  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) While something like 62% of Americans are invested in the stock market.... This is largely due to the tax consequences of not putting money into IRAs or retirement plans. Of course, I'm sure it's ok when the government essentially forces people to invest money into the stock market or be penalized with a higher reportable income at tax time.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) It is a loss of freedom. Period. It is just as easy for the government to socialize pretty much anything because "it is for the public good". It is an absolutely terrible reason for anything when it comes to the power of the federal government. What about public schools? Should all schools from K-12 be tuition based, with only those who can afford it able to go?
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) This is worth the click... it's obvious his feet are royal f***ed up https://instagram.com/p/BSJkXGrFwrR/ That video is embarrassing.
  4. This administration has already been reprimanded for endorsing individual companies & attacking others (Ivanka brands, Nordstrom....) How is Trump's constant endorsement of Fox vs. other media outlets any different?
  5. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Jerry Krause has passed Doesn't get enough credit for building a six time champ around MJ.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Started listening to Bill Burr everyday at work...soooo funny. Burr is great, but I kind of tired of his solo podcast. He's always good as a guest. Not sure if they're available anywhere (pretty sure I listened on YouTube), but there are some really funny Opie & Anthony shows with Burr & Patrice O'Neal. Patrice O'Neal was an all time ball buster. I listened to several "My Dad Wrote a Porno." Pretty funny. It's not top of the rotation for me, but I'll check back in when I need some pod.
  7. I'm usually irritated when I'm in traffic and it slows down to a complete crawl because someone on the other side of the highway has a flat tire. I think, why are people slowing down to look at that. That said, I'm thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to "rubber neck" at this car accident of a President the American people elected. This administration can't get out of its own way.
  8. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) McNeil posts there on occasion, and he had an interesting observation about the new generation of sports talk hosts. Mac feels they think their purpose is to educate rather than entertain. That's pretty good. I never thought of that, but it's how I feel. Even worse are the people you come across who parrot all the "wisdom" they heard on Sports radio.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) Just let the Oklahoma State House start working with ICE, VOICE and DHS. TULSA, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma lawmaker who once likened Islam to cancer required Muslims to answer several written questions — including, "Do you Still beat your wife?" — before agreeing to meet with them. This is how you're supposed to ask this question.
  10. My daughter became a vegan a year ago, so this year I'm giving up meat. I'll basically be a vegan, but I'm allowing myself milk for cereal (I'll try the almond milk, but not sure I'll like it). I'm also not going to check labels for eggs in things like bread. I won't be eating sweets, either. So far, it hasn't been difficult. I didn't get ashes. I usually do, but I had a conflict with the mass time. I'm not super religious, either. I go to church, but I'm pretty much agnostic.
  11. So what happened between Cutler and Marshall? They were BFFs.
  12. I was at the game today. I bought 3 tickets on Seat Geek and only spent $12. One of the perks of being a Sox fan is no competition. I paid more for parking.? I don't think you can draw much of a conclusion from a spring game. It's barely baseball. It was nice to see some aggressive base running, and most of the young guys had some playing time.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 11:24 PM) I killed all my posts since they were so offensive. I'll shut up about Trump since it causes so much consternation. Keep posting your opinions. There's nothing offensive about your optimism. I doubt you'd be as optimistic if HC had given the EXACT speech Trump just gave, but like any other post in this (or any) thread, if people don't agree, they can respond or ignore. Don't let them bully you out of here. It would be an affront to our First Lady's anti-bullying platform.
  14. Why is it that so many tv shows and sports on tv are next to impossible to hear? It's like the background noise is always louder than the dialogue and announcers. I have nice flat screens and sound systems, but too often I can't hear the show I'm watching. I think I was happier with my 900lb 32" magnavox. Didn't look great, but at least I wasn't constantly turning to whoever I'm watching with and saying, "what did he say?"
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Bannon complaining about Breitbart being unfair, what? I'm choosing to read this in my Stone Cold Steve Austin voice.
  16. If Adele's music was the best music of 2016, it was a bad year for music. I don't hate Adele, either, but I don't think I made it through "Hello" one time.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) As far as your story, I see it as reigning example of how a lack of competition brings a horrible service. That being said, the DMV is an awful, awful place. I've been to the DMV in Arizona four or five times in the last year (I moved, kid got permit, took test, got license, etc). People working there were all pleasant and efficient. It was never fast, but four or five people taking care of forty people (with various levels of intelligence and ability to properly fill out forms and follow instructions), I don't know that it would be much better if there was competition. In fact, the more we downsize some government services, the worse service is going to get. I don't see how the DMV is really any different than a line at an airport, the grocery store, the bank, a fast food restaurant at lunchtime, or a line at the doctors office. Part of the problem is that people have to expect to wait. If you're rude or frustrated when you get to the counter, expect a less than friendly reception. If you're a jerk. They might go slower. Government worker or private sector employee - they're all just people. I don't really see a lot of hustle from customer service people anywhere I go.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Completely random, but one of my friends is Oppenheimer's great-niece. She sounds fund.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 07:38 AM) They are too spineless to oppose the party. The threat of losing their support and jobs is too much for them to support what's right. And that's where we are with our government. If any good comes out of Trump, hopefully it's politicians standing up for what they think is right, regardless of party politics. I think the idea that all Republicans believe ABC and all Democrats believe XYZ is ridiculous. It's possible for a Democrat to be fiscally conservative or for a Republican to be in favor of "Obamacare." They're just afraid to say it. What we have now is politicians who vote everything according to the party line. Often, that's not best for the people they serve. And they are supposed to be voting with the best interests of their constituents in mind. Trump is a disaster, but maybe he's doing all a favor by getting people interested and involved in politics.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) He alluded to it in the interview on the field with Erin Andrews...he said something like "At times we were just going with schoolyard stuff out there" or something to that effect. They showed the huddle before the last play, and Rodgers was talking to one of the receivers and using his arm to illustrate the route. I'm a Bears fan, but I have always had a hard time rooting against both Favre and Rodgers. I was hoping KC would win so I'd have a team to pull for (something about the Falcons I've never liked), but I guess I have to root for the Falcons from this point.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) Going into election day, I thought Trump winning was impossible. Now I honestly think that only Obama could have beat him. That's exactly how I feel.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) Biden would have won in a landslide over The Donald Nobody was beating Trump this year. Trump would have done the same thing to Biden, Sanders, Warren, etc that he did to Hillary and all the Republicans he beat. He would have made it about personal attacks. Normal politicians don't know how to respond to that. Trump won the nomination of his party and the presidency without offering real, substantive plans for his presidency. The voters didn't care. They don't care that since the election, he has already backed away from and changed many of the plans he did run on. It was the perfect strorm. It should be an interesting few years.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 05:17 AM) Anja Taylor Joy became a rising star in The Witch, but nobody other than the critics really loved it. Fences was a pretty darned powerful little picture. Denzel and Viola Davis deserve all the accolades they're receiving. Lots of baseball references in there as well (takes place in 1957-1965ish Pittsburgh). Davis was good in Fences, but Denzel totally over acted.
  24. I'm half way through the fourth hour, and I would have been happy to have North, Jiggets & McNeil up there for the whole show. All of that was like a flash back to transitions from twenty years ago. The Murphy stuff was a mixture of funny and undignified. I think I could have done without it (though I always thought Murph was a tool). The most poignant thing so far was Goff. He was great, and his tribute to TB was so heartfelt. Just finished. Not at all surprising that Bernstein made it about himself. If I produced the show, I would have started with Bernstein, assorted guests in the middle, with the Mosters individually, then the Monsters together with the Heavy Fuel Crew, then finished with McNeil and Boers.
