  1. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Obligatory "Pitching wins are meaningless" post. Because pitching wins are meaningless. Yet, the best starting pitchers tend to win many games. Coincidence?
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) Curtain call for a 2 run home run in the 7th inning in July. Nice. I thought this series is meaningless to Cubs fans...at least, that's what I always hear. Curtain call in the 7th inning against a .500 team in July?
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) Whenever Shields gets pulled (hope its after one more out) he deserves a standing O. While not a high K performance, this is one of the better "grab your nuts and go do it" performances of the year. Ok - who said that? I have to start using it.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:56 PM) Sale is actually right. Robin had to have Sale's back on this. What if Sale would have hurt his arm wearing that s*** jersey? It would have come out that he hated the jersey and didn't want to wear it and somebody woulda been in deep trouble. Don't laugh. He hated the jersey. He might have gotten hurt that night and been able to blame whomever wanted them to wear the collars. Then Sale should have refused to play in that uniform Saturday and left or been scratched. If he cut up his own uniform to accomplish not playing and to make a point, no problem. The "flu" excuse probably would have worked. He had no right to destroy the rest of the uniforms.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 05:17 PM) When Hester caught that punt, I could see the whole field from my seats and saw the wide open path for him to get the end zone. I immediately knew he was gonna score a TD. Not sure if it's unique to the Cardinals' stadium, but I had the exact experience from a similar seat on a Patrick Peterson punt return a few years ago. He received the punt, took one step, and I could just see the lane open up for a long TD return. That Bears/Cards game ranks for me with the Illinois/Arizona NCAA tourney game in terms of games that I would/could/should have stopped watching, but didn't. Totally improbable comeback, and for the fish out of water Bears/Illini fan in Arizona - totally satisfying.
  6. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) Wins for the Sox don't matter anymore. Another stupid Robin move. Wins matter for the manager. Ultimately, that is how he's judged.
  7. If Sale is upset with the '76 uniforms being a PR and marketing ploy, how is that any different than wearing the '83 uniforms?
  8. I really don't want Sale to be traded. To me, he's pretty much untouchable. However, his behavior at times is pretty embarrassing. It's hard enough being a Sox fan without having to defend the dumb things players/management find themselves in the news for doing. There's hardly ever a positive, feel-good Sox story. As for the uniforms, I like the '76 throwbacks. Kind of tired of the '83s.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 05:16 AM) Certainly not saying you are, and I agree with you Lobrano also used the "Well i have a bunch of information you dont have" excuse without explaining any of it. I thought that it was a terrible interview for everyone involved So, we're good? - Marc Maron? You heard it exactly like I did then, and that's where Bernstein ultimately failed in the interview. Lubrano alluded to having more info, but Bernstein never simply said, "so, what info do you have that we don't?" That would have changed my opinion of the whole interview. But, half of a conversation is listening, and guys like Bernstein don't listen, they are just waiting to talk.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Bernstein was actually doing really well, and then brought up Lobranos divorce and then everything spiraled out of control. I sympathize with nobody in that interview, Lobrano was victim shaming the entire time, calling them liars without coming out and saying it. He kept repeating that the victims were all using uncorroborated and unsubstantiated accounts. f*** that guy To reiterate, I'm not on Lobrano's side at all. It's terrible that Penn State looked the other way in this sex scandal. However, it's really disingenuous for Bernstein to have a guy on who is involved with the university and ask him to speak freely. Bernstein was insisting that Lobrano give his opinion. What does his opinion matter? He's not going to do it. Bernstein was grandstanding. When Lobrano pressed back and asked for specifics about the newspaper article Bernstein was quoting, and Bernstein didn't have more info, Bernstein was quick to dismiss the line of questioning.
  11. Bernstein had Anthony Lubrano (not sure of his exact affiliation, but he's a Penn State "Paterno-Phile") on 7/12. It's really a good example of what I don't like about Bernstein. He basically ambushes Lubrano and won't let him speak because he's not in full lock step with Bernstein. I'm not defending Lubrano's stance - I really don't know anything about him. However, if a guest has the courtesy to call, he should at least be allowed to speak. They go back and forth for a little while. Bernstein makes a few personal attacks. Yet, Lubrano, at the end, offers to meet with Bernstein when Lubrano comes to Chicago. Bernstein accepted, but my guess is that he won't actually meet with Lubrano.
  12. That Darryl & Doc "30 for 30" looks great. They are two of the most talented guys from my childhood. Sad that they didn't become what they should have.
  13. At some point in the future, one of these kids will take one off the noggin.
  14. Looked like that kid robbed him of a HR. I went back and looked at it. The guy reached over the wall for it.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) I played basketball in high school with a guy who clawed at the air when he ran. Almost like he was swimming. He was very slow, I guess he thought using his arms and hands might increase his speed. I used to play pickup with a guy who was around 6'9", and he ran with his arms tucked to his sides and his hands up near his armpits. We called him T-Rex.
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) And sometimes not. My in laws just celebrated 65 years of marriage. They credit their faith in keeping that marriage alive. Does your father in law play cards and eat pizza?
  17. I don't trust people who don't swing their arms at all when they walk. It just looks weird.
  18. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:57 AM) By the letter of the rule, Westbrook traveled, but I really don't wanna hear whining about it from Golden State, they blew a 16-point lead and put themselves in the situation where they had to hope Westbrook f***ed up. It's hilarious that there's even a controversy about traveling in the NBA. Yes, Westbrook traveled and dragged his pivot foot on that play. And he and everyone else does it the entire game. The traveling and dragging/moving/changing pivot foot makes the NBA borderline unwatchable for me. I don't even understand how you can play organized basketball your whole life and feel (in a physical-muscle memory way) like it's ok to travel. It feels so odd to me when I play to take an extra step. And pickling up or changing my pivot foot - out of the question.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2016 -> 06:08 AM) With The Score turning Cubs, ESPN Chicago is about the only non-Cubs connected station left. I listen to The Score interviews podcast, and at least they seem to make an effort to bring on some Sox guests. I'm sure the main body of the shows is mostly Cubs talk, though. I used to listen to ESPN 1000, and they didn't even try. They had Doug Padilla following the Sox, and Jesse Rogers following the Cubs. Rogers had to be on ten times more frequently than Padilla. Now they don't have anyone following the Sox at all. Keep in mind, I live out of town, so I have to go somewhere for Chicago-centric sports news, and SoxTalk is my first stop.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Nice job Strasberg. For that injury history, that is insanity. Nats will regret this contract. They should be saving every dime for Harper right now. He'll be worth the biggest contract in baseball.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 9, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) I think Harper might get fined or suspended for this, but it's absolutely hilarious. Based on my novice level lip reading ability, it looks like he might be doing a quick homage to Andrew Shaw.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 10, 2016 -> 04:57 AM) I can't believe people still would ever consider using ESPN Chicago as a resource. I'm a bit of a masochist, I guess.
  23. 1st place Sox win in extra innings with a Grand Slam (not a walk-off, I know), and on ESPN Chicago, 18 of the first 21 baseball stories/videos feature the 1st place Cubs - who were rained out. I guess that's a fairly even split.
  24. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 7, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) At a SW side wedding tonight, total CFD/Polish (down by the airport variety... you know... fly in the extended fam from Warsaw) and half the men gathered round the TV watching the Sox. Lotta Sox talk, the buzz is palpable amongst the base. Typical Sox fans. They'd rather watch on tv than go to the game.
  25. Hawk has an eyepatch laying around somewhere. Clean it and give it a whirl.
