  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 06:19 AM) As a white male who makes decent coin, I personally really have nothing to fear. And Vice News Tonight yesterday covered the election results. They covered a woman in Ohio who "couldn't stand to vote for either candidate". She just loves Obama and Obamacare saved her when she had a child 1 year earlier. Without Obamacare, she'd be nowhere. The point being, she saw no reason to vote for what actually mattered to her because she was so uneducated. What part of increased minimum wage and healthcare made these people feel like they were being ignored? I also saw a fantastic article about Google and Facebook's algorithms being a huge reason why the election swung to Trump. Facebook and Google feed you what you WANT to see in your newsfeed and not-so-organic results by understanding what you click on and what interests you. Interesting link. I'm amazed by people who don't vote for what is best for them. I know several people who have kids with pretty serious health conditions that have bought into the anti-Obama care stuff. And then there are the people whose whole basis for voting is one issue - guns or abortion stand out. Two issues that have had very little movement for years and won't again.
  2. Astros are in the market for a 1b/dh type. I'd offer them Abreu for some of their prospects. They have 4 or 5 of the top 100.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Ventura You're kind of all over the place in these threads, but from what I can gather, Jesse Ventura is not really your ideal candidate when it comes to issues. http://www.ontheissues.org/Jesse_Ventura.htm
  4. The Sox havent been able to evaluate or develop positional players. I'm not sure why we'd want to trade established front line pitching for a bunch of prospects and unproven players from another team and trust our minor league development team to make them major league players.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 5, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) I don't know why some don't consider a third option ... a write in candidate or Johnson or that other guy who is running. Given two horrendous choices, I go for a write in. "...Johnson or that other guy...." Yep, another compelling and well thought out post by Greg. Put me down for "that other guy."
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 05:28 AM) Started listening to "Accused". Another crime pod about an unsolved murder in 78 I'll check this out. I just finished "In the Dark." It was so well done - much more satisfying than Serial. Norm Macdonald's podcast is back. He's so offbeat that's it's always a fun listen
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) I am considering all four of these options. I had a very similar situation with a neighbor. My neighbor worked nights, so he had the run of our cul d sac when everyone was at work during the day. He was constantly messing with my stuff. He hacked the sh&& out of a bush of mine that grew a little over the property line. He would take my garbage can and move it way out into the middle of the cul d sac. He parked right on top of my driveway. He stole some of my UPS deliveries. My mistake - I confronted him for dicking around with my bush one day. After that he was relentless. It was terrible. I'm not sure what kind of crazy I triggered, but I seriously regret ever talking to him. I'm certain he was a sociopath. I read a bunch of books about it, and he fit the description perfectly. We eventually got cameras and that drove him crazy. He couldn't handle being filmed. I have great video of him sneaking around to avoid detection, shining things at my cameras, and trespassing. Eventually, we had so much stuff that we took him to court after serving him with an injunction against harassment. You don't want it to get there, though, because he sounds like my neighbor. He won't stop, and as an ex-cop, he believes he's above the law. You won't win a pissing contest with him. If the parking thing is the only issue, so be it. Find somewhere else to park if he's parked in front. If there's more, get cameras, but be prepared to have to review them. It sucks. We had to do it daily, and whenever we thought he was calming down and maybe we could stop reviewing, he'd spike back up. We had to do it daily for three years. Finally, this summer we moved. DON'T engage. Sociopaths live for it.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 05:55 AM) Except Frazier and Anderson weren't particularly high OBP guys... Well, I'd keep Frazier because he's a 3B, and it's not easy to find a good 3B. I'd give Anderson time to develop. But, point taken.
  9. I agree with your idea to build around the starting pitching. Watching the playoffs, I'm convinced that they are not that far away from a playoff appearance. They just need to add guys who can get on base consistently. It seems like 10 years of all or nothing teams. On the current roster of everyday players, I'd hold on to Anderson, Frazier, and probably Eaton and listen to offers for everyone else. Build the minor league talent pool with smaller trades for teams' 5-10 ranked prospects at the trade deadline if the season isn't going well. The important thing is to be aggressive at that time and dump guys like Jones and Robertson and Cabrera that teams want for their playoff push. The Duke to STL trade is a good example. They took a flyer on a mid level prospect. We'll have to see how it turns out. Sale for a team's top 4 or 5 prospects sounds great if they turn into Arizona, Baez, Contreras, etc, but that's no guarantee. I'd rather acquire talent and do a better job of developing it.
