QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 3, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Appreciate the advice. We do think we've improved, but there are miles of improvements to be made. We're both type A hard ass idiots, so the talking over each other thing is something that will be hard, but also something we absolutely have to work on. Again, we love hearing this kind of stuff because we want you guys to have a good experience listening for an hour twice a week and the better it is for you, the better it is for us on our end. Thanks for listening! In the coming weeks we will start having more away team guests on, as well as more front office people. Zack Burdi is gonna come on as well once he gets called up. Lot of good stuff lined up I finally listened to the BA interview (and one other). He was a really good guest. It really seems like BA's immaturity cost him a career. Sounds like he didn't prepare or listen very well. That said, at least he owned it in this interview. I still think he deserved more of a chance with the Sox, but his lack of preparation probably was a factor in him not playing more. The one thing I'd suggest is less swearing from the hosts. I'm not offended by it, but it's not really necessary. It makes for a less polished sounding podcast. It's good to have a Chicago sports-centric podcast. Keep it up.

For the sake of this argument, let's say Addison Russell cheated one time and never again and got someone pregnant. He apologized, and they agreed to work on their relationship and stay together. Let's also say he lost his temper and hit his wife one time in front of his kids and never again. He apologized, and they agreed to work on their relationship and stay together. Which event would weigh more heavily on his wife's mind over the next 18 years? My guess is that the constant reminder that your spouse is a cheater is pretty hard to move on from, especially when there is an out of wedlock child and your spouse travels regularly as part of his job. i agree that constant physical abuse is probably more damaging, but I don't know that the other situation should be dismissed because it really depends on the circumstances and individuals involved. In either case, my hope is that the abused person finds the strength to get away from the bad situation. Also, since it's just an allegation, it's probably not fair to speculate about the abuse in regard to Addison Russell.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) Maybe, but violence is significantly more damaging. The mental effects of being physically harmed and fearing physical harm from your spouse is one of the worst traumas we can face. Adultery, again, is NOT on the same level of deplorability as domestic violence. This is the real world. We are adults. He did mention health risks. So, if you are particularly reckless (or really unlucky), you could expose your partner to countless diseases. You could also end up with an child out of wedlock. That's a lifetime reminder of your infidelity. Obviously physical spousal abuse and cheating are much different, but emotional scars are still scars.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) Rabbit, you are a guy who consistently states that he has no political affiliation. I am genuinely curious to hear how you feel about Comey's testimony as it applies to Donald Trump. Agreed. It would be interesting and informative to hear how someone who is independent viewed the testimony. I don't think raBBit addressed il08's request above.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) The major factual errors, to put it nicely, coupled with essentially accusing Comey of committing perjury is pretty striking. Facts don't matter. Sadly, I'm not even kidding. It's out there, and the Fox News types will run with it and keep repeating it. But, decidedly not "fake news."

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) I'm sure many of you (not saying you unless you confirm it) can't see the hypocrisy in the Comey situation. Before election: Comey EVIL for what he did to Hillary; after election "that Comey seems like a great guy." Or, possibly Comey learned from the HC situation that it's in everyone's best interests that he doesn't comment publicly about an ongoing investigation. He was doing his job to reopen the investigation, but announcing it may have overstepped his duties, and, in fact, his actions re: HC might have impacted the election, whether they were politically motivated or not. That experience may have informed Comey's response and actions when Trump asked Comey to announce that Trump was not being investigated. Comey explained that it is not a good idea - basically because the investigation was still ongoing. It can be both things, Greg. Remember, leaks were good when they were about HC (Trump). Bad when about Trump (Trump). Do you see the hypocrisy?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) That's a great post, great great take. All I'm hearing first was what a terrible person Comey is for ruining the election for Hillary. Bad bad Comey. Now all I'm hearing is how great Comey is for having the power to take down evil Trump. Good good Comey. John McCain checks in....

Miscounted the days I'm on vacation. Came up a day short on socks. Have to get a second day out of a pair.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Trump wasnt under investigation at the time of the questions. This also doesn't mean that the FBI had concluded that Trump was not involved or that Trump had no knowledge of Russian interference with the election. It was/is an ongoing investigation, and until Trump is a suspect, it is fair to say he is not under investigation. That goes for anyone (satellites) associated with the investigation.
-
I can't believe we in AZ continue to elect McCain. I'm not sure he understands what is being investigated.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Oh my god. The bullpen celebrations. Clowns. The whole "look at me" vibe with the Cubs is from the top down - Theo to Maddon to the players.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) I have her talk dirty to me of course. He didn't quite spell it out, but I'm pretty sure that's the feature Tex is looking to utilize more/better.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) A little before my time but his radio interviews over a decade ago were great He was great on The Score as the baseball "expert." Unlike many of the guys these shows put on now, Jimmy actually watched both Sox and Cubs games and had real thoughts about what he saw. He didn't just bs for 20 minutes. A true original. RIP.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 30, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) Yeah he's off base on this one... Republican lawmakers, yes. Republicans in general? Nah. But the Republicans who fall into that category are just voting against their self-interest in the name of god, guns and gays in the vast majority of instances. I agree that many people vote against what we would perceive to be their best interests, but I think that's only if we consider people's financial best interests to be the sole basis of casting a vote. I know plenty of union members who are staunch Republicans. Doesn't make much sense to me since the Republican platform is pretty much anti-union, but they have their reasons, I'm sure. If they value guns and believe Republican religious values represent them best, and they cast their votes for the Republican. Who am I to question their reasons? Do we question rich people like Bill Gates, Oprah, Warren Buffet or the "liberals" in Hollywood who vote against their personal best financial interests? I don't ever see that (FYI - I'm not even certain Gates & Buffet vote Democratic, but I know they have talked about paying higher taxes).

