prospects we got. If they bust or are average, I'll hate that we gave up Sale - a best pitcher in franchise history contender.