  10. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Oct 28, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) Exactly! I agonized endlessly at an intellectual level, finally settling on (a) not actively rooting against the Cubs, and (b) focusing on the joy that the many Cubs fan relatives and friends in my life would receive if the previously unthinkable should occur (after all, we won that Sox vs Cubs bragging right race in 2005). But it took one pitch, one shot of a Cubs fan whooping it up, to remind me that intellectual analysis means nothing when you're talking "fandom." I can't stand the Cubs, their overall fan-base, and the thought of them winning makes me ill at a visceral level. It really does. Go Tribe, Go. I think this is the conflict most Sox fans have. It's not going to be the end of the world for me if they win. I'd be happy for my friends and family (but not for anyone else's). And, I really don't want them to win.
  11. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 29, 2016 -> 05:33 AM) Still hard to believe that the White Sox had a better non-divisional record (46-40) than the Indians (45-41) this year. Cleveland simply dominated within the division while the White Sox got beat up by the top 3 teams in the division. I honestly think the Sox would have a real chance in a seven game series against the Giants, Dodgers, or Indians.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 28, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) Why are people paying hundreds of dollars to get into a bar? Wouldn't it be much better to throw a party at home with family and friends? Not sure if this will make sense, but I'll try. So much of being a Cubs fan is about being a Cubs fan. In a way, the team itself is irrelevant. It's about Wrigley Field, the 7th inning stretch that Harry Caray invented on the north side, famous fan boys, Wrigleyville bars, etc. That's what makes their fans such d-bags. When they go to an away park, all they care about is how many more Cubs fans are there than for the home team. This isn't meant to be the usual "they don't care about the score" argument either. I just feel like they are so caught up in the idea that they are Cubs fans that they have to gather in large numbers just to make a statement. Watch - the big story IF they win will be how many more fans are at the parade and how the Sox parade pales in comparison. The fact is, the Sox did it first. And the Sox did it better.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) There are so many rare earth metals and other recyclables in there that recycling centers are now paying to get old PCs. You can either pull the hard drives or put a drill hole through them. Thanks for the replies Y2Hh, StrangeSox, Rock & S2k5. You confirmed what I was thinking. I just looked, and I have 4 to get rid of.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) The Cub fans are just looking for any reason to complain about him because he is the Cardinals broadcaster. He, and media as a whole, have been particularly favorable towards to Cubs during both of their last two playoff runs. As a Sox fan who is not happy when the Cubs win, I feel like he's somewhat biased against the Cubs.
  15. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 09:53 PM) I am going to hear s*** all day about it and I want to be prepared. I suggest that you just congratulate them if the Cubs win. "Hey, congratulations. I remember how it felt for me." Any other kind of engagement will just give them fuel to keep talking.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) You are right. The Dodgers really looked like a flawed ballclub. You know, everybody besides the Cubs this postseason has looked like a pretty ordinary roster. Maybe the Sox just need a good manager or some magic to contend. Dodgers and Giants had nothing special on the mound or in the field. Conor Gillaspie? The stiffs the Dodgers were sending to the plate and pitching? I wish we had a special manager. We don't. Nationals might have given them a run, but they had some key injuries. And, I agree. The Sox roster is very close to the Dodgers and Giants.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Only part of the rebuild they got lucky on is Arrieta and Hendricks. Russell - still not sure what the A's were thinking
  18. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 07:32 PM) I LOVE good baseball. Many people I love like the Cubs. I want the cubs to win for them and I want the White Sox to follow them and rebuild their organization right. You don't like it, tough. I will continue to call you out for your petulance. You know, some team wins the Series every year. The Sox could just model their team after one of them - say the Giants or Royals. Not really sure why you pretend to not be rooting hard for the Cubs. I don't think anyone on here would really care if you didn't act like you weren't.
  19. I haven't watched tonight. Tuning in now. Let's see if I can turn this thing around.
  20. Maybe it's a plus for Cleveland that Arrieta starts 2 (possibly 3) games?
  21. I recently moved, and I have several old PCs that I want to get rid of. How do I safely get rid of them? Is it good enough to just remove the hard drives and drop the rest off at Best Buy or something? I want to get rid of them without any of my info on them.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) After watching the debate it dawned on me. Everybody knows by now Trump is an idiot and an ill-equipped PERSON to lead our country. Hearing Hillary's lies about helping the middle class (sure she will; the lady who gets 650,000 for a couple speeches) it dawned on me she is just as wretched a person as Trump. Finally, Greg lets it slip how he feels about Hillary.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) He just said "bigly" twice. And is mad about Obama....deporting millions...in the shadows? Pretty sure he says "Big League." And , is Obama weak or strong against immigrants? I'm confused. She really got him riled up with the Putin stuff.
  24. HC started out weak with the example of the young girl. Answer got stronger as she went on.