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 30, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) It wasn't a beanball, he hit him in the hip. Next time don't stand and admire your homerun. Pitchers don't like that. What ye sow so shall ye reap. So, if a pitcher strikes a batter out in a big game with the bases loaded and pumps his arm vigorously in celebration, it would be ok for the hitter to charge the mound because his feelings were hurt? Edit - didn't notice the post above when I posted.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) The problem with this is the opposite corollary....most Republicans (not ALL) have never walked in the shoes of those poor people whose programs they are gutting, have no first-hand experience with Meals on Wheels, etc. I would like to see the data that confirms this because I'm certain many Republicans have received and do receive help from the government. There are plenty of poor Republicans.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) I do not think that is a fight Bryce Harper was going to win. Samardzija got knocked down by his own guy right before he was going to tackle Harper. I would have liked to see that collision. Beanballs are dumb. I don't blame a batter for charging the mound, but it's not too bright. Easy way to get injured, and not a good look for Harper throwing the helmet. He's lucky that it seemed to slip out of his hand.

Frank Deford - 78. He was a great writer and had some really good features on various sports programs on tv.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 28, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Agreed with Rabbit....this is a good thread, except for the weird s*** about Caulfield's foreign concubines and Reddy's shirtless picture threats. WTF? I guess my question is the same as a few others have asked...what do you want? I agree, there are advantages to being white. There are advantages to being male. But what the f*** is your point? Caulfield's posts are so long I generally have a hard time following them. He seems to argue both sides of every point. I guess my personal experience, raBBit's experience, and many other people's experiences are just tough luck or aberrations.. I still get to be white, so I win. It seems that we are supposed to believe America is terrible because white people are by and large in positions of power. But, that doesn't mean all white people benefit. Every other country has the same problems as the United States. There are different classes. Some people have privilege. Some are downtrodden. Race isn't always the factor. What's the explanation for class systems in countries that have homogenous populations? Is whitey to blame for different classes of people in Africa, Asia, Latin America,...?
-
I had a very similar experience to raBBit. Both of my parents are immigrants. Similarly, they were one of the last families to move out of their parish when the neighborhood changed and their church was closed. That's when they decide to move. The only privilege I had was a private Catholic education because that was something my parents valued, but we had few material things. Pretty much the only toys we had were balls - many which we found at parks. My dad worked as a union building engineer. Solid, but unspectacular income. My mom worked a few shifts as a waitress, earning very little outside of a little time away from her six kids. They had a mortgage, tuition, and no savings. We were all above average to excellent students. We all earned degrees from four year universities. None of us received financial aid. My best friend, who went to high school with me and who was my college roommate, has a background which is basically the same as mine - with the exception of having 3 kids in his family, being of Mexican descent, and he growing up in an arguably better neighborhood. His grades were lower than mine. His ACT was much lower. Yet, he went to U of I for free. In fact, he got tuition, room and board + additional money for living expenses. I had loans and work study. I understand the white privilege argument in an historical sense, but there are plenty of white individuals and communities that do not benefit simply from the color of their skin. Maybe society doesn't automatically judge them in a negative way based solely on the color of their skin as frequently happens with minorities, but large numbers of white people are just as underserved as their minority counterparts. Real "white privilege" only belongs to a select few.

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
Middle Buffalo replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
I'd bet a good percentage of the straight Catholics who attend ND participate in sex outside of wedlock & for reasons other than for procreation. Care to enlighten the board on Catholicism's stance of extramarital sex, Greg? Why would these good Catholics go to ND if they engage in this perverse behavior? -

Sadly, the leaders of the Catholic religion haven't always been paragons of virtue. Not sure what it says in "the rules" about pedophilia, but, for the record, I'm opposed to it. -
It's kind of funny to see the national love he's getting now that he's a Red Sox. It's not as if he hasn't dominated before.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 19, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) Nothing but great tunes on the Singles soundtrack. Man, does that take me back. Haven't heard Mother Love Bone or Mudhoney in a while. I had to look it up since its been a while since I heard it. "Breath" is my favorite song on the album. It's one of those songs that I can hear over and over.

I was in college during the early days of grunge, so this hits pretty hard. I remember just being stunned when I heard that Kurt Cobain died. I wasn't a huge Soundgarden fan, but Cornell definitely had one of the great rock voices of all time. "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is probably my favorite song that he sang. I just pulled it up on YouTube, and it stills holds up as a great vocal. Cool lyrics, too. Music is one of the things I find that can instantly transport me to another time. Sometimes I hear a song, and i know what it felt like to hear that song when I was in high school or college or on a road trip with friends. Condolences to all the fans that grew up with Chris Cornell as their background music.
